Middle Aged Memories

Meece, I had the opportunity to meet some of the ladies a few weeks ago (part of the ChrissyB journey,) so we did have an actual game one night. So, with my extensive trivial knowledge (and getting lucky on a super easy sports question) I managed to claim victory. Marybe wants a rematch, and I want some more salt water taffy (that we were eating that night) so one of these days....I'll have to beat her again. Aha-ha-ha!
-
Ah, I thought it might have been a virtual game.

Just joining in: favourite memories. Include: first garter belt wItH nylon stockings and mini skirt and gogo boots for Christmas; Mickey Mouse Club with Mouseketteers including Annette Funicello; Moondoggy; My Three Sons, Leave it to Beaver, Razzle Dazzle, Friendly Giant; black light, foot prints on the ceIling, lava lamps, cushions on the floor, beaded curtains...
-
Were those footprints fuzzy?
Forgot to say, my dog chewed off my troll's hair too. Pretty turquoise hair. On Easter. That reminds me. I had a plush dog with the same kind of combable hair as a trioll with an A.M. radio inside! I still have it. It still works. Good to listen to for tornado coverage, plus hug for security. Haha!
Friendly Giant? Loved that show. I always "sat" in his rocking chair, "for those who like to rodk."

Remember how our mom's 60's hair-dos required lots of rain protection? Mine always had one of those attractive (a-hem!) accordion-folded rain bonnets in her purse. She gave me one in it's own little pouch (see below) which I doubt I even wore once. I think the hippies at Woodstock liberated all future hair from ever having to wear one again. The times, they were a-changin'.
-
I loved taking my mom's "scarf" and snapping it back into a flat strip!
-
My mom and grandmother also carried folding pill cups in their purses.
My grandmother had so much in her purse. Sha also carried these scissors:
-
Did we ever discuss "Soaky bottles"?
My grandmother kept the empty bottles at her house and we used to play with them there. Here are pics of a few I recall more clearly:
-
What were the Soakies used for? I don't remember those at all but I do very much remember the rain hats that folded! Also the clear plastic rain boots that fit over your shoes for rain or snow. I still have a pair but don't think I'll be trying them out any time soon, but you never know!
-
Eli I have my Aunties rain bonner that has a holder that looks just like that. It goes everywhere with me. I dont wear it I just carry it as a reminder of her.
-
Soakies were bottles from bubble bath.
-
I kind of remember the Snow White one and the Bullmoose one. I had an Elmo one for my kids once. My childhood bubble baths were with Tide. Seriously. It was powdered soap, not detergent. I think my mom caved in to my pleas for Mr. Bubble once or twice. I love the old commercial for that. Check it out:
"Madame, How do you do?" Ha-ha-ha! Still funny.
-
I just found this thread. I turned 50 in September so I'm loving this trip down memory lane!
I haven't read all the pages so I hope you don't mind if I jump in.
Wow - I remember those rain bonnets. My dad was a salesman, cars & insurance, and seems I remember some of his companies used these with their names on the cases as advertising. I always thought they were cool in the case but hideous on your head! LOL!
Does anyone remember fuzzy wuzzy soap.
I bet whatever was in that soap that made it grow hair really wasn't good for you. It sure was fun to run in the bathroom in the morning to see how much "hair" my animal had grown over night. The toy surprise inside was alway pretty lame.
-
I had a fuzzy wuzzy soap, it was in the shape of a bear. I was beginning to think that I imagined the whole thing, because nobody I have asked about it remembers. PlantLover, thanks for the validation, lol. I don't recall a toy surprise inside though
.
-
I had the FuzzyWuzzy Bear, too! Don't remember what the prize was, must have been pretty unmemorable.
-
If you wear one of those rain caps, does that mean you have bread head?
-
Dutch - glad I could help and "bread head" LOL!
Native - thanks for a pic of how "beautiful" the piece of plastic looked on - yes, just as stylish as I remembered. ;-)
-
As a kid, i rememebr my grandmother carrying more than one, just in case we girls needed one. So humiliating to have to humor grandma.
-
I hated them as a kid, now I wish I could find a couple, one for the car and one for the purse. Just in case!
-
They might have been embarrassing back then but now seeing the pictures brings back such warm sweet memories of my lovely Mom, Thanks NM as always! Check vermont country store catalogue they always have the old stuff!
-
Ah, yes, Vermont Country Store, I had fogotten about them. 'bout time to be getting another catelog from them!
-
I remember my first Halloween costume of a gypsy and it was made of plastic!
-
Guess everyone ran out of memories???
-
I had some, but then I forgot what they were....
-
Hahahahahaha, Dutchgirl!
-
I jsut got my Vermont Country Store catalogue but haven't go to open it yet.
-
Do you remember Mummenschanz? They were mimes.
-
Were they the ones who had a routine with the toilet paper rolls (or was that Blue Man Group?)
I wish this thread would get revived by more ladies with good memories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Meece, Know how our moms rarely let us spend money on trendy fad junk? Well, I must have really begged, because I DID get these wigs somehow. They were nothing more than ugly molded plastic. My mom refrained from saying, "I told you so." Lesson learned.
-
Ugh, I remember those wigs! hhmmm....memories....let's see. How about the little wax bottles with colored sugar water in them? I think that's when my drinking first started!! And Chinese jump rope, does that even still exist? You never see kids outside playing that. I liked it so much I used to string it up inside the house between a dining room chair and the leg of the coffee table.
