Laurie - can't wait to see you tomorrow. No dress code, you'll see people dressed up (especially because it's Sunday "after church") and you'll see people in jeans.  Be comfy!  And yes 12:45.  We are planning on arriving a little early to walk around in the gift shop.

    I'm going up early tonight.

    Ladies:

I just discovered your wonderful thread earlier this week.  Since I'm a computer dinosaur - can anyone help?  I want to go back & read all from the beginning & have been doing a little every day.  Now the site keeps opening at the last page (98) when selected from my favorites.  I tried deleting from favs & re-selecting.  No luck.  Is there any way to choose the page you want to go to w/o going back to "1" or up to "98" and moving by twos & threes up or back to where I am?

    Thanks

Minus Two - welcome, welcome!!!  I think I understand your question, and I have a suggestion for you to try:

When you want to access this thread, approach it from "My Home" and it should be in the list of your favorite threads.  I think it will show you the "unread" posts and when you click on the thread, it SHOULD take you to where you left off.  I hope this works because this is one long discussion thread and I haven't figured out how to go to a specific page.  Perhaps it's something we should suggest to the moderators!

I went to bed at 9:30 last night and I was asleep at 9:35...lol!  Very uncharacteristic for me.  Of course, that meant I was awake at 5 a.m....boo, hiss!  So I am drinking my coffee and catching up on The X-Factor, which DH doesn't like.  It's background noise while I catch up on all the good stuff on this site!

I don't think we are going to have a "lovely" weather day for our excursion to Pickity Place.  It's going to be damp, 60% chance of showers and about 60 degrees.  But I am 100% sure that the companionship, conversation and food will more than compensate.  DH is supposed to play golf with JoyceK's DH but they may get rained out.  I'm sure they'll figure out something else to do.  They can strategize over golf courses to play when we meet up with them in Florida later this month.

Just checking in before I jump in the shower to get ready. Thanks for the reminder about the umbrella, Debbie. Looks like it's going to be a bit chilly too. But It's still going to be a wonderful day.

    Hauntie.. especially for you.

My mother in law made this awesome very light, cucumber, onion and tomatoe salad.

She'd slice the vegetable and put a big spoonful of mayo in a bowl and add vinegar, fresh spices and milk to the mayo.. it would thicken a bit (i guess the milk and vinegar were working together on this).  Made with fresh oregano.. it is awesome.  i love olive oil too.

Great day at pickety place ladies!  We are totally rained in...have a river going down our backyard.   My DH and I with best friends have plans to stay in and watch the buffalo bills play today...hmmmm and maybe drink a little wine.  We put up 18 quarts of salsa yesterday...what a blast.. all us women cutting and gossiping in the kitchen.  My dear friend brought her 97 year old mom and she got right in on the gossip and her opions on men and relationships...tooo funny!!

Apple  I do something similar using sour cream and chives, but i also love the oil and vinegar (or italian dsg)  its alll good.

I made omelets for breakfast with the homemade salsa and sour cream on top, my DH favorite....and yes I am buttering him up..need some help in the house today.

bedo, everyone in my family, except me, is a big fan of Indian food.  My tastes have changed so much since chemo though, I have to give it another try.  Hope you enjoyed yours and hope you enjoy your dinner with friend tonight!

Here we are!  From the left, Deborye, then Hauntie standing over her shoulder, Laurie, me, and Joycek

Facebook says this is a public link and anyone should be able to see all the pictures:

The food was fabulous, the company was even better, and we have to do it again.  And Deb, you are just too funny! I know another Deb and I swear you are her twin, at least humor-wise!!!

And oh, "Miss Deborye" is celebrating not just a birthday, but a "landmark" birthday on Thursday!

Here are a few other pictures in case the link doesn't work:

Not sure what happened here.  Laurie and Joyce heard my countdown but Lynda and Deb must have seen something more interesting...lol

And Debbie - were your ears burning?

Pickety Place was wonderful and meeting everyone there was amazing.  I really enjoyed meeting everyone face to face and getting to know each other a little more.  The food was just the right portion size and very very yummy.  I still can't believe I had never heard of the place before?  Thank you ladies for such a nice get together!

