So...whats for dinner?
Comments
-
Michelle- I had to laugh at the boobalicious comment- I was happy to hear how well it went for you, hope you are not in pain after the drugs wear off I went to Walmart and got a bra and bought the breast enhancers thanks for the idea. I would love to have a hot fudge sunday right now, that sounds so good. guess i will settle for popcorn and chocolate chips again.
laurie- I love fish but DH doesn;t care for it so i make him somthing different for him sounds like a lot but really isnt to much trouble at all, Have you tried cod? It is pretty mild i blacken it and put lemon juice on it.
Seaside- I would love your recipe for the shrimp creole. I love creole and jambalaya sauces YUM!
Kay- havnt seen you hear for awhile, good to see you posting again
-
Michelle.. your articulation after anesthesia is astounding.
-
Thanks, Apple! I don't know what these guys did differently but I woke up fully alert and was sitting in a chair fifteen minutes later. I was amazed at how "not groggy" I felt! I have to say that the hospital itself is old, rather dreary, and the day surgery area is in serious need of brightening up. They said it's due to be remodeled "next"... But I found the care to be absolutely outstanding. And they wasted no time getting me up and out of there.
-
Michelle you rock! cant beleive you went out to dinner! I usually puke for 24 hrs after surgery! Maybe like you said , they just had you n a twilight sleep. did you tell the husband about the huge implants? and was he disappointed about them being gone? men are such simple creatures..... I was a pretty big D before and wanted the "good" breast reduced to a C during my deip and when I came out of surgery thats the first thing my DH did was look under the sheets,,,and his comment was "thats not a C" apparently he thought it was too small. anyways he has adjusted to the new me.
Oh and Michelle ice cream and drugs? Life is good!
-
apple- say that 4 times fast!
-
LOL at apples' alliteration!!!
Carrie - I am lucky that anesthesia hasn't made me sick, so far. Maybe it's the scopolamine patch, I don't know. I was definitely out, though, intubated and all. Ate the ice cream and didn't need the drugs, not even a Tylenol. Absolutely no pain! I guess I'm just a tough ole bird!!!
Kay - how are you doing? Hoping the lymphedema is improving.
Ok, off to the Lady Grace store to see what breast prostheses and mastectomy bras will do for my figure.

Here's the shrimp creole recipe that I use. It is from an old cookbook put together by employees of Dayton Hudson department stores to raise money for the United Way... Lots of real recipes from real people....
Shrimp Creole
1 Large Onion, diced
1 Green Bell Pepper, diced
6 Cloves Garlic
1 Stick Butter or Margarine
3 (8 oz) cans of Tomato Sauce
3 cups Water
2 Bay Leaves
1 1/2 tsp Sugar
1/2 tsp Crushed Red Pepper (or to taste)
3/4 tsp Lemon Juice
3/4 tsp Hot Pepper Sauce, such as Frank's Hot Sauce
Salt
Pepper
3 pounds Raw Shrimp, peeled
1 Tbs chopped Parsley
Hot cooked Rice
In a 5-quart Dutch Oven, saute the onion and bell pepper in the butter until softened. Add the crushed garlic and saute just a few more minutes. Stir in tomato sauce, water, bay leaves, sugar, red pepper, lemon juice and hot pepper sauce. Season with a bit of salt and pepper.
Heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the shrimp and parsley. Cover and simmer an additional 25 minutes or until shrimp is cooked through.
Remove bay leaves. Serve over rice.
Edited to add.... Those that like things spicier may want to add more hot sauce either to the dish itself or at the table. -
The anesthesiologist that I had for my lumpectomy said that he would give me an injection of something to combat nausea and a long acting pain killer while I was out....
Whatever he did, it sure worked!!! In the past, whenever I had anesthesia, I was sick as a dog for the rest of the day but, this time I was fine. And the pain level really was not bad at all....
Lol, Carberry on the drugs and ice cream..... -
thanks for the recipe Seaside! Perhaps I'll try that for the next Wednesday
Tonight my husband has a meeting so he'll be home late, it's just the boys and me. So....I have no idea. I am feeling lazy it is so dreary out, perhaps pancakes for them or just some pasta, something that does not require me asking them to keep taking bites.
I will agree drugs and ice cream. lol!
-
Well, I have the drugs but I didn't even need to take a regular Tylenol! No pain at all, even today! All is good.
We are going out for seafood and clam chowdah tonight as soon as DH stops working.
The shrimp creole recipe looks really good, I might have to give that one a try!
-
Michelle- I am so glad this surgery has been so easy on you. I felt the same wy after my exchange surgery. I used pain meds the night I came home just in case and then nothing. So happy you are comfy and going for chowda

Boneless chicken Breast was a bargain this week at $1.88/lb if you bought the large package so we've been having chicken week here!
Last night was chicken parm made with part of the package. Tonight is chicken fajitas using Tyler Florence's Ultimate Fajita recipe just subbing chicken for the steak. We'll get one more dinner from this package of chicken but, not sure yet what it will be....
I really like chicken but, am hoping they have a good sale on something else next week...lol! -
Seaside- freeze it! I buy chicken in bulk on sale and repackage it and freeze it so I have two breasts per package. I do the same with all my meat when it's on sale, I know when I am down to only a few packages I have to start searching for the sales again. Plus it's nice not having to buy meat every week, it can give you a nice cheap week of shopping if your budget needs it.
-
Lasagna tonight with Texas Garlic Toast. I was going to do boneless chicken but we had chicken the night before. Last night on my way home from the eye doctors, I brought home takeout. Fried Haddock with FF and DH had Shrimp. They make a Tatar sauce out of dill relish, it was good. I usually make my own tartar sauce with sweet relish and mayo.
