50 minute bike ride, it was beautiful tonight !!

Survivorwoman, I had my last chemo on November 10th and by March I had ditched the wig. I thought I would wait until May, but I started wearing ball caps on my hair when I went out, and then never went back! You'll find the time that is right for you. there is nothing like ditching the wig! I can't wait for you to get there!!

Joy - enjoy being grandma! Sounds very fun. So does your Kyacking!

Kari, I never get sore tricepts from yoga! What were you doing?? :)

    Hi Spring!

Kari, I didn't walk, just helped out with the information booth.  It HAS stopped raining, and it's sunny and even though it's cooler, it warms up during the day.

I am going to try to go out and exercise today.  I have noticed that my stomach is getting bloated and I think it is from the Tamoxifen...  I wish I could stop taking it.  I have only one more year left...  I will be seeing my onc. next month, so maybe I can figure out what to do...   either quit the hormonals altogether, or maybe switch to the AIs for the last year...  I dunno...  the Femara really messed up my bones!

Have a wonderful week, ladies!  I am helping with the Strides walk in Wilmington NEXT week...

I went out for a run today, but it was kinda rough.  I haven't been exercising enough, guess I'll have to try better...

    Have a great week, everyone!

50 minute bike ride! Great weather!

Don't give up, Harley. It'll be easier next time. I note the more consistent I am, the better. If I slack off, I pay. ugh.

Did Vinyasa yoga and 15 minutes on the elliptical. I am sore all over. I also checked my weight and OMG - gained 5 lb. How? I guess, no more bagels or pasta this week. Back to eating veggies only.

Harley- keep up the good work! You can do it!

    Greetings to everyone!

10 min rule saved me this weekend.  Both days I thought, well just do 10 min and ended up doing more. Have a good and vigorous day everyone

let's see....hmmm sore triceps...we did lots of plank holds, and reverse planks and trying to hold myself down (forgot the term for this position - hovering like a push up, close to ground) before the up-dog! haha

Rode our bikes Friday night while it got dark, and saw somebody had a christmas tree in their living room, with the lights on and all decorated.  I thought maybe it was a soldier or someone who is in town temporarily and they are doing their holidays now?!

I slept all wrong Friday night and woke up at 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning, feeling paralyzed with pain (neck/shoulders), it was so awful!  Ended up at chiro today on my lunch hour.  He said I was locked up on my whole right side of my body. Fixed me up, slowly and lots of painful stretches and ice.  I swear, what the heck do I do to myself? lol

Everyone sounds like they are keepin up with the exercise even if its the 10 minute rule (so love that rule), may be due to the nice weather?!  We've been high 80's everyday for over a week now.

Survivor, I remember ditching Ginger (my wig's name) when my hair was really really short, I was so liberated by the feeling!  But boy, does my DMV picture look strange!  haha

Anyone else keep losing their posts?  It seems to happen to me a lot recently.  I write a paragraph, and poof -- it's gone...

Anyhoo, I've been really slow to get back into my routine since returning from the East coast. Thankfully, kate's post this a.m. struck a cord and got me off my bottom and out the door for a quick 2 mile walk/run.

I need to catch up on the posts I missed while I was away, and I'll do that later.

Interesting about the Christmas tree, Kari.  You're probably right -- maybe someone being deployed soon.  It would be interesting to know if that's the situation.    Deanna

I was so exhausted last night but that nagging 10 minute rule was chanting in my head...just like the "Toga Toga"...you get the drift...haha so I did 10 minutes worth of dancing around my room, what a sight!

Did 100 jumping jacks and have gone to the 3rd floor twice this a.m. 100 steps total and took them 2 at a time, lunge style!  Walk at lunch today and babysitting tonight, and lifting baby girl up and down has its benefits too!

    smooches all!

Deanna, I am not having the poof-post issue, that sucks though.

Got in another quick 2 mile run/walk this a.m.  Had too much to do today to keep at it any longer.

Harley, have you mentioned the bloating to your onc?  That's probably a symptom worth reporting if it persists.

