Hi everyone -- so sorry I've been so overwhelmed with work -- one big project done, but all kinds of other deadlines following, and I'll feel like I'll never get my brain working right again...
I've read through all the pages (a lot!!!) since I was last here -- beautiful photos of your family, Blue, and of your lake, Artsee -- I've missed so many birthdays (Bren, SusieQ, Sunflowers) and anniversaries and good MRI reports (yay, Athena!)...
((((Kira)))) hope your DH is recovering well, and that you get a good report.
Blue, I've been dreading hearing this news about Nicki -- heartbreaking.
HL, how are you feeling?
Enjoyful, buena suerte y buenos viajes!
Jancie, so glad you had a great time in Vegas!
((((((((((((((( hhhuggggsssssssss to all )))))))))))))
-
Ann - nice to "see" you back. I hope you are able to come up for air at work....I have been ridiculously snowed under recently.
(((Kira))) what a day you had. I hope your DH is mending nicely.
Very sad to hear about Nicki - I never really knew her but I did read her posts and remember one a few weeks ago in which she said she was ready to stop chemo, and that she was feeling rotten all the time. It sounds as though she made the right decision. Now, hopefully she will enjoy some more comfortable days.
Susie - congratulations on your anniversary - how many years has it been?
And now, if anyone can come up with a good effigy of my supervisor. Here are the "specs" - hope this is therapeutic:
--pea-sized brain
--a bully
--barely competent
--a product of upward gravity (shit floating to the top, as in the Peter Principle which Riley pointed out)
If you think I sound harsh, you haven't met her. Whoever comes up with a great, funny picture, I will be eternally grateful. In the meantime, I am having to consider new medication just to deal with her - because she's nuts and so am I - lol!
-
Waiting to see how much snow we'll get from this first winter storm of the season...I'm hearing anything from 3-10 inches. Not ready yet!! The aspens are still golden!
If all goes well, I will be adopting a kitty tomorrow. She's a pretty little black and orange tortie, 6 months old, fuzzy and sweet. Hope no one has beaten me to her. My other kitty seems to be lonely since his "brother" died...
I'll post a pic if I get her!
-
Athena, I know just what you mean. There are a bunch of funny photos here: http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/sarahpalin/ig/Sarah-Palin-Pictures/ I'm sure one would suit your needs!
Anne,Oh, I hope you get your kitty! Look forward to seeing her pics!
AnnNYC,Gracias y buenas noches!
Good night, all!
-
Mary and Ann so good to 'see' you back here. Athena I have a boss that resembles yours.
Oh Anne, I so want another kitty for Lucy. DH I'd anti to the point of divorce. -
Athena - 34 years. Silly DH thought it was 35 years - he got mixed up and thought it was 2012 - fool, but I love him. We're not going out, I'll roast a chicken tonight - too easy. We'll have apple and rhubarb crumble for desert - yummy.
-
Happy A Day Susie!
Athena, I saw this and thought of you.

-
Barbara, thank you - that's lovely!
E - lol!

I'm off to my DD for 1 of 2 Thanksgiving dinners this year. Monday will be at my place. Have a great weekend.
-
Happy Thanksgiving, Blue -- and all you Canadians! Have a beautiful weekend!
-
Yes, all my Canadian friends, Happy Thanksgiving. We have much to be thankful for.
-
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! Hope the weekend is as glorious for all of you as it is here. Truly fall at its best.
I'm atoning and contemplating today . . . in particular, right now, I'm contemplating how good the apple cake I just took out of the oven smells, and wondering how on earth I'm going to make it until sunset.
(My SO's family has a Yom Kippur tradition of meeting at a specific restaurant that's close to the (very non-traditional, humanistic) temple they belong to. That's where we had the pre-fast meal last night. The problem is, at some point in the past year, this restaurant totally revamped its menu and concept and transformed itself into . . . a barbecue place. In other circumstances, no one at the table would have the least problem digging into a slab of ribs, but on Yom Kippur eve, that just seemed . . . wrong. I think we'll have to find another place.)

Happy Canandian Thanksgiving!
I have a question-how can they call it "Urgent Care" if you are there for almost 4 hours before anyone sees you? My daughter was visiting us last night, and slipped and fell on our stairs, hitting her back on the stair edge pretty hard. She was in a lot of pain, so my husband and I took her to the "Urgent Care" clinic that her insurance requires her to go to. We got there at 11:00 PM-she was pretty quckly triaged-and then she and I sat in a patient room until 3:00 AM before the doctor came to see her. The place was not that busy, but there was only 1 doctor on duty and apparently a fall injury is not high on the list of priorities. Doctor did and x-ray-nothing broken-and gave her some painkillers and muscle relaxants. It was almost 6:00 AM before we got out of there.
I guess I'm just frustrated that there was only 1 doctor on duty on a Friday night. Good news is-nothing was broken. I was very worried for her as she doesn't have the best of sick leave policies at her work, and she is living from paycheck to paycheck. I'm grateful that she does have health insurance but I wish this organization's "Urgent Care" seemed a little more urgent.
Thanks for letting me vent. I'm operating on about 3 hours of sleep.

