Financial Costs--NOLA

Options

I am scheduled to have a bilateral mascetomy in two weeks at The Breast Center in NOLA. I was aware of my physician costs but was informed by my insurance company that the hospital is also out of network for me.  All of the disposable income I have is going towards paying the doctor.  Any idea on what to do from here?  Any idea on the cost of hospital care for this type of surgery?  I'll be there for 3 nights. Thinkingn of canceling the surgery at this point.  Please help.

Youngster08 - Don't cancel your surgery. Do call the Center. If they authorized you to have surgery at Saint Charles Surgical Hospital then more then likely, they plan to accept whatever your insurance pays for the hospital portion as full payment. I believe that Pam takes care of the hospital expenses. If you call and ask Trisha or Katie who you should speak to about your concerns, thye will point you to the right person! I just came back from my Stage 2 procedure at the center and I can't imagine having this procedure done anywhere else. You will receive incredible care!

    Youngster,

Toomuchs' posting above is right on point! Please call the Center and discuss your financial concerns with them. They are incredibly helpful and willing to work out arrangements to make the procedures as doable as possible. You say you are having mastectomies, are you also doing reconstruction at the same time?

IF you are a survivor you can utilize the Hope Lodge In NOLA at no charge for your before and after surgery stays.

    Hugs,Marcia

Thanks toomuch & Soccermom4force.  I called as soon as I received the call from the insurance company and and anxiously awaiting a call back from Vickie.  I'm going to have to exercize some patience and have faith that God will work it all out for me.  To answer your question Soccermom4force, I am having the DIEP Flap procedure.  I was so excited and highly anticipating the procedure until today.  This has truly dampened my light.  :(  You two put a little bit of spark back into it though.  Thanks...

BTW, anesthesiologists bill separately and I've heard they are sometimes out-of-network.  I'm sure you don't want one more thing to ask about... but FYI.

My insurance won't cover anything at The Center, so I have to use Fairway Surgical Center in Covington. Same doctor, just not 5-Star Hotel surroundings. Nursing care is awesome.

You do need to find out your costs as best you can before going into this.
