I just made the banana bread... using two recipes and kinda made up as I went. Used almond flour, quinoa flour and reg. Added walnuts. How long does baking soda stay good?? I used some that was "old" so hope the bread doesn't end up flat. Embarassed

It cleared off yesterday afternoon long enough to mow the grass so I did that instead of cleaning the garage. (rained later) Still haven't put the jumpy, round baby seat in the attic. Can't figure out how to take it apart. Guess I'll have to ask DD.

Visited my parents this weekend, and Mom had a bunch of boxes that I've promised her I'd go through ready for my inspection. I did manage to throw out some souvenirs from a Girl Scout trip I took in HS (each participant had to make a trinket related to their home town or state, etc. I kept the Mt. St. Helens ash but dumped the bookmarks and wheat wreathes). I did have trouble getting rid of (don't laugh!!!) my old HS and college notes. They are so darned orderly and neat! Maybe someday I'll want to review the Russian tsars.....

The hard part was the box of greeting cards. I had already gone through it a while back and these are the ones that 'mean' something - cards from relatives who have passed, my 16th birthday, ex-boyfriends. Of course it got me all sentimental about the 'could have been.' I threw 2 out and told my Mom the rest would have to wait for later.

But I'm making progress on the home front. Magazines are getting tossed one by one and I got rid of the old PC tower that was taking up space.

i soo understand about the cards.. i put them in my library in the computer, then a flash drive; delete from computer. so, they're there whenever i want to see them, and i still made tons of room. in the house, AND in the computer.......3jays

Teka, I'm like you.  Greeting cards never moved me but maybe it's because I just didn't get any that were really "special".  Cry

I pulled a few more items out of the closet and also went through my shoe closet and pulled some of them out also.  Went online and booked a pickup with Lupus Foundation and they will come Thursday so I need to get a few bags ready for them, so, yes, making headway.

Patoo, what a great idea giving to a different org. I didn't realize you could go online to find them.

Windlass, Thanks for the information.  I love books.

I have 8 apple boxes of books in the garage which are part of the final pile of stuff to clear out. I've already gotten rid of several boxes of books!  I'm going to have one big bookcase in the house and then if one comes in that I can't part with I'm going to have to find one to give away.  I'm trying to practice the art of 1 in 1 out.  Those books in the apple boxes aren't doing anybody any good. It is so hard to part with our stuff and things.  I looked through my 40 pairs of shoes and got rid of 2 so far.  Still room for progress.

Kindle is very convenient but lots of people not only like to touch books but also to lend or trade with others.  If I have a great book and want to loan it out I have to loan my Kindle - not happening.

Went through my den tonight and have three bags so far for pickup Thursday and another bunch of stuff that I am starting to put together to take over to Goodwill.

Teka - I need to get up and go with all this stuff that is just driving me nuts!

Samsue - yes, some organizations now have a convenient way to schedule pick-ups online and so you have to get it together.   You don't even have to be home because you just tell them where you will leave it, like along the driveway, on front steps, back porch, whatever.

Teka & Patoo: Yes, I have thought about a kindle. Still thinking. Don't know what to do. I did just read The Help in hardback, which someone loaned to me. Isn't it fun to be able to loan someone a book?  Most of the books I want to keep are reference books such as a world atlas, dictionary (I know silly, but my Mom gave it to me),Cat & Dog books with pictures about the breeds, religious books, books that I want to refer back to.  I've had them so long, I know where all the information is.  Now for the other books, old sy-fy, old romance, old books in general.  Well, I'll probably take them to the used book store we have here in town.  Then I get store credit and can buy more, guess what?, books.! I guess I need a basket or something to keep the non-keepers in.

Do any of you have a system for incoming and outgoing books? Anybody else want to weigh in on the kindle?

I love my Kindle but absolutely understand others who love the feel of a book.

Teka, are you saying my Kindle doesn't smell good????? Laughing That's okay, I can read it by a scented candle and it will be divine (esp if there's wine next to the candle!)

Well, 3 large bags and a few other articles went out today.  Allergies attacking me so nothing getting done tonight but the weekend looms.

well, hot and cold; i have a basket by my front door, full of books to go back to the 2nd hand bookstore near us... i love so many different kinds, and they have MOST of them... its a joy to go, and now its' cheap, cause my DH mur, and i read constantly.. i find the system works well.. my problem is; i have to buy a series, if it comes in them. and , many of my authors write that way Christine Feehan; Laurell Hamilton " paranormal love stories, if ya can believe it.. the most $$ i spend is to order the old ones in the series, either with amazon; or thru barnes and nobles, who doesn't charge to get it to their store (close by) and i pay like 8$ then, i take it to the 2nd hand store, and get 3.50 credit.. and on, and on...as long as they go out of the basket, we;re alright, though.........3jays

If you have tons of books to donate or give away and do not remember if you read them or not - pick a page (like the date of your birthday (easy to remember...) and write or print your initials in the corner.   This way if a book looks interesting and you can't remember if you read it, check the page.

It's nearly the weekend and I'm here trying to get inspired... If it's cooler, and I'm really hoping it is and it's not raining, which I think is in the forecast. I'm working in my garage! It should take me all day to get things sorted and what's not needed tossed out. My washer/dryer is in the garage so I can also take care of the lint and dust from that too.

Teka, please send some of it here! It looks like we're going to have a boomerang weekend with the cooler front that went thru the beginning of the week coming back on us as a tropical wave! Longing for cooler temps. It sounds really neat to be pulling carrots! I had a container "garden" with tomatoes, bell peppers and one miserable squash plant. It's about time I can put the tomato plants in again... they'll be ready by the end of Nov for harvest.

Ladies, I just started cleaning out my cabinets.  I bought new Rubbermaid plastics without BPA's that might cause cancer.  I googled to find that any plastics marked with #7 or #3 should be thrown out.  You will find the numbers in the recycle triangle on the bottom.  Stay safe....

If you cannot bear to throw out those BPA plastic containers, try using them for things like paper clips, sewing supplies (buttons -- different colors in different containers), nails, nuts and bolts, screws, thumb tacks, etc, etc.     Or use them as drawer dividers to organize kitchen or dresser drawers, or that drawer in the bathroom....
