Shooting pains in NON-Cancer Breast....Help.

Good morning.  My treatment ended 12/2010 when I had a bilateral breast MRI which showed a "probably benign 3.8 mm intramammary node" in my right non-cancer breast" - left was good.  Now, I am due for my 1 yr. checkup following treatment in December which will be a mammogram this time.  Over the past two weeks I have had shooting pains and sometimes dull pains my right breast toward my armpit. I've done an exam or two and found no lumps or bumps but this concerns me.  Do you think I should call sooner than later to ask for an ultrasound or just wait until December.  I've also noticed my nipple has been a little itchy lately, but could be due to dry skin.  My 6m mammo in June was good - but I have hetergenously dense breasts so I'm sure they couldn't see a damn thing anyway.  My next bilateral breast MRI according to my oncologist's NP isn't to be until one year from this coming December cause they just don't think I need it cause I am/was Stage 1 even though ALL my mammo's say dense and even the radiologist says I should have MRI's, my onc's office says it's not necessary. Anyhoo, what do you guys think?  I don't want to run to the Dr. if it's nothing, that will embarress me.

    good morning,  I hope like heck the shooting pains mean nothing....because I've been having them off and on for months in my non-cancer breast. Even if it means nothing physically, I can honestly tell you that it's doing a number on me mentally. I have an onc appointment on Thursday morning, and I'm pretty sure he'll tell me it's nothing - since everything seems to be 'nothing' when I bring it up with the docs. I'll let you know what he says to me about this.

    Also, my dx was DCIS. I had a right side mastectomy and now have the six month split of mammo/mri.

    Don't ever feel embarrased about calling or seeing the doctor with any concerns.  Having gone through breast cancer you have a right to have any and all concerns addressed as soon as you can get in to see someone.  Seriously, I've been someone who's always worred that I would be seen as a hypochondriach and every time I've waited, it actually did turn out to be a problem.  Now I'm not saying that you might have an issue, but I think if you are concerned about the pain, then have it addressed by your doctor and be able to put your fears at rest.  

    I waited a year to have a sore that kept opening and closing on my nose looked at my a dermatologist.  I didn't want to seem like I was worried about every little thing.  Well, I ended up having to have 5 rounds of MOHS surgery on that sore that turned out be morphea basal cell.

    Considering your medical  history, they should take you very seriously.  And if they don't?  Then it might be time to see someone else.  Just my 2 cents.  :)

    A deep, shooting pain (not a constant pain, almosts like "sparks" of severe pain) was one of my symptoms of breast cancer so I would ask for an MRI at the very least and not feel feel bad about it. I hope all is well and the pain means nothing for you.  But you need to be sure.

    Are you ladies on hormone therapy?, as breast pain can be a side effect.

    Racy,  I'm not on any therapy/drug right now - but that's subject to change on Thursday when I visit my onc.  I stopped taking tamox last October because of joint and bone pain. However,  I've had my ovaries and tubes out, and in all honesty, I've gotten scared. I had grade 3, dcis, and had mx in September 2009.

    I have been taking Norethindrone for a few months because lack of progesterone (chemo/menopause and period coming back).  But, this is a new pain, not like a hormonal pain. I know those and can feel those are different.  I suppose it's a strong possibility but I still think I am going to ask about it and call my nurse practitioner tomorrow or maybe I'll talk to her tonight at our Breast Cancer Survivor's dinner put on by my cancer center.  Thanks ladies for your advice.

    Sandra, please don't be embarrassed for having concerns. It is completely understandable considering your being a bc survivor and all. In your first post you said, "probably benign 3.8 mm intramammary node" in my right non-cancer breast". Did they do a biopsy back then? If not I would certainly revisit this with a doctor and not a NP. You are in my thoughts and am wishing a positive outcome!

    I need to bounce this issue around as it involves someone w/o breast cancer... a near a dear person.

    Itchy nipple/ w tingling like almost pain/ normal mammo 2 months ago.  I advised to get it checked out with a BS and push for a MRI if indicated.
