Thanks for sharing that ABC News piece, Spring!
Kate, do you remember back when we first started this thread? The idea of dancing the night away was probably waaay beyond any of us! You've come a long way, and what could have been any more wonderful than dancing at your son's wedding?! So happy for you and your family!
Survivor, hope you're feeling better since your last post.
Crazydaisy, hope you had a lovely weekend with your sisters.
DH and I are leaving for about 9 days tomorrow. I won't have much computer access, but will check in if I get the chance. I'll look forward to getting back into a normal routine the end of next week, and hope I don't have to undo too much vaca "damage!" Take care all ~ Deanna
-
Deanna, that is so true. Thank you Hope you get a lot of walking time in on your vacation
I can't decide between strength training or jogging today. Which usually means yoga will win out
-
Yoga for me!
Today is Gentle Yoga.
Tomorrow is the more advanced class.
-
So I had a nice surprise this weekend, my younger DD came to town to surprise me! But I figured the surprise out Friday night, heehee DH can't keep a secret. I had both my DD's at home and their other halfs, we had the best time, played horseshoes, talked, laughed, danced, shopped and ate!
Then I went to my yoga class, the voucher I bought for one month of unlimited yoga...well...it was a HOT yoga studio - YUKKO in my opinion. I stayed the entire 90 minutes of gross, drippy sweat, but that isn't for me. I got a refund and will just have to try try try again...no walking yesterday or today, a coworker treated me to salad bar at Whole Foods both days, who am I to turn down a free lunch? heehee Babysitting after work tonight and tomorrow night so I have to get my butt in gear - thanks Spring for the ABC special reminder!!!!!!
Deanna, hope you post some pics on FB!
Survivor, worried about you...
Hugs to all, back to work now!
-
Hi Kari,
I will never do that hot yoga. I can't imagine the LE reaction! Sounds like a nice wkend!
Yoga was gentle and nice. Tomorrow the more serious stuff.
-
Hi everyone - getting ready to catch the ferry to isit my DS and future DD and girls. They are finally letting people on the island so I can get up there on the south end. North end still doesn't have a road. I'll be back Friday. Hope to catch some beach walking up there with the family. Got real chilly here at nights but warms up to the lower 70's during the day.
Spring talked to someone the other night and he wants to meet me. I've been solo for 3 years and now guys are coming out of the wookwork. We were going out to lunch on Sunday but he has a family obligation on Sunday and he apologized for 20 minutes. And begged for a rain check.
Off to walk my Dd and then we leave in 45 minutes. Will walk at each ferry dock (2) before loading. Have a great next few days.
-
Thank you Ladies for thinking about me. I am OK. Did not exercises until today b/c I have joint pain. Must be from the Herceptin. I did not have it before. And also, I am a bit down. My life at home is not too "joyous" at times. I went to see a new psychologist too last week and had to start from the beginning. It tore me to parts. I have been thinking about it ever since. Anyway.....tomorrow is another day and I am volunteering at the hospital at the health fair. That should make me feel better. I hope.
-
Almost forgot : biking to the gym and back AND doing a total body conditioning class.
-
Joy- Let us know what happens. How exciting that you go on dates! Cool!
-
I swear that hot yoga did something to me, haven't felt that great all week. Walked yesterday at lunch and did some gentle yoga both yesterday and this a.m.
Joy, I hope you enjoy your family and too funny about the men coming out of the woodwork. You must be glowing from all your working out and independence and confidence!!
Survivor, I can understand your being down. Digging down through all that emotional stuff is exhausting and can be depressing. Hang in there, glad you are seeing a psychologist to help you through it. Are joint aches a side effect of Herceptin? With your biking and exercise classes, you don't get much rest time. Don't overdo it please. So nice of you to volunteer, you really are a warrior!!

Just found this thread and am very excited about it. I have finished chemo, BMX, radiation, exchange surgery and then revision surgery. I have no more excuses not to get moving. As I was recovering from my revision surgery the week before last, I was contemplating how to get myself moving again (and eating better). Ironically I received a letter in the mail a couple days later for the ENERGY project for breast cancer survivors. It's a study about the effects of nutrition, exercise and weight loss and the potential effect on cancer reoccurence. So I'm jumping in with both feet. Did the clinic visit last week and was notified that I'm in the more intensive group (which is what I was hoping for ... more one on one help with nutrition, exercise program, etc). This study involved 960 women in four different locations across the US. Needless to say, I'm super excited. I think I've found my motivation! It starts October 13. Can't wait!
-
KSteve, welcome! It will be interesting to hear about the study you are in!
Joy, I had to laugh about guys coming out of the "Wood work"!!! Good for you! Let us know how it goes.
