I have never made bread from scratch.  I have a bread machine and would buy the mix for the machines at the grocery store but I can't seem to find them anymore.  Some times I will by the frozen dough and bake it that way and also with that dough I make Monkey Bread. YUM

Minustwo- That chocovine sounds really delicious, Monday I will go to the liquor store and see if they carry it. Yes, you are right, the "Richard in the dirt" does have chocolate in it, Here is what i put in it, it has a lot of liquors in it. 1/2 shot each of vodka, malibu rum, peach snapps, amaretto,  grand mariner, and about 1 1/2 shots of dark cream de cocoa, a little oj, and cream, put in blender with ice and blend. I have a little mini bar so usually have all the liquors on hand plus when people come over they leave there bottles of stuff. Sometimes i leave out the vodka and run but the other stuff is key to the flavor. enjoy!!

Laurie-Awww so sorry your bf is moving, My Bf/s are in Hawaii and kentucky and it is hard, i know, but i love taking that fun vacation to go see them, but still not the same (((((((hugs))))))

I love making bread, the kneeding is fun, you get to take all your aggrssions out LOL!

Debbie:  Actually I found it at one of our premier grocery stores - HEB.  But I expect since HEB is based in Tx you don't have such a thing in OR.  It's only 14% alcohol so more in the wine category.  Do you have BevMo?  Maybe there?

Minustwo- We dont have bevmo, but looks like they carry it at world market in portland, (about 2 hours away) I asked DH if he served it at the casino, he said no but could get it from one of his vendors, (yay) will let you know once i get it, love this kind of stuff, thanks!!

Debbie what is the time difference from where you are and the East coast?  Your breakfast sounds wonderful!

Tonight is left over chicken, when I was growing up we called them Poor Boys.  Chicken and gravy on toast aka- hot open faced sandwiches with fries.  Another easy night of cooking for me!  Last nights pulled pork was yummy, we had the left overs for lunch today.  It was a weekend filled with getting ready for winter while chasing the boys.  We have a long way to go but we got a good start of it.  Hope everyone had a great weekend!

    minustwo,

I have had the chocovine..... Delicious!

To me I'm going to say it really didn't taste like a wine but more along the lines of a mild Bailey's Irish Cream.... kind of chocolatey with a kick....

I think each state is different in where they may carry it.... In NY, no alcohol, other than beer is carried in the grocery stores. All other alcoholic beverages are sold through a liquor store.

When we go to the beach in NC, beer and wine are available in the grocery store and the rest must be purchased at an ABC store....

Dinner tonight was eggs and toast...

My husband and son are sick with a pretty yucky cold so didn't feel much like eating... I am hoping that it is the same yuck that I just got done with last week or, at the very least, that I don't catch it....

We are still here having a great time. But, alas, all good things must end. We fly home early tomorrow morning. Joyce flies home later this week. I will write more when we get back to NH.

Just found this thread on the active threads----LOVE it!  I'm somewhat of an amateur cook.  Always looking for new recipes to try and tweaking the old ones.

Tonight was boneless pork loin chops pan seared (I use a cast iron skillet) in olive oil w/garlic, salt, pepper and thyme (NEVER overcook pork!), roasted butternut squash, baked apples and steamed kale w/dried cherries, raisins and seasoned w/cumin and cayenne pepper.  Great fall weather food!

    Happy cooking!

    • 3 eggs
    • 1/4 cup of half and half or cream
    • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin puree
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
    • 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice

We are home and I have been hanging out on the couch all afternoon!  That 5 a.m. wake-up was too early!

Joycek and her DH are wonderful hosts and we had a great time.  We stayed at their lovely home last night and her DH made breakfast and provided "limo" service to the airport.  Last night we went to a restaurant that was a combo diner/deli and Joyce's hubby ordered something called the "Ginormous."  Yup, it was...and here's the proof.

That thing was big enough to feed all four of us, but you can see that he was just delighted! To be fair, he took at least half of it home.

HHere's a picture of JoyceK and her DH at dinner a couple nights ago - we were at a French restaurant, sitting outside and enjoying the fantastic Florida evenings.

And here is my DH with me on the same evening. I went topless almost all the time and the Florida weather seemed to encourage my hair to grow.  If I could stay there for a month, I'd probably have a "style" at the end.

Tomorrow I have to go for my pre-surgery clearance, and Wednesday I go in for my TE removal.

Debbie - pumpkin french bread sounds yummy...I actually had cinnamon challah almond french toast one morning.  I don't usually indulge in such a carby breakfast, but it was "oh, my!" good.

I'm ready for some pork chops...might be tomorrow night's dinner.

Joyce - stay out of the way of that hurricane.  I see it's strengthening and will probably wreak havoc somewhere in the US.  It's good that you'll be back home before it fouls up all the air travel in the southeast!  Hopefully it will weaken and steer clear of southern Florida.

Tried to eat healthy last night w/a big salad w/apples, walnuts, dried cherries and crumbled BLUE CHEESE---buhhhhh---really didn't put that much on, and I figured it would give me a calcium boost---lol!

Going out to buy LARD of all things today----going to try to make my own pie crust instead of the usual store bought and all the good recipes I find have a bit of it in it, so I figure I'll try it at least once.  I'll let you know how it turns out.  Oh, btw, apple pie---good friend our ours Dad goes to market every now and again and buys stuff in bulk, got about a bushel of yummy apples.  Been making applesauce, baked apples, apples in the salad, now pie!  Actually not burnt out on them yet.....

    Have a good day ladies!

Sharon - your salad sounds yummy!  I've also had it with pears, which is also delicious.  Blue cheese is one of those cheeses where a little goes a long way!  Yes, I have heard that lard makes the best pie crust, but I have conceded defeat to pie crust making and always opt for the Pillsbury refrigerated version.  Many, many years ago a friend of mine tried to help me make pie crust using lard (which was her shortening of choice) and I still managed to screw it up.  So now I just don't bother.  And my next apple pie will be deborye's recipe for Swedish apple pie - no crust involved!

Traveling into Boston should be pretty easy today with the mid-day appointment and good weather.  Hopefully, there will be no traffic mishaps.

Michelle and Joy thanks for the pics,  what fun!  good luck Michelle on your up-coming surgery, hope it is a breeze.

Gonna start making some butter cookies, pumpkins and ghosts to give to the chemo nurses Thurs as that is my last Herceptin.  Will be so glad to only visit them maybe every 6mo.  I think they are tired of seeing me also.  A year is a long timeSurprised