Wow, I did not know that Thanksgiving is going on in Canada already. Happy Holidays to all of you up North a piece.
Susieq...yup, I do sense some stress coming from your posts. But I hear you. We can't live with them...or without them. It's so interesting this stress and cancer thing...we should take a poll of what happened before BC.
Those little cats above look so tame don't they.Grrrrr!
-
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving.
-
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving - we don't any such thing over here.
Artsee - I'm not stressed at all - just live with a man (child) - that says it all

Mary - hope your daughter is not in too much pain - she's lucky it wasn't worse.
No storms this morning - yesterday was a freak event - normally storms in the pm not early morning. DH going to golf, so I can go and shop to my heart's content and won't have to make lunch and could even fit in a nap.
Enjoy your weekend girls!!!
Sue

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving all.
Mary - phew! Thank goodness your daughter is ok.
-
Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadians!!
Hoping Anne gets her kitty and will be back with pictures soon. Torties are kind of known for being a bit crazy ... we should get lots of stories out of this

Mary ... it seems like all Urgent Care and Emergency rooms are like that. You wait and wait and wait some more. Hope your daughter gets to not hurting soon. You probably need to go take a nap now.
Sad to hear that Nicki is not doing well
I had noticed that it has been several days since she posted on FB and that is unusual for her. I have been doing Christmas shopping and actually wrapped packages today. Seems weird right now but I am going to be gloating about how I'm all done later
We are going to Florida to visit daughter and grandkids and taking stuff along is much better than having to mail it later so it gets me motivated. Not looking forward to the 2 day car trip though ... I want one of those Star Trek transporters.
Waving hello to everybody! I've read but I'm so far behind if I comment on everything I will fill up the whole page. Hugs to those who need them ... congratulations to those with good things going on ... and sympathy to those dealing with difficult jobs and people and other unpleasant things.

Happy Thanksgiving, neighbors!
Can't believe I am saying this but I enjoyed the sun today and yesterday. The reason is because the air was thin, coool, and of good quality. You could actually breathe. Not swamplike at all. It didn't feel like DC at all. So nice.
Our chaplain has been busy at the BCO G&G. It's open, so let's all pour in, shall we. It has been quiet here lately.
Rabbit - Christmas?? Some are early planners and some are definitely not. I asked for the day off after Thanksgiving yesterday and was told it was too early to make such a request!
-
Yes-I totally agree that my daughter's fall could have been so much worse, and I am so grateful that it wasn't.
In a weird way, the time with her in the urgent care patient room was a blessing. This is the same daughter that I have been to hell and back with(see previous post about stress possibly causing my breast cancer). We got a little rummy waiting all that time for the doctor. We started blowing up exam gloves into balloons, and making hand puppets out of barf bags. It was so good to have that silly time with her, and laugh together. We haven't done that for a very long time.
Rabbit-I would love to be as organized about Christmas as you are. I always say I'm going to start early, but I never do.
Mary
-
WR, I have bought yarn and patterns for "Christmas gifts" but have not started knitting them yet. You are a model for me to get in gear.
-
I have all the materials for Christmas presents too but am now working on a flower girl dress for a wedding in 2 weeks. The things I get myself into!
I went to the Farmer's market and got, among other things, Niagara grapes. I had never seen them before and they are so good. (Similar to Concord grapes but white) I like them a lot better than Concord grapes. Reminds me of all the vineyards in Niagara Falls. I miss you guys.
My husband is now on my craft table framing pictures I got at the Ann Arbor Art Fairs this summer. I will have to wait a while to do any more sewing. He made me frames out of barn wood. There are three pictures and they are all of water falls. I think I might have bought them because it was 98 degrees and humid that day.
Today it got up to eighty! Warm for October.
-
This will be one of the warmest Thanksgiving weekends here on record, I think! Mid-seventies and humid air coming in overnight (from Texas, probably!).Thank you all for your good wishes -- not having turkey, but a lovely duck is in the oven, scalloped potatoes soon to go in, and baby carrots from the garden. And, I checked our brussels sprouts plants -- the little guys are less than 1/2 inch in diameter, so I guess they'll be ready by November. And we bought our last basket of fresh peaches last week (sob). But Rosemary, DH came home today with sweet, freshly picked white Niagara grapes, along with some purple ones!Hugs to everyone!
-
Happy Thanksgiving to all Canadians, including any of our relatives that maybe on here and I dont know, secret names and all. SUSIEQ-- why would Austrailians want a Canada Day? Many Prayers and Blessings to Chemosabi and her family. Love kad2kar
-
Sounds heavenly, Lindasa.
-
We don't have Thanksgiving is what I meant. We do have Australia Day in January but usually have bbq's to celebrate or do nothing

Might have to go out after all. I forgot, they're tearing up the road near us today to resurface it. We are far enough away for it not to be too bad noise wise, but this will go on at night all week - I pity the people that live right on it.
-
Happy Thanksgiving, neighbors! Enjoy good food, good friends and loving family around you! XOXOXO
L -
Happy Thanksgiving day to all the Canadians! Hope you enjoy the day.
-
Saw this great quote from Ken Burns' series on Prohibition: "Lutherans and Episcopalians drink openly and praise God in secret while Baptists and Methodists praise God openly and drink in secret."
I'm pouring drinks openly and secretly praying for all on bco.
Happy Thaksgiving to friends up North.
-
Looks like Cherryl poured too many good drinks and everybody wandered off to sleep it off!
So ... just to be an agitator ... how come you Canadians don't celebrate Thanksgiving when you are supposed to in November? Or were you first and we messed up the date? Or maybe there was a turkey shortage one year and you guys moved up the date so you could get them all? Or maybe you just like being contrary?
