    Robin I can't remember, sorry..but my onc told me not to color my hair until a couple of months after chemo, why, I don't know

    Hi Robin -

    I am on a dose-dense sked - every 2 weeks - and I am shedding like crazy - it started after the 2nd treatment. I know a lady who was also on this schedule and said she hardly lost any hair at all. While I am shedding a lot of hair, a stranger wouldn't think I had bad hair or anything. I have 4 treatments down, 4 to go - I hope I can hold on to what I have. Some say the shed can stop before treatment is done. Good luck and keep us informed on how you are doing. xxx

    I was going to post a similar question. Two and a half weeks after my first infusion I started shedding. I normally shed but not like this. So much is coming out I can't believe I won't lose it all. I'm feeling good otherwise so I'm trying not to stress out about it but I just feel sad. My oncologist's office said not to color hair during chemo.

    I haven't had night sweats so no advice on that.

    Hi gals,

    I started to shed just before my second treatment and I had treatments every three weeks.  I used the Nioxin products and I'm a firm believer that they helped with the shedding.  They make a shampoo and a conditioner.  Unlike many, I did have my hair colored during treatments.  My onc didn't seem to think it was a problem, and I don't think it hurt me in any way, but I would do what your onc tells you to do concerning the coloring.  The gal who colored my hair was very careful to keep it away from the scalp as much as possible. 

    There were times when I was sure that I was going to lose all my hair, but in reality, most people couldn't even tell that I had the shedding.  It's such a big concern for all of us that I think we tend to panic when we first notice it and then when it seems to continue, we really panic.   

    I didn't have the night sweats either so I can't offer any advice on that.

    I followed Ritajean's advice and used the Nioxin products during chemo too.  I did a major shed after my 4th tx and then the shedding seemed to slow down.  I never needed a wig or a head cover though my hair was thinner..... I don't think anyone else could tell.

    Hope all you gals in treatment are doing well and the same goes for all you gals who have finished treatment.

    Thanks Ladies for sharing your experiences!   I will have treatment #3 a week from today. Then I will be half way there!!!  I already purchased the Bosley shampoo and conditioner, so I hope this will help.  So far so good!!

    Haven't been on in a little while but I hope everyone is doing well, both on and off treatments!!  Been out enjoying the weather today with a fun game of golf and plan to do the same tomorrow :)!  Suppose to be a gorgeous weekend here so might have to throw in a corn maze too!!! 

    Wanted to ask for a quick prayer on Nov 1st.  I will unfortunately be having surgery because they have not been successful in shutting down my ovaries, even with the shots.  As all of us know that are ER+, that is not a good thing.  So, I have to have it taken care of.  I'm dreading it and looking forward to it all at the same time.  Just tired of the worries and I'm ready to move on with my life.  Thanks....I've come to think as each of you as FAMILY :)!

    Oh cabmom, you are doing the right thing, even though I know you are dreading the surgery.  Hugs to you.  I will be praying for you.  I had a complete hysterectomy the year that I turned 50 and the recovery period was pretty easy for me.  I am hoping that you have an easy recovery, too.  Hang in there.

    Cabmom - So glad you're doing this!  My gyn refused to remove my ovaries and so I'm feeling insecure.  When I see him next year, I will again request it. 

    My onc is trying to decide what I should be taking for the next 5 years.  When I went to pick up a tamoxifen-type substitute from the pharmacy, it came to $400/month after insurance!  It's really $800/month so it's really not an option for me.  The Patient Advocate at the Cancer Ctr. is negotiating with the pharmaceutical co to see if they can offer some relief.  We'll see.  Guess I'll need to take more aromatase inhibitor after all. 

    Hope everyone is doing well.  My hair is almost back to normal.  I colored it a couple of weeks ago and am getting an appt. with my stylist.  It hasn't been cut since last Feb!

    The weather here has been gorgeous!  I love fall in VA.

    Cabmom: With a young son, you are doing the right thing to do everything you can to be healthy. You are in my thoughts and heart.

    Golfergrandma: I sure do hope that the pharmaceutical will come forward with a financial solution for you.  

    I had my mammo this week---good news--all clear!  They went back to take another picture and I almost had a heart attack waiting for the results.  (they give them immediately at my center).  So I could not believe my good fortune when it turned out to be nothing!!!

    Has anyone ever heard of fareston?  My onc wants me to take it instead of tamoxifen.  I have an appt. next week to discuss it with him.  He also mentioned shots once a month?

    Hi Golfergrandma!  I have heard of fareston on some thread on bc.org.  I remember the woman was taking it instead of tamoxifen, but that is about all I recall.  It sounds like your onc is doing his/her best to come up with a good treatment for you. Let us know what you decide to do (when you decide it).

    Hey everyone....so sorry about not being on to post (Thanks Mandy :) for helping me out)!!  I'm doing very well and feeling better each day.  The surgery went very well and was uneventful other than difficulty coming out of anesthesia (not sure what that was about but it was a little scary)!  Thank you all so much for your prayers.

    Went today for my 6 month appointment with my breast surgeon and all was well.  Mammo was good......YEAH!!!  So happy to get good results!!

    Hey Ladies! I Just finished CMF #4 on monday!  My white cell count was borderline so I had to go back Tues. for a nuelasta shot.  This round not as bad as #3.  Just two more to go and then I can move on to reconstruction.  I can't wait to put all of this in the past!  Hope you all are doing well.

    Yeah, rockytop....you're just moving right through these treatments.  How did you handle the neulasta shot.  I was scared witness when I discovered that I needed one and after all my worry, I was pleasantly surprised when I had no side effects.  I know others are not so fortunate.  You are on the downhill slide now!  Hang in there!  Hugs!

    Hi RitaJean, Thankfully I had no side effects from the shot!  I was scared too after reading all the others who had bad SE's.  But I feel lucky in that regard.  On a scary note, my hair is shedding really bad this time.  I have not experienced heavy shedding until yesterday.  So I am scared to wash or comb my hair.  I hope it will stop soon because I don't know if it can handle 2 more treatments.  Thanks for all the encouragement. :)
