copy cat any Mary's wanna do a Mary thread.
I'm sooooooo jealous of the Susan thread. Not only did I want to be named Susan.. (I was so jealous of Suzie across the street).. but it would be interesting to exchange middle names and see when we were born.

ROFL apple! I'm not a Mary, but close (and people who don't know better and can't read call me Mary sometimes).
Marie (not Mary or Maria thankyouverymuch)
-
You are hilarious!! I love it! I hope you get a lot of Marys! ... or Apples.
-
Apple- I am not a Mary, but have a Mary story. My grandmother's name was Mary Alma. She went to a one room school in Oklahoma. Out of 12 kids there were 3 Mary's. Her teacher called her Almy (why not Alma-she didn't know). Til the day she passed, she hated being called Almy. My brother and I would say it occasionally just to get a rise out of her!

Ruth MARY here!

Hi Apple!
My name is Mary!(and my best friend is named Sue). I have discovered that there are a lot of Marys in the field of education. There were 5 in my building at one time-right now I am the only one. No children at our school named Mary, though.

Oh..sorry...I didn't answer your 2 questions! My middle name is Ann and I was born in the 60's.
Apple-what is YOUR middle name?
Mary ANN

Magdalen... the story was that my dad named my middle name because he was a sinner, (not too bad tho). I came to find out in my mom's last weeks that when she was in the convent prior to marriage, she had chosen the name Mary Magdalena - Sister Mary Magdalena.. that would have suited her, but she never took her final vows.. She still acted like a nun tho, all thruout her life.
Born in '56/

I had 2 girl cousins my age, daughters of my mom's sisters, and they were named Mary too. Mary Rose and Mary Geralyn.. I was Mary Mag. It was fun to be together - we called each other Rose, Geralyn and Mag.... all about the same age too.
-
My mom was a teacher and I was named after her favorite student 'Ruth Mary'. My dad said my first name could be 'Ruth' and my middle name could be 'Mary', but he didn't want a child with two first names!
-
My name is Marie Lucille after my Grandmom who was Mary Lucy. So, in a way, I am a Mary

I was born in '63.
-
One of my good friends is Mary. And she named her daughter Susan.

-
I have a terrific cousin named Susan. A grandmother and aunt both named Mary, and my mom's middle name was Marie.
-
Apple--------George M Cohan wrote the song Mary for his wife, The movie is quite endearing Can't think of the leads name so will edit if I remember. DUH hate memory loss. But love you babe
-
I certainly know of the song.. Everyone used to sing it at me when I was young.. it's funny how music slips out of our consciousness as years pass. I haven't thought of that song forever.

this will be a slow growing thread.

My middle name is Maria, I was named after my godmother... does that count as Mary?
I was born in mid 70's:)
-
Okay....So my name is a derivative of Mary (It's included in Ruth's list of Mary names) and my sister's name is Susan...and I'm also jealous that she got the name Susan and I didn't! I guess you can say that's why I'm "bitter." My name is VERY unusual and people never pronounce it correctly or spell it correctly! Years ago, when I realized my name meant "bitterness," I was ready to strangle my mother for naming me it!
Nowadays, with the invention of the internet, I don't have to say my name or spell my name and can live vicariously with the name "voraciousreader," or "VR" to my friends, and NEVER have to correct people with the spelling or pronunciation! I feel liberated, but, oh how I wish I were named SUSAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW...she HATES when people call her "Suzie." She was our father's "Suzie" and NOBODY elses! -
Miriam?
-
Close, Apple, but no cigar. It does start with the letter "M."
-
I was amazed to see on Ruth's list that Polly is a version of Mary. How is that?
My grandmother was named Mayme-I knew that was a nickname of Mary.
Mary
-
YramAl...
"Polly" is a nickname for Mary, which was derived from another nickname for Mary, Molly. It is sometimes used as a name in its own right."
I knew that Polly was a nickname for Mary because my mother knew that both names were derived from Mary and she needed a middle name with the letter P and chose some other name instead that I don't even use because it is THAT awful! Even my kids think my middle name is awful. My sister Susan lucked out with a beautiful middle name too! I guess by the time I came along, my mother had used up the pretty names.....
I think I would have been much happier with the name Polly and then we could have called it a day. Easy to say, easy to spell, easy to remember! -
my husband's siblings and their middle names.

Mary Katherine here - born 69.
I was supposed to be Mary Sandra (dads name Sanford) but when he left the room, my mom changed it to Mary Katherine (her name Katherine). For some reason Mary Katherine is my first name and I have no middle name (which is silly) and I was called Mary Kay or Mary Kate my whole childhood - not a fan!
And my aunt was Miriam. FYI
ps - I have two daughters , neither named Mary
-
I remember a family when I was growing up that had 2 daughters named Mary. Yes, they were Catholic, but don't you think there were a few other names they could have chosen from?
Mary
-
In the evening when I was growing up, our good Catholic Italian neighbor lady would yell out the door (in one breath), "Roger, Billy, Monica, Betty, Debbie, Theresa, Denise, Bernadette, Dominic, time for bed! Not a Mary amongst them!
-
Ok all you Marys out there-I see the Susans thread is active again......
How are all of you?
Mary
-
Lol Mary
-
Still jealous that my sister got the name Susan!