So yesterday was Yoga - very very good. Tonight after work we took a 1 hour bike ride. Got my tires well inflated first, and it was very different! Blow up your tires, Kari! It is so much easier to pedal without squishy tires! hehehe. Acutally, they can feel very hard and still be under inflated, this was the case for me...
Survivor - I totally understand that, rehashing everything. It an put you back on a bad spot for a while. Hopefully the new person will be good for you and so all that rehashing is worth it!
-
Go Joy!
Survivorwoman, sorry to hear things are rough right now. What a great job you did getting back into exercising in spite of it as soon as the herceptin let you.
Ksteve, thats great, an intensive program AND a chance to help women in the future through research
Deanna, Kari, Spring, think of you often, hope things are well
-
KSteve, that ENERGY project sounds really cool! I looked it up online, saw it at UCSD. You go girl, report back and keep us posted please after you get started next week.
Spring, duly noted about the aired up tires. Hoping to get back out on bikes this weekend as the weather will be back in the 70's.
Kate, thinking of you too!
Walked a bit at lunch yesterday, though there was a re-grand opening at our mall (a guy started a fire there last Oct. so most of it has been shut down and being rebuilt) and it was CHAOS! So finally walked outdoors last night for a change. Feeling really run down still though...hmmm, will take it easy tonight.
-
Had a good visit with the kids. Shadow and I walked on the beach before the kids got out of school and then I helped with homework. The kids got up at 5:45 am just to see me. It was DARK!!! I go back up next weekend to babysit. Can't wait! They are getting married 4/21/12.
Survivorwoman - are you taking anti depression meds? They put me on them and I can handle things a lot better. It is low dosage.
KSteve - keep us posted on what you find out. We are always interested on new info.
Kari - maybe the heat did you in. After being in the sun for a while I feel like crap. Don't over do it and enjoy the cooler air.
I'll keep ya posted when this dude calls for the raindate. Buffalo Wild Wings is donating to ACS and have tshirts for sale. $10 shirts and 5 goes to ACS. Working this afternoon. Everyone have a great weekend.
-
Saturday was a 50 minute bike ride. GREAT weather. Perfect! Not too cold, not too warm, just right! (Thank you Goldie-Locks!)
Today was something totally different. 10K walk (about 6+ miles) in a "Walk for Hope" through local state park. Gorgeous again! However! you walky girls, I am not used to so much walking! So my lower back was hurting I had to stop once for just a minute to bend over and pull knees to chest. That was okay then. But then!!! all the down hill, the tips of my toes were banging I guess into the front of my sneakers or someting, so my toe tips are so so so sore! ha ha ha! Also, I am so crampy from the tamoxifen in general, now I am having feet and calf cramps!
I am so hoping when I am able to stop this Tamoxifen that this cramping crap resolves!
Anyway, my hat is off to you ladies that do these long 2+ hour walks. I think we did 6 something miles in a little over 2 hours. No biking for me! Feet are up on the sofa surrounded by Dog and Cat!
-
Only one walk this weekend...still not sleeping and really BAD sore throat, turns out my DD, her husband and the baby ended up with bad colds (thanks to their friends), and I am trying to fight it, but I have a rager of a sore throat and feeling run down. Lots of fresh fruit/veggies and vit C!
Joy, that is so sweet that the girls woke up just to see you and that you get to spend more time with them this coming weekend!! And beach walks sound like heaven to me
Can't wait to hear about the raindate DUDE! heehee
Spring, 6 miles is A LOT, especially when you aren't used to it. That would do me in I'm afraid. My ankles/calves were killing me, everything and anything I do...I pay for it dearly in my feet and joints, Arimidex must be the culprit. We all must hang in there! I played at the mall and stayed out for 6 hours yesterday. I did get a call from my DD, they were going to the shopping center across from the mall for food and I met them out on the patio, so I got my baby time then. This week I don't have babysitting duty as the other granny is driving up tonight. But my low back and hip were hurting last night. I have to do some yoga tonight, just have to.
-
Today is a day of rest for me, I am still recovering from the 10K walk!. Also, tomorrow I am getting checked out for slight chest pains (they feel like pinches) but thought I better not take any chances after the adryamicin which can whack your heart. I know they will do a stress test, so I'm not stressing today! ha!
Kari, I hope you are fighting off the cold!!
Joy, any news about the raincheck date dude?
-
Walked yesterday at lunch, but not briskly, felt bad all day, so took it easy last night with lots of rest, a bit better today, fighting off this stupid cold!!
Spring, I'm with you as to not taking any chances with my heart, all that chemo toxicity - UGH! Let us know what happens today!!
How is everyone else doing?
-
Hello!
