My First Ambien
Well, I did it. Down the hatch. I have had this prescription since...let's see...August 27, according to the bottle, but have been afraid to try them. Tonight's the night. I haven't gotten a good night's sleep in days. I am hoping I will not be sleepwalking or sleepdriving or having conversations with inanimate objects, but I guess you never know til you try, right?
So before it hits me, can anyone tell me some HAPPY ambien stories? Like how you sleep like a baby and wake up refreshed? NO SCARY STORIES please, I already swallowed it, remember?
Thanks!

BlueCowgirl,. I love Ambien! If I take it, I do sleep like a baby and feel refreshed. I am careful not to take it that often, as I am pretty sure it is highly addictive. However, there are times (since my diagnosis 3 years ago) that I have a hard time falling asleep. If I have had a few of those nights in a row, I take an ambien.
I think you will feel great tomorrow morning.
-
YAY Aprilgirl!!! Thank you! I have heard all the horror stories, so good ones are really helpful...thanks!
-
oh, yeah, ambien cr is great, I've been on it since diagnosed, and am feeling I should get off it, but it is delightfully habit forming. You do sleep like a baby and wake up feeling like a new woman. I have never driven my car, leapt off a cruise ship or cooked a three course meal in the middle of the night. I don't even wake up to pee. Not sleeping in days can interefere with your healing.
-
Weesa, I am laughing so hard, I will try to resist jumping off a cruise ship, but I should probably go for a prophylactic pee right now. Thanks!
-
I take it every once in a while--no problems here. I think i changed my car's oil in the middle of the night once....:P just kidding!
It was my neighbor's car.
-
LOL @PuppetLady...I am due for an oil change and it's too dark to sleepwalk to my neighbors, so that's cool with me...Except I will have to sleepdrive somewhere to get the oil and the 3-course meal ingredients to go with it. Anything else I should pick up while I'm "out"?
-
..and I have conversations with inanimate objects all the time...and get paid for it, lol. I'm a puppeteer and have lotsa little "friends". I tried to claim them as dependents on my taxes but my tax guy said no way So I sent Guido, the Italian Muppet, over to uh, straighten him out.
-
No, seriously, I have this theory, you know how every once in a while you hear about somebody just disappearing from a cruise ship and they search the ocean and then give up? Well, I think it is somebody sleepwalking on Ambien. We were on a cruise lately, and even tho I have never stirred out of my bed, I made DH lock the slider to the balcony and pile furniture up in front of it, and swear if he heard me rummaging around in the middle of the night, he would stop me
Well, it's 1am here and my Ambien has just hit me..
-
I am also a fan of Ambien, I only take 1/2 and the next morning, I am a new person. No scary stories other than the time I ran out.... I use it once, occasionally twice, per week. Enjoy your rest.
-
You're killing me here...
You know what would be really convenient? SleepWORKING. I've gotten really behind the last few days what with not sleeping and all...
-
You should be asleep by now - shut out the lights and technology and you will drift off quickly. Good night Blue Cowgirl. As it happens, my nickname is Cowgirl.
-
I generally take mine about a half hour before going to sleep if i wait any longer than an hour it does not seem to work for me. Also I cut my 10mg pills either in half or 1/4
Hope you had or having a good nights sleep
-
I am not stage three, hope you don't mine me butting in. I have never had problems with Ambien. However go to bed right after you take it because it does give you the munchies. I do get a good sleep when I take it,
-
My sister took ambien on a long flight, so she could sleep. She woke up without her underwear on. She does not know where it went, or how that happened! She also would have really crazy dreams when she took ambien, so she is not a fan. I, however, have not noticed anything except a really good nights sleep. Hope you slept well!
-
I love Ambien. I take it so often that I asked for a lower dose (6.25...usually they give you 10 mg), and that still works well for me. No missing underwear stories here (I don't know if that is a good or bad thing
).
-
Good morning ladies...Slept great! I woke up without my underwear on, but that was okay, because it wasn''t on when I got into bed...
