What to do about pinktober...yuch..

I just watched the movie Five. Did anyone else watch it? I thought I would be inspired. The movie was the opposite. I cried more than I have in years. In my opinion, it was nothing more than a commercial. Sorry for the rant, but I had to post this.

Let me tell you how we got the Pink, in 1992 we collected thousands of signatures in each State, Revlon lend me her model to help, there was no money assigned to breast cancer, tecks that did mammograms did not have certifications, reconstructions were not covered by insurance and very few choices of chemo.

Many women had a mastectomy as out patients. We took all this signatures and we told  Senators, Congressmen, etc that we would march with out tops off if there was no help.

An artist had her picture taken for the NYT showing her mastectomy, many women complain, we were lead by National Breast Cancer Coalition,Fran Visco, Dr Susan Love, and all the captains from each State, YME, Kommen was NOT `part of our efforts at that time, many ladies resigned Kommen to join our political agenda.

So when you think about pink, think in many fighters that are still with us, but many more that are not, that they used their own funds for themselves or for others to fly and lobby in D.C.

We did not have Internet, all was done by phone, fax and letters.

Now thanks to our efforts and I count all the ones that yearly contact their Senator and Congressmen we get funding from the DOD.

When I see Pink, I am proud, we were able to have laws passed, we have a better chance to win the battle.

i think, however, after reading your powerful post, i'm more irritated by the degradation of such powerful movements! i mean, now we're reduced to "crazy sexy cancer vixen" bullshit, pink ribbons on KFC buckets, and stupid bracelets about saving the "ta tas" (as if my boobs are more important than my life). i know, i know - it's better than silence and shame about this horrible disease. ultimately, however, i want society to do better, and for corporate greed to take a VERY BIG backseat.
