diagnosed after bc w/ dysplastic nevi
Following quick on the heals of my bi-lateral for ILC my oncologist wanted me to go to see a skin doctor to have my moles checked as I have many moles that are atypical. My skin doctor removed 4 moles that she was VERY concerned with . Two of them she had to go very deep with. I got the path report back and 3 came back as Compound Nevue with architectural disorder and mild cytologic atypica. One came back as compound nevous, acral type with mild atypia. She said on her part she would monitor me every year to re-check for changes but told me that i needed to get my path report over to my MO asap for her to review. I have read there is a much higher risk of melanoma when you have had breast cancer and also with the dysplactic nevi in large quantity and also if you test positive for the BRCA2 gene. Have any of you had experience with this>

I am so sorry you are dealing with this.
My derm, who I saw regularly for acne and regular skin/body checks told me that 1-1/2 years post dx is critical for monitoring the skin. Not sure if it was a ploy for office visits (I love her and cannot imagine she would do that, plus she has family history of breast cancer). No mention was made that BRCA causes increased risk specifically....
Best to you!

Thanks Wally cat. Its been tough because I was just beginning to feel like i was moving forward and now, two steps back. It is what it is and i will just have to deal with it, but i always get such great comments on here so i thought i would gather information in case i need to make some decisions you know?

I had a melanoma about 15 years before my BC diagnosis. It was small, was removed and seems to have been cured. I have heard about some connection between BC and melanoma, but don't know more than that.

My doctors said something about chemo impacting potentially on moles. Sorry, that's all I know.

Pessa I am glad to heard that you were cured of you skin cancer with no return. I heard that bc and melanoma cause greater risk for each other, still doing research on that. Racy, I read something about that too, but I didn't not have to have chemo due to low oncotype dx score and only a grade two with no node involvement...now I am wondering if I should have just to get out all the "crap" the seems to be hanging out in my body....sigh. Thanks for you responses thus far ladies! Blessing on all of you :-)
