IBC stages....can anyone explain them for me in english??
Hello to all my beautiful cancer warriors....as some of you know my mom was just diagnosed with IBC on Halloween. We begin her treatment next week. She has just finished her PET CT and all the other tests that come in the early stages of being diagnosed. Monday we find out if it has spread and the stage her cancer is in. With that said I am asking for some help in understanding the stages. From IIIB to HER+ ectera. I've tried to look them up and understand what they mean but it is getting me more confused. I do understand that HER+ means the cancer is hormone fed. I also know that stage IV is stage 4 and that the cancer has spread to other organs. Can you help me to understand the other stages? Please any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to know exactly where we stand tomorrow when the doctor tells us what stage we are in with her IBC. Please pray that we caught it early. .I hope you all are having a beautiful Sunday.

(BTW --- HER+ does not mean hormone fed. ER+/PR+ means hormone fed.)

IBC staging starts at at a stage IIIb.
The HER+ relates to the protein on the outside of the cells that are multiplying. There are special medications for that, like Herceptin that bind with that protein to help stop the replication of the cancer cell. It is a biological treatment with very few side effects.