Looking forward to the next time I need it - I am comfortable with the idea now. Thanks for the encouragement and the laughs, glad to see lots of other ladies who haven't lost their sense of humor. Apparenly, it's not located in the boobies.
-
BlueCowgirl- late in posting, but just wanted to say I'm glad you had a great rest! I'm with the others that take Ambien regularly and have never had issues (I wish I could wake up and find my bathroom sparkling from an unconscious midnight ramble but no luck). And like Weesa said, getting good rest is so important for us so it's good that this gave you some much needed relief.
-
Huzzah for Ambien! Two good nights' sleep in a row, and looking forward to a third.

Just happened to see this post and was wondering about others' experience with this drug. I've taken it twice-both times I have had a restless night sleep, awakening several times during the night. Am I the only one who seems to get insomnia on it?
I don't usually have a lot of trouble sleeping, but occasionally I'll get into a pattern of being awake from 3-4am, so I have tried Ambien to prevent it.....
Now I take a half a dose of benadryl and it seems to help most of the time.....just wondering if I'm alone in the not sleeping with Ambien!
-
Ah, you have been seduced by the Ambien siren, the somnolent, addictive lure of the little white pill.
No longer do you have to wonder if you will sleep tonight and if so for how long...
I am so tantalized by the airplane story--did the sister ever find her underwear, aprilgirl1--you can pm me if you don't want to hijack this thread--but I want to know more, there's got to be more. Could be the beginning of my new novel.
-
No Weesa, we *all* want to hear the sordid tale of the underwear on the plane. It's my thread, April can hijack if she wants to, hijack if she wants to, hijack if she wants to...you'd hijack too if it happened to you!
-
Calamtykel,
I have heard about people having insomnia with Ambien. I believe that's when Ambien Walrus likes to visit: -
I love my Ambien! I've been taking it almost every night for 2 years. My doctor said it was much more important for me to be able to sleep than o get off the Ambien. My husband says I don't do anything unusually weird during the night, so I guess I'm okay -- and I've even taken it while on a cruise.
I do have vivid dreams, but they aren't bad dreams, just vivid.
-
I didnt want to tell my horror story when you first posted because you had already taken it.
While I was in the hospital they gave me a 10mg ambien I vaguely remember walking down the hall into the nurses station and raiding there fridge. thought it was a dream but in the desk next to my bed was yogurt, tacos and other stuff.(I wonder where the nurses were) Also remmeber talking to all the machines in my room as if they were people and told my husband I was going sking with some cute guys. I was imbarresed at first to tell the nurse and she said oh you are the one who took our food. She said people see little greeen men while taking these. So she gave me a 5mg said she would watch me to make sure i was going to be ok, and I was.
If anyone is having strange dreams then cut your pill in half, it will make a difference. Also I have somina if i wait longer than 40 minutes to an hour to take it, but if i go to sleep within that time frame I sleep well.
April- I laughed outloud on the underwear story LOL!
-
Love my ambien, I have been taking for years. Love the cartoons! I do like the name brand better than the generic. Just took one, good night!
-
no scary stories here....with Ambien I can manage to get if I'm lucky a solid 4 hours sleep!! I trade off between the regular 10mg and the 12.5 CR
-
okay, I am on the phone with my sister, and here are more facts - not only was her underwear off, but she had a different pair of pants on!!!!! I am not kidding. She was in business class, next to a friend. Her friend had also taken an ambien, so did not recall the pants changing event. This is going to be hard to believe, but she claims she took it because Chaka Khan was on the flight, doused in duty free perfume. My sister often gets migraines from perfume, so figured she would knock herself out. This was a flight from LA to NYC. She does live in LA, which may explain some of this, and I promise, it is real.
I have only calm, peaceful events with ambien, at least from what I remember! I love the ambien walrus cartoon!
-
aprilgirl, too funny.
Do you all remember when all the dirt came out on Tiger Woods? He was using ambien and it was mentioned several times, I don't remember details, but something strange.
-
aprilgirl, was your sister wearing Chaka Khan's pants when she woke up?
