Hello,

when, if at at all,  should someone dx'd with DCIS stage 0, grade 1, (had bi-lateral mastectomy) bother getting an MRI to check for any recurrance in chest wall ? I had multi dysplasia, but dcis just under one centimeter. Should I even bother? I know the chance is extremely minimal? Anyone know when or if at all would be an idea to consider?

thank you, and God bless

I had IDC (not DCIS)..but my onc said an MRI wasn't necessary at my last appt. (Which kind of confused me, because I swore he had said I would need one yearly at my earlier appt.)

Anyway...I asked if I could get one before the end of the year regardless because I had hit my out of pocket maximum and I have implants (MRI can detect rupture/leaking).

So just wanted to let you know that my onc wasn't even concerned about getting MRI's and I had IDC!

Lamblessed!  I have been advised to have a breast MRI (after a bi-lateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction) every 2 - 3 years... It will be done with contrast and the main reason for the MRI is to check to see if the implant has been compromised.. BUT they also check to see if there is any recurrance on the chest wall...  So if you don't have implants I'd say go for the outside of 3 years and yes the chances of anything recurring is very very remote.. Good luck !! Take care,  Deirdre

Lamblessed, I know you realize the chance of local recurrence is small, but I can see that the chance of worry is large! Perhaps you can ask to have an U/S for screening. It should be able to pick up anything local.

    Best of luck.
