Get to a healthy BMI - Oct 2011
I was overweight when I started treatment and gained 10 pounds during treatment. I am doing weight watchers online and want to get my BMI into the middle of the normal range which for me means losing about 20 pounds! My biggest problem is keeping to the program and not snacking (!) as you might guess and I was thinking that if I could join with others who need to lose some weight and want to get in better shape that would help me move forward.
Does anyone want to join me?

Happily! I lost weight on treatment, and am in my healthy BMI range, but the higher end. My doc wants me on the low end. I'll join in!

Yay misswim! Thanks! Do you like to swim?

I'm in.
I have a LONG way to go to a healthy BMI. But I started Weight Watchers and joined the YMCA.
Accountability would be great! -
So I am not sure how to do it - should we try weighing in once a week?
-
You all are welcome to join the Wednesday Weigh-In thread - that's all we do - report in every Wednesday. Most of us don't post our actual weights - we just post if we're up or (hopefully) down and by how much. But some people have more of an incentive if they report their actual weight, so some of us put the cold hard numbers out there every week.
Also, you may want to check out loseit.com. It was recommended by one of the ladies on the Let's Post Our Daily Exercise thread (another great thread for encouragement and accountability).
I'd lost almost 60 pounds before my dx, and was within 10 pounds of my goal weight when I found the lump. I gained 22 chemo pounds. As you can imagine, re-gaining those 22 pounds was extremely upsetting. Once treatment was over, I began doing the same exercise and diet routine that had worked before, and nothing. Not a single pound lost in almost 3 years - sooooooo frustrating. I think between chemo induced menopause, the chemo drugs, and the AIs, my body had really changed, and the old strategies I'd used to lose weight simply didn't work anymore. This January I shook up my exercise program, adding in weights/resistance trainining and yoga in addition to ellipticalling, hiking, and jogging. Then I started using loseit.com. That was the final piece to the puzzle of how the heck to lose weight with this new body and metabolism that cancer treatments had given me. It's not easy - it takes me as long to lose just one pound as it took to lose 2-3 pounds before dx, but it is what it is. And I'm back in my old pants again!
Good luck!

Thanks NatsFan - I'll do just that.
-
I'll join you.
Weighed in at WW today - DOWN 3.8lbs. Yeah, I'm a little proud.
-
3.8 pounds is great!! Are you doing the points system?
-
Not a swimmer actually, Omaz. I am a kickbox and yoga-a-holic. Neither of which I have done since I was diagnosed 6 months ago. My chemo ended yesterday, and I am aching to excercise...... Onc told me to give my body a week or two to get the kinks out. I'm doing yoga in the morning if I am up to it. I want to get moving!
-
misswim - Big Congrats on finishing chemo - that is huge!!!
-
OMAZ - Yes, I am doing the points system. I figure I'll do this until I plateau and then I'll do the other program (I forget what they call it).