I lost my mother to breast cancer in December and only months later began working for Oncology Rehab Partners. If I knew then what I know now, my mother would have lived a much greater quality of life. You can and will feel better with rehab. Please check out our website www.oncrehab.com
Good luck!
-
Strengthening exercises for me yesterday, I'm groaning when I move this morning. That thrill of that still hasn't worn off. The myopathy after chemo was so bad for so long, I love being able to push it now.
-
Kate, I just went to the link you have in your signature line, what a beautiful song! Don't ever lose that thrill you spoke of, so happy you can push it now!
Walked yesterday and just now at lunch. Watched my sweet grandbaby girl last night and had such laughs. She loves when I hold her and dance...a girl after her grandma's heart!!
-
hey, I have been MIA for awhile... been too lazy to get out, and just can't get motivated...
But, today I went out for a run. I want to try to do something most every day. The problem is that is has been RAINING just about EVERY DAY!!
Hope everyone has a great weekend! I'll be in Florence, helping with the Strides walk.
Harley
-
45 elliptical Tues, 90 Yoga Weds, 45 ellliptical tonight! I almost skipped tonight so I'd have lots of juice tomorrow for a bike ride, and then hew NEWS had the nerve to talk about weight loss, diet, exercise and consistency, and that got me up there on the beast!
Good to see you Harley!
Laughing is good, Kari!! Joy and I did Laugh Yoga at the retreat in Aug, and it was a blast! Endorphins galore!
-
Sorry for not checking in more regularly. I was MIA like Harley. This new treatment I am doing is making me a bit sluggish. I try to be as active as I was during the summer, but I get tired a lot faster than before. But I do manage going to the gym every other day and I still ride my bike to work.
Spring -- endorphins galore??? -- So clever! I really want to try laughter yoga. I never got to do it. I think Gilda's club in NYC has it. I will check it out. I so need endorphins galore in my life.
Joy- I am not taking antidepressants. However, I know what's causing my depression--my failed marriage-- but can't change things right now. When I am not at home I feel great. The minute I walk through my front door I start crying.
Talk to you later ladies...I must run to work.
-
I'm sorry things are so tough for you at home Survivorwoman - I went through a divorce when my kids were young and it put me off marriage for a long time. I remember hearing that a bad marriage is like being in prison but you have to make your own meals -
- hope things get better for you soon - Ellie
-
I saw a news story on Laugh Yoga, I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face! That would be fun I think!! Good job on all the exercising.
Harley, good luck with the Strides Walk, and hope it stops raining soon for you.
Survivor, been thinking of you...so sad that you cry when you go home. I'm hoping things get resolved for you and you can feel good again. Stay Strong!
Ellie, thinking of you as you wind down the last few days with your son til he goes in the Air Force. Stay Strong!
I did yoga Wed night and my triceps are so sore, must have done something right
-
We did laughing yoga at our retreat and it was a blast!
Survivorwoman - I understand you a lot. I was given divorce papers between chemo and rads. Zoloft has helped me a lot. Home alone was the hardest and also holidays. But beleive it or not you are better off.
Haven't heard from "raindate" but he did say he would be busy for the next few weeks. Who knows! Went kayaking for 3 hours on Thursday. Beautiful day. Heading out Saturday after work and goiong to Hatteras to see my family and babysit the girls on Sunday night. I'll be back on Monday afternoon. Their wedding date is April 21, 2012. Yoga on Wednesday.
Hope all is great for everyone this weekend. I'll be back next week. More walks on the beach this weekend.
-
Hi everyone. Good exercise week. My LE therapist is happy with my progress, I have a SIL going through a bout of depression right now. Told DB my heart aches for her. It is so hard feeling unwell and having everyone look at you and think you look normal you should be able to power through it.
Survivor, I'm so impressed with what you are doing. All I can say is we're here to listen
Ellie, not sure how I missed DS going into the Air Force. Could you tell him thank you for me? I am very thankful for the young men and women who make the sacrifice and hard work needed to go into our miliatary and protect our country.
-
Kari, Joy and Kate - thank you for your kind words. Thank you all for letting me vent here.
I have a little bit of good news to tell you. Since I am getting Herceptin and not Tykerb, my hair has finally started to grow. I am so excited. You see, I finished chemo about 8 months ago and until now, I only had a little bit of fuzzy stuff. But since I stopped the clinical drug I feel that I am getting some real hair growing. Ah, I can't wait to ditch the wig. I so want my real hair back! What did you ladies do after chemo? Did you take supplements to grow it? I am taking biotin. I hope by the end of the year I will have real real real hair. Ahhhh!
I had a great workout tonight. 45 minutes on the elliptical. Then biking home with a lot of groceries up and down the hills of Brooklyn.
