    Sunflowers, I'd say LOBOTOMY!  HAHA!

Was just feeling a bit nauseous.  Better now that I turned it down.  I'm in my 5th year of hormonals too!

Good morning ... oops afternoon to everyone!

Just got back from my PCP and I've lost 15 lbs.  I'm so happy.  I'm back to the weight I was 4 1/2 years ago when I got cancer.  Still need to lose another 20lb ... but I guess it just takes time.  I had a breast exam too.  I don't know why it still hurts so bad on the cancer side after all these years.

We have the kind of weather Athena loves today.  Cool and overcast ... just wish it would warm up a little.

Sunflowers ... my balance was so negatively affected by the Arimidex that I quit taking it.  The vertigo was too much for me.  Kudos to you and Blue for sticking with it all these years!

Athena .. hoping we hear some good news from you today.

Susie .. hope you're feeling better.

Barbara .. I sure do understand how you feel.  I'm keeping everything crossed for you.  Feeling discouraged really sucks .. and that's how I feel about my job today.

Blue .. sounds like the adjustments are working for you.  I'm so impatient ... I want the results now, not next week.

I better keep the laundry going and work on my marketing.

    hugs to all,

    Bren

Sunflowers -- Glad to hear that acupuncture worked well for you.  I've had 3 tx and hoping to get 3 more in before we go away in a couple of weeks.  I really don't want to have to take an unconcealed weapon (a cane!) on the plane with me!

Athena -- looking to hear good news about your MRI.  Waiting for results (as we ALL know!) is the pits.

    Hugs to everyone!

The kitty is home. Now they say it was just a nasty UTI. I feel bad that we did not catch it sooner but we attributed all of her hiding and not eating to having a new cat. If only she had used her words!

The vertigo from Femara was unbearable.

Linda - I always keep one of the "folding metal canes" in my car.  Just in case.  Do you get the needles in and all around your knees????  I hope they help you.  It took several weeks for me, now I only go once a month.  Good luck!  And the folding metal canes come in wonderful colors, flowers ;)

I am pleased to report that the MRI did indeed show nothing of consequence. I am surprised at how relieved I feel - didn't realize how apprehensive I was. I have a history of smoking and breast cancer, so was delighted to have the doc say, amongst other things, that he found my ovaries to be in nice shape.

He recommended minor surgery to get rid of awful period symptoms and also to remove a polyp, so I will have that in the next several weeks. Outpatient, quickie procedure - nothing to it. The procedure to stop my periods from being such curses on my existence is called an endometrial ablation and takes a few minutes. They shoot radio frequency signals into your uterus - I suppose it is like cauterization. Worst case scenario: nothing happens, I get no relief, but then we can try hormones (which is his last choice option for me, understandably). In any case, even if the surgery fails it won't be a waste of time, as I am having the other thing removed at the same time.

I am still making the final decision, but I'm 99 percent sure it is a go for me.

I always, always prefer surgery to a chemical solution. I would still be able to conceive, but not carry, a child. This doesn't really matter. I am not planning to have children anyway, but it's still slightly unsettling to know that my capacity to produce cubs could be compromised. Still, it's worth it. The surgery may be successful and may have positive consequences on my QOL.

For the past years, I have had a progressively worse time with my periods because of a cascading series of events: heavy bleeding leading to low energy, leading to lots of naproxen sodium and ibuprofin, leading to more fatigue, effects on mood and motivation, and therefore very bad effects on my comorbidity, and also a situation that causes me to suffer additional side effects from my usual meds (for example, the naproxen sodium causes lithium levels to rise in my body). So this partial, surgical solution may actually stop the cascade effect that makes me lose so much of my life every bloody month - pun intended! :-)

Phew....still alive to roar another day. I had a big bag with me - hope you were all comfortable.

Toast to all, and may the BCO B&G be extra full tonight.

Now, to catch up with reading the thread over the last 24 hours.

Here's to a peaceful Friday (wine glass).

    Great news Athena!!!

Blue - take it easy turning up your frequency.

Had a good sleep and feel fine today - I'm not in a hurry to rush off to the supermarket.

I want a folding cane - I sure need it. I don't think acupuncture would make my knees any better - not much cartilage in one.

Still trying to decide if I will apply for that better job at work. I think I should, then I won't regret it later. Told my team leader I was thinking of it and he said he would support me if I decide to. I should have done it yesterday, but forgot to send my resume to my work email. It doesn't close until Monday afternoon, so I can do it over the weekend.

The monthly farmers markets are on tomorrow!! Can't wait to get some fresh fish and bananas. It's ridiculous how much they still are in the fruit shop - the cyclone was ages ago. I reckon they're capitalising on it. In the UK, they were dirt cheap and we're paying $12 a kilo!! I made sure I ate lots while we were there.

Time for breakfast - don't know how a pina colada would go with toast :)

Where has everybody gone??  Off having wild parties??

Glad to see that the kitty is home, Athena's MRI is over with and found a whole bunch of nothing, and that blue is getting tuned up slowly but surely.

