How many of you started with just LCIS?

Just dx'd with LCIS in situ last week via needle biopsy. I have an MRI tomorrow, and excisional biopsy next week. I am very worried they will find something more. My surgeon felt NO masses. Two mammo's only showed the calcifications which turned out to be the LCIS. I know I am very, very lucky they found this...that LCIS is often found after the fact, with other cancers, and I guess that is what scares me. I'll get MRI results Monday, few days before surgery.

How many of you started with only LCIS only to find more via mammo or surgery??

I hav ebeen followed closely (mammos and sonograms every 6 months) since they found a fibroadenoma about 3 years ago.  This year calcifications that they had been looking at seemed like something so I had a stereotactic biopsy that showed LCIS and ALH.  It was followed by a lumpectomy that confirmed the LCIS and ALH but also found ADH.  I am scheduled for a follow up mammogram next week to get a new baseline on that breast.  Recently I have felt a lump in that breast about an inch away from where the lumpectomy was done, hoping it is scar tissue.

My situation was identical to yours: calcs on mammo to core biopsy to dx of LCIS. Like you I was very worried there was something worse in there to be found! I had MRI, bilateral excisional biopsies, you name it, I had the test for it, they did not find anything worse than the original dx. I was very lucky and am so grateful. My mom died of this disease so I was a basket case during that time.

tpup-----my LCIS was diagnosed on stereotactic core biopsy 8 years ago, nothing more than more LCIS found during lumpectomy. I've had nothing more found in the last 8 years. I still do high risk surveillance of alternating mammos and MRIs every 6 months, breast exams on the opposite 6 months, took tamoxifen for 5 years and now take evista for further prevention. Stats say something more is found in 15 to 30% of cases on excisional biopsy; but that means that in 70 to 85% of cases nothing more serious is found! so hang onto those numbers, they're in your favor!
