I recently had core biopsy done for calcifications near nipple - waiting results. Found during annual mammogram. (Left breast)

Appearance before physical ( note: breasts good match before - noticed size change when putting on braless top - wouldn't balance) areola distorted - bottom edges zig--zag(puckers, slight bump above nipple), nipple faces down and to side, breast now about 1/4 size bigger than other and nipple lower, firm Triangular shape 3/8"(colour of areola) 1/8" away from areola size,

Latest: slight swelling 2" x 3" on side of breast, skin looks different than rest of breast so its visually noicable. All this before biopsy. I mentioned it to GP but she said they'd probably check it at clinic. There they just had me lay in bed and did biopsy. Done.

I do not know if these are signs of IBC. I find info confusing.

My questions? Will the core biopsy show IBC? Do you get calcifications with IBC? I will have a followup with GP once she gets results from biopsy. Should I say anything again? What? I'm a little lost. In this confusing breast world.

You will probably have an appt. to see a doctor when your biopsy comes in.  Let the doctor know of any changes at this time.  A digital ultrasound showed ibc after my biopsy; though they already knew it was cancer.  Don't panic and make sure you are thoroughly examined.

    Thank you Terri.

I will be seeing my family doctor once she has the results from my biopsy.  We have a breast screening program here in Ontario.  They did my breast exam and mammogram, ultrasound (not my doctor).  My doctor gets results then she referred me to the Breast Health Centre in the city and they did my biopsy.  They will send results back to family doctor.  It has been 2 months since my mammogram.

Things take a long time and there are so many channels.  I have been given very little information. It is sent to family doctor. I did mention what was happening,  and she had said to talk to them at Centre, but they just did biopsy. It's interesting that she hasn't really been involved except for referral.  This is a little scary. I think this is why I am asking for help with what to say.  I don't even know if I should be checked for IBC.

If they did the biopsy 'on' the area you are now having visual changes....then that should get to the bottom of it.  If they took the biopsy from a different area, then you need to demand they at least do a skin biopsy of the area of concern now.  And 2 months is too long to wait "if" it were IBC.  The specialists have stated that IBC is an emergent situation because of the rapidness.  Can you call the breast center and talk to whoever is in charge and tell them about your concerns?

Sorry to sound harsh, but IBC symptoms are visual, and you did a good job of describing what you are experiencing.  You might also want to call your family doctor and tell him/her what is happening, like tomorrow!   Ruling out IBC is what you need. Sorta like going on a long car trip and checking the brakes first.  Rule out IBC first, then deal with whatever is causing these changes.

I hope you write back here and let us know how you are.