My DH ended up doing pretty well all on his own.  BOTH boys took a nap, he took them out to lunch first and it sounds like they had a lot of fun.  When I came home they were all piled on the couch together watching Nascar and quite content.  Success!  Dinner is going to be whatever someone grabs.  I'm still not hungry so no big dinner tonight.

Speaking of chili...this is in my fridge:

I make mine using an old Pillsbury Family Cookbook recipe from the late 60's.  I have a few modifications, so I'll share.

2 pounds ground beef - I use really lean, like 93%

1/2 pound Mexican beef chorizo - sometimes hard to find, but look where they keep the brats and other sausages.  It comes in a plastic sleeve.  In Kansas City and maybe other areas (but not here) you can buy it in bulk in the butcher shop area.

    2 onions, sliced

5 16 ounce cans tomatoes. Use the kind you like, I use a mix of the ones with basil, garlic and oregano and the ones with jalapenos.

    1 tablespoon salt

    1 tablespoon dry mustard

    2 tablespoons chili powder

    2 teaspoons cocoa powder

    2 small cloves garlic

2 cans red kidney beans, drained

Brown all the meat with the onions, then add all the rest of the ingredients and simmer for a couple of hours.  Add the kidney beans and simmer for another 30 minutes.  Yes, it makes a really big pot!  Don't skip the cocoa powder, it's my secret ingredient  Wink

good luck Patriots  My Bills had their first loss today...bummer!

My DH and I are not big on the beans in chili so I add like 1/2 a can and substitute corn.  I have to remember the chorizo though and the cocoa powder.

That chilli looks good!  I was looking for a good chilli recipe.  Great pics!  I'm glad everyone had a wonderful time.  I had the pleasure of meeting Hauntie (my surgery buddy!) in NJ with ChrissyB and a couple of other women from the boards, so I understand how fun htat can be.

Had whole wheat rotinin and meatballs and a salad for dinner.

Enjoy your Sunday night everyone.  I have an appointment with my PS tomorrow and also a simulation for rads.  I hope the ps gives the okay for rads to start.  The sooner you start, the sooner you're finished, right?

Okay girls, I am coming out of hiding! I have been reading this thread for awhile now and have enjoyed the shared recipes as well as shared stories. After seeing the pic of your luncheon at Pickety Place I just couldn't hide any longer! Smile   I just love when we are able to meet each other in real life after sharing such a bond online through bc.org.  This is a terrific group of ladies and I appreciate this thread very much.

I also made chili, however, I use a McCormacks seasoning packet, ground beef, ranch style beans and tomato sauce. I'd prefer to use diced tomatoes, but the DH is picky picky. Smile It is done from start to finish in about 20 minutes. I was going to make cornbread, but the date on the package was June 2010! Yikes! So chili with shredded cheese, sour cream and diced onions will have to do. I am really loving our fall-like weather here in Nor Cal today...

Great time at Pickety Place today. Good food and great company. The only problem was, with the set seating times, there's no time to linger and chat. Did you notice, we were the last ones to leave the dinng room? I'd love to go back in the spring when the weather's warmer and the flowers are blooming.

On the ride home I told Michelle and Joyce about this top 10 list my brother and sister-in-law came up with to try to ease the pain of me having to part with my long french braid. I couldn't remember all the things on it. It did help to put the temporary hair loss from chemo in perspective.

Ten Good Things About Temporary Hair Loss
    10. Your drains won't clog. (sink not surgery Smile)
      9.  No one will know you're going gray.
      8. Money saved on shampoo, brushes, and elastics can be used for the
    slot machines.
      7. You can get an all over tan.
      6. There's no place for bats to land.
      5. You can sell it to Hair Club for Men (see reason 8).
      4. You can get a much better phrenology reading.
      3. You can make it through airports unaccosted by Hari Krishnas,
because they'll think you're one of them.
      2. It will grow back.
*1. Nicholas will know his Auntie Lynda because of big hugs, rather
    than old photographs.

Nicholas is my nephew and my only Godchild. He was the first baby born into our family in a long, long time. He was 10 months old when I was diagnosed. The second question I asked my BS, after she gave me the news, was "will I live long enough for Nicholas to remember me." He graduates from high school in June.

Thanks again, for a lovely afternoon ladies. Count me in for any other gatherings in our area.
