Pain after biopsy

Hello All,

I had my biopsy on October 10th, later to be told it is IDC. It has been three weeks and I am still having pain at the biopsy site! It hasn't been consistently painful. I went to the grocery store today so perhaps that is why it is so sore?

I'm still in the diagnostic stage (scans galore), so we don't have a firm plan yet. Is this normal to have such significant pain after three weeks? Could this mean that the tumor is getting bigger? It hurts so much that I am considering taking heavy duty pain meds (Vicoden)!

Ativan works wonders. It an anti-anxiety drug, but it also relaxes the muscles. I was prescribed 1 mg of Ativan nightly at bedtime. It's helped with lots of issues and I don't wake up feeling all groggy. I do remember my biopsy area being kind of tender for a couple of weeks because it hurt to pick up my little ones.

Thanks for the suggestion, Sundermom. I do have Ativan (they perscribed it when I was diagnosed)!

It looks like your about a year out from your diagnosis. How are you doing?

My first post treatment PET scan showed no evidence of the disease, so for that I'm am thankful. I'm dealing with reconstruction issues right now and those are annoying. I actually had to have my perfect silicone implant removed because my incision decided to spontaneously rip open. So...I have a lovely 36 C on the left and a nothing on the right I think the radiation really took it's toll on the reconstruction and I'm going to need to wait several months before I can try again. Other than that, I feel great, my hair is growing back quickly, I've lost some weight and I'm trying to make the most out of each and every day. Two of my little ones have birthdays in the next couple of weeks - best break out the tissues for Mommy! It's been a long year, but filled with many blessings too We just got back from taking the kids to Disneyworld and I'm pretty sure we all made some memories that we will never forget.

y first biopsy hurt like no body's business!! My boob was bruised for about a month and very sore. This was a stereotactic biopsy and they had to numb me like 3 or 4 times. The doctor was very uncaring and at the end said, "well you should be numb now, I gave you enough to numb a horse!" niiiice.

When I had the second biopsy (MRI guided needle core other breast) it was a whole different ball game. It hurt but not like the first one! and I hardly bruised at all but I did develop an allergic reaction to adhesive tapes (steri strips)

I think doctors technique has a LOT to do with your pain and healing. Needless to say, I will NOT use that other hospital or doctor again for any of my procedures.

The first MRI guided core biopsy I had was horrible and I had a lot of bleeding and bruising, so much so that they didn't place the titanium clip in afterwards. The second one I had was totally different. Very little pain, very little bruising or bleeding. They did put the clip in after that one and I think I could feel that for quite awhile afterwards. I'd turn a certain way and feel burning and pinching. It was worse at night when I would lie on the side of the biopsy. Could it be the clip that's causing your pain? Just a thought. I agree with the poster above. It definitely has a lot to do with the doctor doing the procedure.
