I have a high risk of developing breast cancer but no one in the family has been tested for the BRCA 2 gene. Is the BRCA 2 gene associated with certain types of breast cancers or any and all. My mother was just diagnosed with invasive metaplastic breast cancer and a sister with some other ductal cancer. I can't seem to find anything on the web that addresses that question. Thanks

Sorry you are facing these difficult issues. Brca mutations predispose people to a variety of cancers, especially breast and ovarian. As far as the type of breast cancer, I'm not sure, but there are higher incidences of triple negative breast cancer in brca mutation carriers. Check the FORCE website, they have all the answers and a great people.

I agree with the above poster to check out the FORCE website at www.facingourrisk.org . Curious as to why your mom and sister have not had genetic counseling/testing for either one of the BRCA genes and not just BRCA2. BRCA related breast cancers have no boundaries. Unfortunately, you do not not know the extent of your high risk with/without a family mutation being identified. If they either/both tested negative, this could have further implications/questions to your risk status as well. I would encourage genetic counseling at the very least. Best wishes.