Spring, you're so right about paying if we slack off.  It's been really hard for me to get any momentum going this week.     Deanna

Made it back on Monday evening. My Dd snored all evening. She had a rough few days. Two kids, two dogs, and three birds. Kids went swimming on Sunday and I made sand castles!! Up at 6 am to take the oldest to violin lessons at 7 and then back home to get the younger one up for school. They forgot to tell me the youngest is not a morning person. Lillian and I had breakfast before dropping her off for lessons. Hope I get to babysit again.

I saw your pics on FB, Joy! you looked great with those girls!!

45 on the elliptical for me. I was so cranky and feeling so blah I didn't want to do it, but I "rested' last night... I feel so much better having burned whatever that crap was out of me. Burnt out the blah!!! ha!!

    Spring and Survivor,

Thanks for the encouragement.  It is rough to keep up the exercising... now it's getting cooler, you would think it would be easier...

    Deanna,

I'll mention it to my onc.  He never has anything to say about anything.  I once (at least once) told him I had such terrible fatigue.  He just said :   yes, that is normal.  Nothing about any advice, anything I could do about it...  so... he is NO HELP WHATSOEVER....    ...sigh.... .

That is why I am trying to go to annual onc. appts.   I mean, he never does anything anyway, so why waste my time, driving all the way up there, and back, and sitting there for nothing.

Two days off from work! Instead of resting, I had Herceptin yesterday and my mammogram today. I was running back and forth to the city on both days. I am so wiped out. I really wanted to go to the gym today, but have little energy left. I will catch up with my exercise routine tomorrow. Thankfully, my mammo came back normal. I celebrated it by going for a relaxing facial. It felt great to treat myself to something nice.

Harley: does your onc do any blood work while you are there? Mine drives me nuts with it, but that is part of the clinical trial I am in. She also does a basic physical examination every three months.

Spring - you inspire me so much! I am amazed how you are able to pull yourself through your "blah" moments and do 45 on the elliptical. Fantastic! Same admiration goes to Deanna, Kari, Kate and Joy! Building sandcastles is not easy Joy. Great work-outs Ladies!!!

I really enjoy everyone's pics on FB!  Survivor, GOOD for you with the facial, you could use more pampering!

Harley, maybe you should get a new onc.  My onc is great and you shouldn't settle for less too.

Did Yoga last night, and no sore triceps this week, did different stuff this time.  I was so tired afterward I was in bed at 7:45! ha

Thank Kari and Kmmd - for your kind words about my son - I read today that a man died yesterday during basic training - that sent me into a tail spin - I miss him horribly - but I am so proud of his ambition -

I've slacked a little walking this week- but did about an hour last night and want to tonight - I really should try Yoga - you all seem to enjoy it so much. Almost time to head back to the GYM - it is getting chilly in Iowa - 29 degrees last night - bbbrrrr!Sealed

Survivorwoman, thank you for the cheers! it helps! How are you doing? I hope well. I am thinking of you with your marriage situation, etc. I hope the exercise helps.

I have noticed many times I feel better after exercising, I think if you make yourself do it and experience this over and over again, it sort of helps you through those "blah" times when you just don't want to do it. I try to do something 6 times a week. Taking one day off is sort of luxurious. But I am with Deanna, if you skip too much it makes it hard when you start up. I find the 6x works best for me. Some weeks it is 5, but I aim for 6. I think it is important to find things you like to do!!

So Thursday was 45 on elliptical and 15-20 minutes of yoga stretching at home. Today was a 50 minute bike ride and it was a beautiful evening after work! Mid 60's, clear blue skies, no wind. Very nice! I love a good bike ride at the end of the week. I let the wind whip through me and blow all the work junk out of my psyche!!

Ellieeeeeeeeeeeee, Tryyyyyyyyyyyyy Yogaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!  You will really like it I bet. Don't do hard yoga, do a nice gentle yoga, it should feel in the end like you are restored. Mind, Body, Spirit. It is so nice. Later, if you stick with it, you can go to a more advanced class, but pick a nice gentle one to start off with.

Kari, WOW! Bed at 7:45!! I hope you are not wearing yourself out!!

