Hello-I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced spine and bone pain after being diagnosed? i was diagnosed with DCIS in Jan 2011 and had to have mastectomy because it was widespread and aggressive (com necrosis). I had reconstruction in August and am no longer on Tamoxifen...was on it for 4 months and had to stop due to side effects. My spine feels like I'm 100 and i was diagnosed at age 40! Oncologist ordered mri of spine. Has anyone else felt chronic pain in their spine? Has anyone had dcis spread? Thank you for any advice or comments!

Hi angelfromabove,  your DX is same as mine, but in 2009. After the mastectomy I started tamoxifen but only lasted 11 months on it because of tremendous bone pain. Although it took months, and months, the bone pain has subsided a lot. And, to make sure we weren't dealing with anything else, I had xrays of my hips and thighs, then a full body scan, and I'm happy to say nothing showed up. Plus my docs have me get an MRI of the chest every year - six month split - mammo then mri. So, I hope your story turns out the same way.

Hello J9W and thanks for the response. I am hoping maybe the pain in my spine is still from tamoxifen but i haven't taken it since mid August. My oncologist ordered mri for my spine and i was supposed to have it on Thursday. The insurance company is still reviewing the mri request. Thats great you were able to get mri's. looks like my insurance company is playing doctor. Some of my vertebrae really ache still. I hope i'm clear like you are on the cancer side, i just wont know for certain until i get approval for the mri. thanks

Hi angel, I hope you get approval from insurance company to get mri done. It's hard being in pain and unable to get the answers why. Is your pain getting any better?

    Wishing you good health.

Hi Dragonfly, My oncologist talked to insurance company doctor and now my mri is tuesday. im really glad because my pain is really bad at night. i just have to lay down. I look forward to getting an answer so i can hopefully rule out anything cancerous and maybe get physical therapy or see a chiropractor. My reconstructive surgery was in aug so I don't think its from that. hope all is well for you!!

Angel, it's good to hear you are getting your MRI on Tuesday. Hope you get your results back quickly, and there is no cancer. Then,as you said, you can look at other treatments.

Living in pain is no fun. I hope you get some relief soon. Take care.

    Wishing you good health.

I've had different pains here and there on my body since my Feb. 2011 BMX. I think A LOT of my pain is from the surgeries. Major trauma to tissue and some bodies take longer than others to heal. My NP at my fam doctor said it could be Jan, 11 mo from my diagnosis b4 I feel like my old self. A MRI is good esp for peace of mind. I've had an arm xray b/c I was just sure I had a mets to my humerus! Pain went away day after they told me the x-ray was fine! I'm trying to stretch more and just started Pilates. I find the less stiff I am the better I feel.
