gettin' my port out!
Hello everyone!
Tomorrow I am getting my port out. I hope it is out forever, but I don't care if its even out for three days. I am very much looking foreword to getting it out. Still not had reconstruction...perhaps next...perhaps not...Hope you are all having a good day today!

It was HUGE for me to get mine out...I felt like my body, and my life, were mine again. I am so happy for you!

Hi Kathleen, I am with you as far as getting that stupid port out. My situation is that they put the port in on the same side as my partial mastectomy and when it was time for my radiation treatments my Dr. told me he can't do radiation on me with my port in on the same side that it has to come out and put in on the other side for the rest of my chemo. Well I went through the roof on this one. you think that the doctor that put it in would know not to do it on the same side as your mastectomy. I had it out and did not have it put in on the other side, I had the rest of my chemo treatment done just with my veins. It was the best thing that happened to me getting that port out. Congratulations! I was SO thankful to have had my port, but so glad to get it out. Had to keep it a little longer because of some complications. Nice to be free of the worry of my kids whacking it. I think it wasn't so easy to get mine out - it was scarred in - but still no big deal. I was dressed and off to work about 10 minutes after I hit the recovery room.

Congratulations! I fought with my chemo doctor about getting my port out when I had to have an operation to remove part of my thyroid. I won! I remember waking up after the operation and feeling for the port. It was gone and I went back to sleep. It was the best decision I made!

I got mine out 3 weeks after chemo was done (had my implant for expander swap and total hysterectomy at the same time). YAY!

Yup, it's out and I am sooo very happy! It never bothered me physically, but mentally, yes.....got a lot of congratulations today. Yes, I know....not really how this works but hearing it was wonderful anyway...Thanks everyone!

Hurray Kathleen! I was glad to be rid of mine too and the onc said as soon as I was done with chemo it could come right out, so that made me feel even better!

I got mine out last Wednesday, five weeks after finishing chemo. It didn't bother me the whole time it was in. It was very small and barely noticeable even when I wore a bathing suit. Getting it out was a bit of a struggle for the surgeon as I built up some scar tissue (she took it out in her office). But it was a "milestone event" for me - a signal that the cancer is gone (I had a clear PET) and I don't need any more chemo.