Went to Target today.  Saw Halloween 'stuff' - mixed with Thanksgiving 'stuff' - alongside Christmas 'stuff' already.   Yeesh ... I have decided that I am going to smush all my holiday celebrations together and just pick a single date for all of them.  So ...

                 Happy Everything!!

Happy Chrismakwanzukkah Valengiving of July!  One of my favorite holidays.

Yay for Athena!  Not yay for the procedures, of course, but glad that your ovaries aren't diseased in any way.  *huge sigh of relief*

Rosemary - so glad they figured out what was wrong with Bobba!  Here's hoping she's right as rain in just a few days.

Continuing hugs to Blue, who deals with so much with effortless grace and good humor.

Hugs to all, and hope we're all enjoying crispy cool weather!

How do all of you deal? Athena O Great Lioness, I had my parts removed lock, stock, and barrel when I was 44 for me it was HEAVEN. Since the age of 12 every period was pure hell. My husband used to say {when we were just GF&BF] my period was 28 on and 7 off. Hated making plans for anything cuz---you guessed it,my big friend came along. The before our wedding I was on,stopped Friday, married Saturday started again Wednesday nite in NoCalifornia. Try driving hundreds of miles along the Beautiful Hiway 1 along the coast of California with a freezing, hot  bleeding teenager in the car. When we finally got home I took a pain pill, along the with Canadian tea [and booze my FatherinLove put in the tea]. Thats pretty much the way things were from age 10 to 44. Now my other girl parts are gone. WHY AM I ON ARIMIDEX.  Bluest of Dahlias, I sincerely hope this is working for you. I dont understand about Tune-ups, but one day when you are feeling up to it maybe you could explain to the old, newbies. LOVE to all. HAVEN is on. kad2kar

    Happy apple picking, Blue.

Athena - I was hoping for simple, and simple it sounds - I am OLD, so somebody else will have to chime in & tell me what it's called now - but when I had polyps removed, in the doc's office - she called it a D&C.  Does it have a different name now???  Local anesthetic, "scrape, scrape, scrape" - and I could sell my stock in Tampax!!!!!  Made that time of the month bearable, I cold leave the house without what felt like a truck load of supplies ;)  Hope same is true for you, ROAR, ROAR, ROAR!

Ok.  I know you guys have heard enough about the RAIN, but really.  No way to describe what is happening here.  And more on the way today.  When little sungold tomatoes, and tomatillos are splitting when GREEN on the vine, this is a lotta watah!

Also, everything in the Gazette section, coupons, of the local paper, has turned PINK.  I am so tired of being asked to click, click, click, "spread the word", we KNOW WE KNOW - it's time for all this $$$$ to go for a cure.  Ok, rant over.Smile

I LOVE LOVE LOVE WR's symbol - but did ou include Grond Hog's Day. Pauxatawny Phil is one of my favorites.

Happy today to all - I'm off to learning more about Botanical Art.  Hope all are well, feeling good, and DRY ;)  Well, not my friends in Texas, they want this water...alas.

Boy, Barbara, the Rays took the Redsox to the cleaners.  Sox finished the season 7 wins and 20 losses.  Wow.

The Rays deserve their shot at the pennant coming up in September from 9 games behind.  Sad to say, Sox got what they deserved.

Hope the Rays win the World Series. Great team.

Enjoy the game Monday.  I'll be looking for ya from my couch.

    God bless us all.

    Good morning everyone!

Athena -- so glad to hear good results on the MRI, but I really feel for you with your periods.  I was like that as a teenager -- actually fainted from pain in the Principal's office once while waiting for the school nurse to be called.  I still remember people leaning over me and asking "What's wrong?"  Like I'd tell them???  Not in those days....

Rosemary -- happy to hear Bobba's ailment is treatable and she'll soon be eating (and peeing!) with a smile on her face again!

Today is cool, cloudy, rainy and really windy -- not a great day for a walk, eh Sandy!  But I'm off to my local Shoppers Drug Mart to  see the display of a quilt I donated to raise funds for Wellspring, a cancer support org here in the great white north.  Actually, the quilt has a bit of a story:  the quilt top (Dresden plate pattern) was sewn entirely by hand by my aunt in Columbus OH.  She gave it to me after I was married.  It sat in a drawer for many years, mostly because it was double and I only had queen beds.  When we moved to NOTL, I discovered a lovely group of young ladies who took on quilting projects for charity.  They added a 12-inch border to make the quilt queen-size, quilted it beautifully (very intricate) over several weeks, and then asked me for permission to donate it to Wellspring.  Well, of course!  So, I'll take a pic and try to post it here for you to see.

Lindasa......That is very generous of you to donate the quilt. It sounds beautiful!....Blue, what types of apples are you going for, pies, dunkers, caramel or just really good and yummy?......Athena, Im also happy for you that it turned out relatively good. Are you sure though the MRI wasnt picking up all the travel companions? Bren.....dont forget to post your shiny floors, will they look like Blue's or Californian? Sunflowers....my paper had a pink section, also.  DONT FORGET THIS IS CANCER AWARENESS MONTH, in case no one gives a think about cancer.     kad2kar

I love quilts and tried my hand at it when we were marooned on a Tennessee Mountain Top (for five long years) - not my craft apparently - so sweet of you to donate it to Wellspring - look forward to seeing the picture Linda.

