Scared....Please Help

Hi,

I post sporadically on some other forums. My name is Katie and I was dx in March 11. I went thru 6 cycles of Taxotere, Carboplatin, and am still taking Herceptin. I had my UMX in August and my BS said the chemo did it's job, crushing my tumors to micromets and at the time of surgery there was no lymph involvement. During diagnosis in March there WAS lymph involvement so the chemo helped with that too. All my scans came back good in March also.

As I started to begin RADS, they did the normal simulations and x rays. Yesterday, I get a call from my onco saying that the radiologist who read my RADS pLanning saw some bone scarring on my thorax/spine. My onc wanted to investigate further with a MRI and a bone scan. I am literally freaking OUT. My radiation oncologist says to be calm that neulasta can cause these types of things to show up and it would be highly unusual for this to be something serious as I just completed active tx but I CANNOT stop worrying. Like everyone else here, I have a family, a 5 year old son and I cannot fathom having to change treatment plans when everything is still so new. Praying for a miracle.

    i am sorry you're going thru this hopefully it is neulesta. this is a h*ll of a rollercoaster ride we are on, it seems like one thing or another keeps being thrown at us, i keep telling them i don't like rollercoasters but no one seems to be listening!

    it sounds like you rad guy is on the ball,better safe than sorry and get it checked out.

    Katie- Did you have any scans prior to chemo? CT, PET, or bone scans?

    My rad onc (this was after 4 AC + 4 T chemo) sat me down to tell me she saw a 'spot' on my liver and my spine in the CT scan that she ran.  While I freaked out, she calmly told me that she compared it to my previous scans (pre-chemo) and they were the same size...they would have been smaller if they had been mets.  So they are probably some sort of fluid pockets.  She also reminded me that everyone has weird things in their body but most people don't ever get all the scans we get, so they go undiscovered.

    If they have other, pre-chemo scans, they can compare. Don't freak out (yeah, right); it is likely and hopefully nothing.  Thinking of you, and please keep us posted.

    Thank you all for your comments. They really keep my strength up. I did have a bone scan and CT scans prior to chemo. At that time they saw nothing crazy. Just the normal lungs from someone who lives in air polluted Ohio Valley and a super small spot on my liver which they called a cyst.

    They saw this spot from an XRAY for my RADS simulation. I did ask my rad onc if they did a comparasion from my bone scan in March and she said No they did. She also said that some Radiologists call some things on a report that others do not. I am keeping the faith......

    Your onc just wants to have a clearer image to compare to.  I would try not to worry.  For some reason my rads onc was always a negative Nelly and when I would bring it up to my regular onc he would say it was no big deal.  I know the waiting is hard...and we are here to hold your hand til you get your great results. Laughing

    OMgosh I so get it!  I am the same way when the doc "finds" something unexpected.  But I agree with the other ladies, at this point it sounds just precautionary.  

    Keep praying and we will with you that all continues to be well!

    i am new to this site' i havent been diagnoised yet''' i noticed some reddish mark 4months ago on my right breast and jst three days ago i felt a lump there' i ve been to see my doctor yesterday and she felt it too and referred  me to the hospital in two weeks for a scan(feels like forever) i am inshock' i am very scared' all i think abt now is breastcancer;;; pls can anyone tell me their experience and if every lump is cancerious'' i cant do notin in the house' i am jst here thinking of the worse''' please help'' thanks'' could it be cancer????

    I understand you being scared, everytime they find something new it will scare the hell out of you.  Your chemo was successful so find reassurance in that and keep the faith.  I've had 3 different "areas of concern" that needed further scans and they all came out fine and I'm sure they're just being cautious with you.  I hope you feel better soon and let us know how things go.  Sending you hugs and prayers.

    lyn4real, some lumps are cancer and some aren't.  The only way to be sure is to have any lump scanned with mammogram and ultrasound initially and if it still looks suspicious, a biopsy follows.  I can imagine how worried and scared you are.  Is there any way you can get an earlier appointment?

    Ugh....so now the scans came back,,,,positive for cancer in the spine....I thought that damn Herceptin was supposed to work. Any ideas to what the treatment will be?

    I am very sorry.  I hate this damn disease too.  Prayers with you.  I do not have experience, but know there are a lot of very successful treatments for bones.  l think they will get you to NED real soon.  Hang in there.

    I posted the wrong link - sorry. Very hopeful info regarding spinal cancer and treatments. There are several different treatments out there that are hopeful and in use. Don't give up hope - just another new experience thrown in the mix. There is still a great deal to be hopeful about. Sounds like your cancer team expect you to live a long time and intend you do so.     i am so sorry. as jazz said don't give up hope,there are several different treatment options. i think you should send the radiologist a card thanking him for catching it, i know it's his job but it's nice to receive appreciation for doing a good job, and maybe he'll continue to do a good job and not get burned out and let someone slip thru the cracks. i hope my radiologist is on the ball. mmm i need to send a card to the dr who did my biopsy!

    GRRRR---- I want to kick this cancer's ass. (opps).  I am sorry the scans showed something new, but try now you know what you are dealing with---as they say----knowledge is POWER!  Believe it.
