2nd Cancer - not done with treating 1st!
So upset. I was just dx yesterday with a 2nd BC. My first dx was a little over a year ago and I'm still taking Herceptin through Nov. I had neo chemo, lump and Rads. I insisted on a yearly MRI and it found two spots. MRI biospy (not fun) on Monday, 1 spot b9, one cancer. It is small, less than 1cm and my BS did not have the path results on the markers yet. She said different quadrant than 1st so she thinks new occurance, not recurrance. She is recommending mast.
Seems that since I had Rads, I will likely be recommended against an implant and will have to look into an own tissue recon.
Any experiences or advice would be appreciated. I'm meeting with PS on Monday. And will spend more time looking around the threads.

Meegan. Hopefully someone will be around soon to give you information on non-implant recon options. Just popping in to say how sorry I am to hear about this new diagnosis - especially after all that treatment!

Meegan, so sorry to hear about your 2nd cancer. I had unilateral DIEP and the recon looks great - it's a big surgery but totally do-able and results are terrific. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
Is the complete path back, is the new cancer HER2+ also?
best of luck,
Sue

Hi Meegan: Your own tissue for reconstruction is the only way to go! DIEP is what I had. Check out the boards for everyone who had it.. I haven't seen anyone disappointed yet...
I'm sorry you had a second diagnosis. the first time is bad enough......I'm sure the second is even worse. Hugs and prayers coming your way! (PM me if I can help with any info on the DIEP).

Reading Mama - So, sorry that you're going through this again. Thank goodness you were proactive about a follow-up MRI! I had BMX and hip-flap reconstruction and I had previously had a lumpectomy and radiation on my BC side. I'm going back to New Orleans for my Stage 2 procedure this week. I already think that the reconstruction looks great. You can look at the NOLA thread for lots more information or if you wish you can PM me.

Thank you. Yes, someone else recommended the NOLA thread, so I will look over there, I will also look at the recon threads. The path did not come back yet, so I don't know the markers yet. I would certainly be very upset if it is HER2 + as I am still on Herceptin! I go for #16 on Wed., which means only 3 left.

ReadingMama, so sorry you are having to deal with this again. I just had DIEP on Aug. 17. It went fine and the results are good. I have heard great things about NOLA, but got mine done locally in Phila. Whatever your decision, I wish you luck and know that everything will come out fine.
