DCIS -recurrence?

Options

Had DCIS 10 yrs ago, had mastectomy.  No chemo or rads, was doing great!  Three years ago, had silicone implant put in-no probs with that!  I am very healthy (eat well, exercise, etc).  Over a week ago, got a red pimple-type thing right on mastectomy scar.  It will not go away, and looks worse.  I get terrible sinus (?) headaches on that side, and have been feeling really tired lately.   Am waiting to hear back from the doctor's office.  Any advice would be super appreciated-THANKS!!

Thanks so much for your help, everyone.  I am so underwhelmed, to say the least. Not one word from anyone-

Well I'm not sure if I will be of much help here but I wanted to respond as you haven't got any responses yet Smile. I just met with my surgeon and she told me that a recurrence can appear as a mosquito looking bite on the mastectomy scar. I think this would be highly unusual for you to have a recurrence as it has been 10 years and you had DCIS.  It would be quite rare but I suppose it's possible. But again, very rare.  How long has this red pimple thing been there?  I hope it is nothing and that you get good news soon.

    Hi DebNC,

I used to post here a lot but now visit and read. I am sorry for your recent fright. Of course the advise most would give is to go to your breast surgeon and be examined. She or he mostlikely will recommend it be excised.

Since you have implants, the trick will be to stay above them, but our surgeons are good people and will lend their advise on that.

As you say, lots of things can cause little marks on our skin: insect bites, plugged pores, rashes from viruses. You've done very well with your DCIS. Hopefully this is just a little bump in the road.

    My best to you,

    Tender

Deb, Perhaps there was no response because no one had any experience or information to offer. None of us are doctors, as far as I know. If you haven't heard from your doc or are not comfortable with his explanation, seek another opinion. Best of luck, Caryn

Hey Deb, good to see you.... but then again, not really, considering why you are here.  Sorry that no one has responded to your post.  I don't spend much time on the board these days and often just pop in to check my PMs or to check on a couple of threads where I have participated.  I didn't see your post earlier.

It's not very likely that the headaches and your being tired have anything to do with the red nodule on your mastectomy scar.  As for the nodule itself,  I don't know what it might be.  Certainly recurrence is a possibility but it also could be something unrelated to your previous diagnosis. Small red spots on the skin are quite common (especially as we age!) and it could be something totally harmless that just happened to develop on the scar line.  Let's hope so!

Have you heard from your doctor yet?

(((Hugs))) to you and so sorry for the slow response.  A lot of us who used to scan the boards regularly have left and it seems that most of the women who post these days stick to the particular forum that is closest to their diagnosis or interests.

I think once one of us has had breast cancer andy bump, pimple, dot, or whatever that appears differennt than our normal skin concerns us.  And we do need to be viligant.

At least first make an appointment with your GP, who could at least do a biopsy which, then you could have the pathology report back in three days.  No doctor is going to make a diagnois over the phone, that is if you can get them on it!

I get headaches and really tired feeling when I am stressed out about my 'after bc' health status -

    Good luck!

I noticed you mentioned sinus headaches. I was just diagnosed with DCIS and have had sinus headaches off and on for about a year. seems to happen around my cycle. I guess Im in a mode of "I wonder if this and this...is linked to it" stage.
