    I do hope you ladies understand that the "scam"  is not Being an affiliate markerter but the scam is what new posted is "signing" up to BE an affiliate marketer......the scam is making so much in commission in having people "click" onto a link...........companies don't need a middle person to infiltrate discussion boards......they can do it directly themselves.........

     what is happening here is some poor breast cancer woman will see new's post and think I can do that and will google that company and she will sign up her email and then they will send her an email stating that if she sends them 29.95 for "information pack" that her account will be refunded if she sends the info pack back in 30 days......of course either she will try and realize too late that it was a scam before she gets her money back or the company hopes that she will forget to send it back in time........they play the numbers.......and then they will have her email and address and probably phone number because a "representative" will contact her to explain how she is going to make so much money.........they have all her personal information and will constantly be trying to "woo" her back.........and then to top it off they will sell her personal information to marketing list companies........

    it is just like signing up to stuff envelopes........except on the world wide web.......

    there will always be people trying to separate you from your money........look at Steve Jobs....he was a master at it.......he could explain why you needed to spend 2500 dollars for a lap top that you can do the same processing with a 1000 dollar lap top......and make you believe that you were smarter for doing so.....

    Shock, those scams are a little different, and have nothing to do with affiliates.  Those are outright scams!

    Bluedahlia thank you. All people had to do was check the url. They could have easily seen that none of us-Althea, evebarry or me--were  trying to make money off your cancers or pay for our cancer treatments. We all posted the same general link.  It's the same link that the mods have now posted on the 'Natural Girls' thread.

    The conference was great BTW.  I was hoping enough of us listened so we could discuss what the speakers had to say.  But, unfortunately "Affiliate Marketing on BCO" is way more important an issue than talking about the many alternative and integrative treatments and other cancer related important topics.     

    The reason why this thread is not on the active topics list is simple. It's an embarrassment to the organization. BCO is afraid new members will be turned off and leave. They're right. I certainly won't be back.

     I would say one of you ladies with a MAC sign up and then let us know if they really want you to be an affiliater or if they want to sell you the information in how to become an affiliater.....

    (we all know you gals with the MACs are smarter so you will be able to tell if you are being scammed or not........

    Shokk, I did PTR for years and went after the scammers with a vengeance.  Even reported them to your Government Agencies and made people aware of them through forum posts (not here).  I know about all the ponzi schemes, HYIPs, affiliate programs, etc.    My memory is certainly not what it used to be, but I don't need to find out.

    Princess, sometimes the referrers are numbers rather than names or the names can be totally different, than the ones registered at the spammed forums.

    I also learned how to make my PC an impenetrable fortress.  I don't need a Mac but it is a superior product.

    I dunno.  The Mac vs PC debate isn't something that's going to affect my cancer treatment or my overall health.  Stuffing envelopes is certainly another silly scam but, again, my point with this thread is regarding scammy affiliate marketing HERE ON BCO.  All the examples I've given in this thread are real affiliate-marketed links I've seen recently here on BCO. 

    To be honest, I don't even care who the affiliate is or whether or not the affiliate link belongs to a BCO poster or not. I believe it's a violation of BCO's no-advertising policy, and of course the mods will make that determination, but I think it's important to point them out when they come up.  There are so many real, fact-based, and legitimate resources for reliable medical information, that there's no reason to promote scammy unreliable resources like those that depend on affiliate marketing.

    Athena - please tell me you're not SURPRISED the Moderators don't want a public discussion of how corporations are USING BREAST CANCER to fund raise?  Don't you want to click, click, click to drive traffic to another websiteLaughing

    I thought this was an important, interesting, and relevant topic to discuss, but the moderators have made it clear to me how they feel about this.  I admit, I'm baffled as to why they'd want to allow commercial links here on BCO.  To me, it's an open invitation to the affiliate spammers of the world.  Spammers go out of their way looking for vulnerable sites like BCO.  To them, this is a high-traffic, dynamic user-generated "quality" content, target-rich environment where they're allowed to set up camp - it's a veritable goldmine for scammers.  I haven't accused anyone here of purposely doing this, but IMHO, it shouldn't be allowed.  Period. 

    However, the mods obviously look at it differently and therefore, I won't bother wasting my time.  There are so many blatant examples here on BCO - again, if you don't believe me, look at some of the links posted.  You'll see share-a-sale links, monetized blogs, cafepress sites, Usana, Neways, JuicePlus, and other MLM advertisements, affiliate spam ad nauseam, etc. Check to see how many "cookies" are placed on your computer.  Feel free to disagree with me or prove me wrong.  Seriously.

    The ironic thing is that the click campaigns for BCO don't really bother me.   I don't support it or agree with all the decisions, but at least it's clearly communicated that it's a fundraising link.  It's not a covert "cloaked link" or a "cookie stuffing" scam, SEO blackhat spam, roach-baiting, or innocent-sounding "informational" post.  Again, as someone said above, I don't mind people making money from my cancer, as long as it's done in an open, honest, and upfront way, and provides a legitimate product, information, or service.

    Why do people have to be dishonest about this? Why can't they just say that if you click on their link they get money. Is it because it is against the rules at BCO? I really don't understand any of this.
