Waiting for results from ex. biopsy. What are the possibilities?

I had my surgery yesterday. BS removed the area of LCIS (3 mm area) and small grape sized area around it.

I also learned the results of my MRI I had a few days before. The other breast is fine, but in the same breast as the LCIS, another mass was noted...I was a bit foggy when she went over it but it was either 3 mm or 6 mm, closer to the surface than the LCIS and in a slightly different area. BS recommending needle-guided biopsy for THAT in a few weeks. I am even more worried now.

SO...I know there are ALOT of answers, but besides "benign", what could my pathologies be around the existing LCIS? Can someone go through the list? Which one is most commonly found near or around the LCIS? I have seen acronyms of DCIS, ADH....is there a "common" finding?

I have to wait 4 days for the pathology. Hate the waiting, but a 2nd area has me concerned even though she prefaced it with "it could be a false positive...etc....".

Thanks - just preparing myself for the possibilities....besides benign, what is the "best" finding? And what is the worst?

The absolute best would be nothing more than either LCIS ,ALH or ADH.All essentially 'benign" for the time being and with luck, forever.Anything more than those 3 elevates you on the BC ladder.

I don't think there really is any "common" finding---LCIS is fairly uncommon itself, so there's really no way to predict. I had a bunch of other "stuff" found during my lumpectomy------apocrine metaplasia, fibrocystic duct dilatation, more microcalcifications, sclerosing adenosis, (and other stuff I can't recall at the moment)---all basically benign stuff; and more LCIS, but fortunately no DCIS or invasive bc. So those are the 2  (DCIS or invasive bc) you don't want to have.

I'm just curious--why didn't they just do a biopsy on the other area while you were already under?

Thanks everyone. Anne, the other area wasn't very close to the surgical area. My BS strongly felt the less surgery/cutting out, the better - she felt an MRI-guided biopsy would be a better alternative. Keep in mind she was reading the MRI results to me when I was in the room before going into the O.R.! So not alot of time to change the plan at that point.

They wouldn't schedule my surgical biopsy until the results of the MRI were in because of exactly what you're going through right now. {{{hugs}}} That's not fair to you.

Anne had a pretty comprehensive list. The only one I would add would be Pleomorphic LCIS (PLCIS). The MRI is known for false positives, so it's likely it's nothing.
