Monitoring for dense breasts

This isn't unique to young women but I wasn't sure where else to put this --

I just had my first post-treatment mamogram. The detailed results say, "Tissue density approximately 60-80%, heterogeneously dense category."

The plan is for me to have mamograms and breast MRI, staggered every 6 months. Is this similar to what others do?

I was pregnant when I was dx'd so I've never had an MRI or PET scan or anything.  My 2.5 centimeter tumor wasn't visible on the mamogram I had before surgery (granted I was pregnant) so I feel like I can't trust the mamogram.  And it's bugging me!  Should I be asking for something else?  Or just calm down and wait six months for my breast MRI?

My cancer also didn't show up on a mammogram.  I found the lump.

I'm three years out, and get a mammogram every year, and an MRI every year six months later.   I'm told that hormonal treatment tends to make the breasts less dense, so that mammograms are easier to read.  I"m still waiting...

Anyway, you can relax and know you are getting the standard of care.

I also have extremely dense breasts and my cancer was not evident with mammogram.  I agree you are getting standard of care with alternating mammo and MRI.  I chose to do ultrasound instead of MRI because I had a lot of false positives with MRI.  I also alternate every 6 months.

I also have dense breast and cancer was not found on mammo or was it palpable.  Found accidentily on MRI looking at something else.  So yearly mammo and yearly MRI alternating every six months is the recomendation but my MRI's are way to expensive so I told MO i would settle for a mammo and US.  Next step is getting a BMX because I am tired of this roller coaster that will never end.
