Do You Have Annual MRIs?

On Thursday I have a 3 month check with my onc.  It has been a year since my second bc was dx, and almost six years since my first bc dx.  After the last round, I had a bmx and reconstruction with silicone implants.  I'm concerned about a third bout of bc occuring somewhere that can't be felt, like behind my implants deep in the chest wall.  I'm pretty sure an MRI would detect this, but don't know which of my doctors I should ask to get one scheduled.  Without breasts or a uterus, I don't even know what my PCP will be checking during my "well woman" exam, lol!  I know insurance will cover the MRI, but it has to be coded correctly.  I'm going to bring this issue up with the onc, but was curious if any of you have also had to deal with this.  Surely they don't just patch us up and let us fend for ourselves and expect a self-exam to be sufficient?!

I too am wondering about getting annual MRIs on my body not just breast area.  I will be following this post, hoping to find some answers.  I wonder how mets are detected? Especially since symptoms aren't always evident until it's later.

Weren't your implants placed under your pec muscles? The pectoral muscle is the chest wall isn't it?

Hi NannaBaby:  Yes, my implants are under the muscle.  The pectoralis has two parts, major and minor.  My implants are under the pectoralis major, but sit on top of the pectoralis minor.  My BS told me that because there is little or no actual breast tissue left, it would be easy to feel a new lump.  But that would only be if the lump wasn't behind the implants, right?  Anyway, I'm all for full body scans!.  I, too, wonder about detecting mets. Clues sometimes show up in the blood work that we have done, and some ladies have regular bone scans.  Don't know how they determine who should get bone scans and who doesn't, though.  I'll ask my onc tomorrow and will report back.  Take care!

I did my first MRI chest scan last August 2011.  Happily things are ok.  I simply hope, things will be great in the years to come.  My onco told me to have annual breast mri to monitor recurrence as well as leaking of the silicone implant at my left breast.  Although one cant help but be paranoid, if you have implants because you cannot feel if there is a ny lump behind the implant.