Harley, I agree with Kari, can you get another Onc? Even once a year, you deserve something better than this friggin' milktoast person!!!

    Kari and Spring,

No...  it's not an option.  There are no doctors where I live.  This guy is a 2nd opinion onc.

He is ok.  The 1st onc would leave the room while I was in Mid-sentence!

He examines me and yes, he does the standard bloodwork but he doesn't do tumor markers...

I guess I just have to live with it.   Honestly, I am sick of all these doctors...  maybe it's time to start weaning off them....   :)

Harley, If you only go once a year, you could drive an hour or two or even go to Duke!! Just sayin. Not like you're going every 6 weeks or something!

    45 on the elliptical today!

    Ah, Spring,

Thanks for your concern.  I have a friend who goes to Duke and to be perfectly honest, I don't think

she is getting the best care there.  She now has bone mets, and I am worried for her.

I think since it IS only once a year, I'll do what I've been doing; making a list of questions, and

making sure that he is checking out EVERY little thing...

WOW!   45 on that dreaded torture machine!!  You ROCK!

Lots of walks, and a fun filled drive to a few lakes in the mountains, talk about rejuvenating!!! YES!!!  Today I'm leaving early for a pamper me-time, a facial, massage and hand treatment!  YAY for those Groupon type deals!!

Springie, I think I was wearing myself out, but feeling good again!

    kmmd, yoga by firelight, LIKE!

Harley, that really stinks about your onc situation and your friend at Duke, so sorry another sister has mets.  SUCKS!!!!!!!!

Ellie and Survivor, thinking of you both!

Deanna, is it getting any cooler down south?

50 minute bike ride! It was getting dark out so we had to ride really fast! I am going to miss the light after work. It is getting darker earlier and earlier now... :((((((   That will mean more elliptical and less cycling. Pooh.

    Hope you all are moving!

Harley, if you're concerned about not getting a tumor marker test like the CA27-29, maybe your PCP could include it the next time he/she orders any other bloodwork?  Mine's done that in the past.  As a bc survivor, I can't imagine your insurance wouldn't cover it no matter who orders it.

Kari, it was sizzling here this weekend.  DH & I worked long hours both Sat & Sun at a charity autocross, and it was hot, hot, hot out there!   I didn't have time to walk either a.m., but I did get quite a bit or running in between the registration desk and the timing area.  Thank goodness a cloud cover came in overnight and cooled things off a lot today!  I walked 2.25 miles this a.m. -- about all I was up to after the exhausting weekend.

I saw my naturopathic doctor on Friday and I was excited that she wants to work on improving my sleep.  I think I sleep fairly well, but I would so love to wake up really rested and refreshed every morning!  For the past 3 nights she had me try a high dose Melatonin that I didn't like at all. So on to option #2 this week.

Hope you enjoyed the pamper time, Kari!  I have a facial (a complimentary one) tomorrow, and I'm soooo looking forward to it!

Have a great week, everyone!   Deanna

    Hi,

Can I join this thread? I finished chemo three weeks ago and have gained 15 lbs since the end of chemo (that's right 15 in 3 weeks). My GP says it is not water retention--just overeating menopause. I don't know what to believe. Anyway, I have always exercised, even all the way through treatment, but have had to back off in the last few weeks due to extreme leg fatigue, but I am ready to ease back into things. The last two days I have walked 1 hour a day and have started going back to Pilates.

I have my mastectomy this Thursday. Will I be able to keep the walking up?

    Hello  cdairth,

Welcome to this thread!  This is a wonderful group of women!  I think you are doing just great, with your walking!  Oh, and I have good news for you...  I went for a walk when I got back from the hospital the day after my mastectomy.  If I did it, then SO CAN YOU!

Great to 'meet' you, but sorry it has to be under these circumstances.

    Kari and Spring

    Thanks for the sympathy.

    Deanna

That is a great idea!  I think I'll ask my surgeon, since he is the only one who listens to me.

Everyone have a wonderful day!  Today is my running day, but I think I'll wait til it warms up.  It's kinda cool out and I'm a wimp!
