Elevated Liver Enzyme
I am a newly diagnosed stage 3 girl. Already had masectomy ( bilateral) and will be starting chemo in a couple of weeks followed by radiation. I am a week and half out of surgery
Had full blood panel yesterday. One of my liver enzymes came back slightly elevated- ALT 71. normal range 0-45. All other livery enzymes normal.
Besides liver mets, how much can morphin ( for 2 days in hosp) e, oxycodone, valium, tylenol etc that I have been taking from sept 27th up to oct 4 have to do with that?
Scared to death of liver mets. Have my cat scan and bone scan next week . So scared I am already a stage 4, as I had a very very large tumor and over 6 nodes positive

luckypenny - drugs and inflammation can throw off your ALT. It is a fairly sensitive test. My husband started taking Glucosamine and Condroitin for joint pain, had a routine blood panel done and his ALT was 10 times normal, he stopped taking it and had a normal ALT 2 weeks later. I had a normal CA 27/29 (tumor marker) prior to chemo and then it was double high normal after chemo. I had a lot of inflammation from chemo, and had a lower result, although still above normal, two weeks later. Just repeated it yesterday but don't have the results back yet. Good luck!

Just so you know, when I was doing my chemo and Neupogen shots, a nurse told me one week to take Tylenol before the aches caused by Neupogen started, to control it. So for a couple of days, that week, I took Tylenol for my pain. The following week, for my blood tests before the next chemo, my liver enzymes were up! My onc asked me what I did to get them up like that and the only thing I had done differently that time was to take Tylenol. So he asked me to stop because Tylenol is hard on the liver. So I listen and did not take Tylenol anymore and the next blood test, my enzymes were back to normal. So yes I think that maybe the pain killers may be responsable for your liver enzymes going up. Hope that helps. Good luck with treatments.

luckypenny, my husband has liver mets (not breast cancer) and his ALT numbers are low-normal...just goes to show...I wouldn't worry.

awesome you guys are great. Without having the catscan and bone scan yet, I keep thinking the other shoe is going to drop. Thanks for the other opinions. I now feel less worried. How great is that?

I agree with these ladies. You just had surgery and have been on pain meds. I would not worry!