Maureen, too bad about the Red Sux...I mean Sox. We hate them almost as much as the Yankees.

Linda, looking forward to the picture! I am dreadful at any type of sewing. I can actually crochet and like it. Speaking of which, I need to get some yarn for my cruise, since I will be lounging around.

    Hi Everybody!

It's cold today .. barely 53 degrees out.  And I had to mow in this weather.  Tim is home and I needed his help to jump start the battery in the mower.  Couldn't do it myself.  So off I went in this freezing wind and overcast cold weather.  I got three fields done and called it quits.

Tim got home late yesterday and has to leave in an hour for a trip to Florida.  Yay for the miles, but sad cause he wasn't even home 24-hours.

Linda .. the quilt sounds so beautiful.  Looking forward to seeing a picture of it.

Athena .. glad your test turned out well .. I know you are loving this weather!

Kad2kar .. haven't started on my floor project yet.  The machine is so heavy, I have to wait for help to get it in and out of the truck.

Barbara .. I like to crochet too, but haven't for a while.  I was making squares for the afghan project the ladies here on BCO started.

    Welcome Redsoxfan!

I need to help Tim get things together.  Hope everyone is having a good day.

    hugs,

    Bren

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Oh, my gosh.  Periods.  I was just musing the other day how contented I am that I no longer have to deal with menstrual periods.  I had the periods from H*LL:  unpredictable schedule, horrible (truly debilitating) cramps, massive flooding.  The rough stuff began in my mid-teens -- having to go to the nurse's office to curl up on a sofa; fretting about inevitable leakage; trying to control the cramps with aspirin... But, as I got into my 40's, the approximately monthly schedule turned into 8 days on and 13 days off, and the flooding worsened.  (My dh and I actually called it a "flood".)

I was not sad even a little bit when things tapered off and then simply quit.  That was 8 years ago.  Wow.  I finally tossed all my corks and emergency supplies last year.

Athena, it's such a relief to get an "all clear," yes?

Our day is sunny and cool, with a moderate breeze.  Perfect weather for fall, and for college football games.  Too bad I'll be watching ours on TV this afternoon.  We are home now, after more than 8 weeks on the road.  It's nice.

Hey, otter, welcome back. I am sure you are glad to be home sweet home. I hope this means that you have dealt with the most important logistical errands that came up as a result of your mother's passing.

Bren - you complain of mowing in THIS weather? I admire you immensely for mowing during the summer. Talk about each to his own - lol! Hope Mr. Tim gets more hours. The sluggish economy probably affects truck drivers a lot.

(((Sunflowers))) - you are too funny. Oh, yes, awful periods. The bane of my existence. I suppose it did end up being a good idea to go to Johns Hopkins after all.

Susie, I hope your application gets in on time for you to be considered - is that the same job you mentioned that involved travel to Shanghai?

Barbara, I'm still holding out hope. My cousin's wife, who is top management at a very large company, says that final hiring decisions are always dragged out. Enjoy your sports. Sorry that you team was beaten (not even sure what the sport is - Redsox is baseball? (Ducking for cover because I realize that certain forms of ignorance in this country are truly criminal in the minds of many).

Blue, happy apple picking - hope you find some gems, and I hope your adjustment is showing some success. The weather we are having here is perfect for apple picking. I am just enjoying the leaves on the ground, though.

Lindasa - can't sew/stitch/quilt etc... to save my live. Too much of a spastic with my hands. I would love to see a picture - it sounds like a very special piece. Does it make you a bit sad to see it go.

Now for the sarcasm corner: Oh, happy pink October everyone. I saw an article in Marie Claire magazine (I know - don't ask what I was doing there) about how the pink movement has been co-opted by con artists, opportunists, etc.... Not that it's a surprise. After all this pink ribbon crap kitsch and no cure, one really begins to wonder.

Waving at HL - How are you feeling about returning to work? Hope you are feeling less tired these days.

Yikes. period talk. Mine were always fairly heavy until I hit perimenopause. Then I found out what heavy was andI had always been borderline anemic or worse but not since they stopped Anymore detail would just be gross. The old days weren't all good.

I am excited. I went to the Farmer's Market and found out that for the first time they will be open in the winter this year. So now I can get meat this winter and not have to just hope my friend has some left when she butchers her cattle

I got, among other things, brussels sprouts on the stem, stalk whatever it is so that's kind of fun.

Then I went to my daughter's house and helped her pick up which mostly meant sitting on the floor going through the kid's junk. I just wnated to pitch it all but would have been run out of town by a crowd of angry grandchildren. They may even have had pitchforks to chase me with somewhere in that mess.

I Got in my car and the tendon in my upper inner thigh was really painful (I assume it was the tendon). I have had problems with it for a few days and was going to baby it today but my daughter's house just got to me and I had to help her clean. Trust me I usually don't do that I  guess I won't do it again for a while.

So here I sit with my laptop trying not to do all he things that are screaming at me t get done. It is truly my own fault.
