? for LCIS patients, did your diagnosis change after lumpectomy?

LCIS doesn't generally "turn into" ILC (although some studies say it now may be a precursor in a small number of cases---my bs quoted less than 5%)---if ILC was found so soon after the LCIS was found (only 10 weeks), it's more than likely the ILC was already there--it just wasn't detected at the same time.

Awb
Yes and no- I probably had LCIS for awhile but it was un-detected since I had been going for yearly mammograms for 15 years- in Sept 2010- microcalcifications showed up for the 1st time and prior to that January 2010 I had a pebble for a short time which gyn found but was not detected by ultrasound or mammogram. I should of had a MRI but when I did have one it was "probable benign" (11/2010) and so that is how it sometimes goes. Yes, they kept saying 80/20 rule (80% no 20 % yes)- unfortunately ILC is sneaky so I wish you all luck and yes the odds are in your favor.

Ok, I may post this somewhere else too, but I have a question about the healing of lumpectomy. It's been 2 wks now, and when I cam home the look of the boob looked the same with some swelling , perhaps overall smaller, but same appearance as before. However, 4 days ago, I started noticing a sort of linear dent, adjacent to the 2 inch scar line, and each day the dent in moving and getting bigger. Now there is a 3 inch dent line the runs from near the scar all the way under my nipple now and heading towards the middle of my chest. My lump was supposed to be only 1.6 or 1.9cm and was told they were removing a golf ball sized chunk, but why would it be healing this way. This is not what I expected. I was thinking that near the scar, there would be a dent or shallow spot there, where they did the cutting. It seems weird. I do go to surgeon on Tuesday and hopefully she will have some great answer for this. I am bummed because I knew that already small boob would be smaller and mis-shapened but not deformed. I wish I could take a picture because it is changing daily. I'm scared there is something else in there.

it takes quite a while for the breast tissue to settle---several months or even longer---a have a little divet (or dent) from where my lumpectomy was and that was over 8 years ago
