    Michelle....

Yep.... Even though it really is an 'immune system in training' I call the little ones, the big ol' germ bombs.... lol

Years ago, when Survivor first started, it was on Thursday nights... the same night that my husband had golf league! It became the night that my kids and I would get take out, bring it home, change into our PJs and watch Survivor while we ate our dinner.... One time they jad ordered a beverage and I had not.... I asked for and had some of my son's drink... All was good until later that night when he was up and sick to his stomach....

I got him through it and hoped I wouldn't catch it, too...

Wound up with the same thing and since then, have made it a rule that, no matter how tempting, to not share any food with the little ones....

ChocoVine update - now it's available at Krogers (not quite up to Safeway's level).  In addition to the original dutch chocolate & red wine, they now have Raspberry & Espresso.  I can vouch for the Raspberry.  We drank over ice but might be better from the fridge.

Walley- That pecan frozen yogurt sounds really good do you make it or buy it?

Ducky- I do my veggies that way too love red peppers cant seem to get enough of them lately i cook those with cauliflower, brocc, asperagus and garlic in the oven so good

Minustwo- We are going out of town next week and hopefully can get the wine where we are going, safeway here does not carry it "(((

Thanks Deb.  I enjoy making people happy with food.  It also gives me a real feeling of satisfaction to be able  to not just feed the poor (some of our "family" at the Center are homeless whose only meal of the day is the one we provide) but to give them food that delights the pallet.  We serve everyone, people of every age and any income.

when i was a chef.. we used to boil / simmer turkey breasts en masse in a large stock pot.. to cut for REAL turkey sandwiches.. the liquid was lightly spiced with lemon, salt.. a bunch of stuff,, garlic,.. the temp should be a slow simmer and it should take maybe 90 minutes.. sometimes less.  This actually produces an awesome turkey - juicy.. you could pass the gravy on the side.. The packaged turkey gravy that comes with the breast is actually pretty good. Do not overcook.

Thanks, apple.  I'm probably more likely to do that slow simmer.  I really love turkey breast.  I'm guessing the simmering liquid would make some good stock!

Michelle- When I do the turkey in the crock pot I just cook it on low all day.  I'll put it in around 9 or so and we'll eat around 6.  I'm going to check the sales fliers and look for a turkey breast this week!

Apple- great idea for the turkey breast.

Chabba- I agree I think it is so wonderful of you the way you are helping out.

Last night was chicken cor don bleu with rice and sauteed zucchini.  It came out really good, I hadn't made it in forever.  Thanks for all the support with my sicky boys.  They slept some last night and seem a little better today.  My older so is still having a hard time breathing, hopefully by tomorrow he'll be doing much better.  The dr said if he wasn't I had to bring him back in.  It's going to be in the 60's today, I wish we could go outside and enjoy it....

There is a Sheppard's Pie in the oven, it should be ready in about 10 minutes.  I love the Delmonte corn with the white kernals.  Almost like a butter and sugar corn.

    Sure:

1 1/2 lbs of ground beef, I like to use 85% because it has more of a flavor

2 cans of your choice of corn, I like to use the yellow and white kernal corn.  Delmonte or Green Giant

Betty Crocker Garlic and Herb instant potatoes or you can mash your own, I work over 9 hours a day so I don't have the time to peel and wait for the potatoes to cook.  Besides my DH loves instant potatoes.

Cook the beef, add herbs like ground rosemary, thyme, what ever you like to throw in to spice up the beef.

Drain the beef and corn. I put the corn in a pan just bring it to a boil.

First I put the beef on the bottom of the cassarole dish, then add the corn the spread the potatoes to cover, dot with butter or marg or olivio.

Bake at 350 for an hour or until potatoes brown slightly.  Makes two meals for us.

ho made chicken noodle soup with farmer noodles (from a sack).  I love chicken noodle soup.

BTW... you could indeed put the turkey breast in a slow cooker i guess.   it doesn't need a lot of water.  FWIW.. we overcooked it, roasted it, deep fried it in emergencies.. it was all good if it survived a dry out.

Laurie, To save a bit of money for the center I made biscuits and rolled them quite thin and cut them inserving size biscuits for the topping.  It worked very well.

    thanks Chabba!

For my shepards pie I do it like Deb- only  I use one can of corn and one can of creamed corn.  I don't bother to heat my corn beforehand either.  I just layer the cooked burger, then the corn topped with potatoes.  I bake mine for about 20-30 minutes at 350.

Tonight was the burger with tomato sauce over zucchini.  I realized as I was cooking it that it is quite similar to O2B's upside down pizza.  I am still putting the upside down pizza on next weeks menu, now to figure out the other 6 nights :P

Michelle- You've been quiet, I hope all is well with your DH gone!

Tonight's dinner was delish!  I was hungry for steak so thawed out a package of 2 ribeyes.  Dh is great at grilling steaks.  We had boiled golden potatoes (only 1 small one for me) with Smart Balance and light sour cream.  Also sliced green tomatoes cooked in a hot oven.  Brushed the slices with EVOO, sprinkled them with salt and pepper.  After about 10 min. took them out and put grated Asiago cheese on them.  Back in the oven for 5 more minutes.

I ate half a steak and got my beef fix.

Tomorrow I'm planning to cook Cuban black beans.

I hate coming up with our menu for the week....so far I have two meals in mind- steak, O2B's upside down pizza....blah.

I used to have a World Market about five minutes from my house.  There are none anywhere near me.

Yesterday after my post-surgery followup, I went to a casino in Providence, RI.  It's quite new, nice and had a huge smoke-free area, which made me very happy.  It's about an hour from Boston and an hour and forty-five minutes from my house.  My only complaint would be a lack of typical slots - like three reel quarter machines.  Thousands of electronic penny machines, I guess they are where it's at in the slot gaming world.  I ate a yummy, juicy Johnny Rockets burger and a diet coke float.  Huge indulgence, I must say!

Laurie - maybe steak tips would satisfy your DH's steak craving...or a nice stirfry with steak and loads of veggies.  That would stretch your steak dollars.  My kids always liked stirfries.  I made them teriyaki style when I used beef.   How are the boys doing?

Michelle- I am glad to hear you are enjoying your "me" time!  The boys are doing better today, last night I was wondering if I was going to have to bring my older son back in, he was still having a really hard time breathing.  But today he seems to be more rambunctious and trying to runaround more and not losing his breath as easy.  So yay!

I got my DH his steak, it was actually priced pretty well so I got him a Nice london broil for under 4 dollars.  We'll have that tonight with salad some sauteed carrots and scalloped potatoes.  It is so nice out, I am sure he'll even enjoy grilling it.

Apple- your sour dough pizza gave me the idea to do calzones one night this week.  I've never done it before but what they hey right?