-
OK... so the fajita recipe that I used tonight was NOT the one I used before.... Holy crap is it spicy! Will have to figure out which recipe I made last time...
My husband and son like it but it is far to spicy for me but I am wimpy when it comes to spice....
Well now this is bugging me as to what the heck recioe did i use last time...lol! -
We had SNOW here today!!
Started rainy and yuck and then, around 3 or so it turned to snow.... We live on top of a huge hill so have almost an inch on the ground.... Down below in the valley it was just rain..... It will all be gone by morning but, so not looking forward to winter! -
Seaside- Thanks for the creole recipe it sounds delish. LOL on the fajita do you use a packet spice mix? If so it could of been the spicy one?? Everyone is getting snow but us, I love the snow!
Michelle- Clam Chowdah sounds good i will have that tomorrow when we go out, its the best i have ever tasted and has made it in a few cook books- Hope you are still feeling good today/
Joyce- Welcome back glad you made it back safe
Deb- Lasagna sounds good
Laurie- I do the same thing (buy in bulk and freeze) I usually buy 2 hugs packs of hamburger when its 2 for 1 and divide 1 pack up in hamburger patties and put them in sandwich baggies and in a zip lock bag- they defrost in no time
I made blackened sole and asperagus sauted with mushrooms, artichoke hearts, garlic then add white wine, butter spincach and parmesan it was so good i went back for thirds
-
Today I made clam chowdah for lunch at the Senior Center and brought the leftovers - just two big bowls - home. We had it for supper. It tasted a lot better to me than it did when I had been standing over the pot cooking. DH loved it as much as the Seniors said they did.
-
Michelle- All the talk about your hot fudge sunday had me drolling for a couple of days so tonight i drove to DQ and got me a hot fudge sunday with xtra fudge sauce and a banana split for DH boy was it ever good!
-
Debbie - so glad you got your sundae! Sorry to be the diet-buster
OMG it's cold this morning! Even the geese are sqawking. Of course, you'd think they would have flown away by now. Yup, that's snow in this picture! And we are now expecting a big storm tomorrow night. That should make Sunday's Race for the Cure a big cold mess!
-
OH Michelle that picture is so beautiful. what is the name of the lake you are on?
we did not have snow here, but some parts of the state got up to 3 in. YIKES! we still ahve our boat in the water and were thinking of doing a cruise this weekend...maybe not.
So my favorite local grocery store, not a chain, puts out a great magazine called "menu" and they show you recipes and how to make them step-by-step or where to find them in the store already made to take home. they research everything and have prof chefs show you how to make it,and even suggest a wine pairing, they even have an organic farm that is on the next lake over from us and their own egg farm, really an innovative grocery store started by a local family. Anyways the moral of my story is.....they have opened up a New England store, I think near Boston, so if you New England ladies ever get a chance it is an experience to shop there. we have family in California and it is always the highlight of their trip here to visit the wegmans store. I bought some of their roasted red pepper soup for tomorrow afternoon and some gruyere cheese for grilled cheese sand.
-
If you go to Wegmans.com you can find the recipes and store info.
-
Carrie - the lake is Arlington Pond in Salem,NH. It's actually big for a pond - almost ten miles of shoreline. That is the scene right across from our little house. What is the name of the new store opening up around here? We don't have a Wegman's near us, either. Certainly sounds interesting!
-
Oh, are you talking about Wegman's opening up around here? I looked up the "Menu" Magazine and see it is a Wegman's product.
-
i don't mind cooking so much.. i love it.. wish we had the budget to eat out more often.. What is hard is coming up with an idea for dinner. I am still on foot (can't drive due to seizure until Dec. 12th).. so what is in the freezer is what we are having. I'm hoping there is a chicken in there, because I would love to have an oriental chicken soup I'm thinking.
-
shrimp tail nails - my DD a few years ago.
-
Michelle- You should make some postcards out of your pictures they are always so beautiful
Carrie- That site has some yummy looking recipes, one on there that sounds good is speghetti squash with a pomodoro sauce I will have to try that
Apple- How cute and what a fun idea
-
So I found all the things i needed for my Dolly Paton out fit- Bra, large molds for boobs, a cute shirt with tassles on it, cowboy hat, boots,( Wig and the guitar which i already had.) My husband is going to be a priest- It's so much fun to dress up, Hopefully I will get some pictures so I can post them on here or FB Have a great week-end everyone!!
-
.Debbie sounds like you will have a blast, please, please post some pics! someone posted a pic on my facebook page of three older women (gray haired) with their shirts off and painted like the budweiser frogs, their boobs being the eyeballs way funny!
Michelle yes it is wegmans, going in the store is always a culinary experience as they have chefs cooking something on the spot. ours also has sushi chefs there every morning making fresh sushi for the day.
Apple your daughter is adorable...reminds me of when we used to put black olives on all of our fingers
-
Love the dolly Parton costume idea. Hope you'll post some pics. My DD is going to be a jelly fish. All her friends are being something from the sea. They made a wagon into a ship. Don't know how they're going to get it up all the hills and steps in our neighborhood.
And we are supposed to get 4 inches of snow tomorrow I heard. Usually we don't get any snow until January. I will be shocked if we really get a y accumulation.
All your posts are making me hungry! But DD went to the high school football game and will eat there. They sell pizza and hot dogs and such. And dh won't be home u til after 8 from work. Between radiation and the lymphedema and the herceptin, I have no energy or desire to make anything. I think I'll have a bowl of cereal. 2 more weeks of radiation, I can't wait to be done this.
TGIF. Have a great weekend everyone.
