aaahhhhh bra or genie bra

Have any of you used these ? I was talking to another bc friend today and she mentioned she uses them...and how comfy they are.
-
No, but I am glad you posted this. You beat me to the punch. They seem way more confy than traditional bra. I am kinda over traditional bras.
-
I did not want to ask to many personal questions (aka what type of form she used in them or not)
But they do like comfy and not to pricey !!!
-
If your local mall has a 'sold on tv' store you may be able to see-before-you-buy. I checked them out last week. Other than not having the front closure the compression bra your PS probably has, they don't look all that different. They do look comfy but what's up with the high front? Unless you don't mind your bra hanging out, forget any low scoop or v neck tops.
Can I hijack your thread to rant about all the foamy bras on the market? WTH happened to the normal - no padding bra's? I'm big enough, I don't need 'enhancement' or shaping, my PS looked after that for me. I just want a nice natural bra with a deep V so I can show off the clevage lol. Sigh.
-
the aaa braaa is pretty comfy.. not so sexy but o well, i don't have cleavage anyway. I can stick a foamy prosthesis in and it stays put.
-
Apple that is what I wanted to know...if a foam prosthesis would stay put in it.
I am sure I can find a low cut sexy one for other outfits that are low cut ...but I no longer have clevage either...... any unless there is some magic trick I dont know about LOL - please share...
-
Apple- can I ask what size you are. I had a umx and was a 36 to 38D. Does it have good support??
-
I use the Genie bra and I love it, no seams super comfy. I usually wear a large shirt, 38D bra and I wear a large Genie bra. I got mine,at Boscov's a local dept. store and was able to get 2 for 19.99, to try them. I will be getting more.
-
Here's my review: I ran out and got a couple of Genie bras after reading this thread. I'm 5 ft. 10 in. and have a 38-in. bust. I bought an Extra Large/1X, and it's a bit snug on me, though it looks nice with foam foobs and it stays more or less in place (I've had to give it a few tugs). I hate constriction, so I'm ordering 2X to see if that's more comfortable and perhaps a bit longer. If I can get the sizing right, this bra, which is marketed to women with big boobs, may be just right for a boobless woman!
-
Thanks so much for the review - I am going to check this out
Boobless women Rule !!!!
-
I just wanted to pass along that I got a genie bra and I love it...I remove the "cups
they have and put my foam ones in and they work fine.Very comfy
They will do untill I heal up and get fitted for something else.
AND I did find a good shop near by that does just that.
Sometimes things go right for a change.

Can you pull the genie bra on like a swimsuit? I am still unable to raise my arm too high so I had ignored this bra because it doesn't open in the front. But...if it can be pulled up, then I might go with it. At the moment, nothing is comfortable because it is all constricting over my snb. The genie looks like it might be low enough on the side to bypass that area.
Any ideas? Will I be able to put this one on?
Thanks for any and all thoughts...:)

I found the genie bra at Bed Bath and Beyond, comes two per package (nude and black) for $19.99. I just checked on the pull-it-up question and yes, quite easily I can pull it up like a swimsuit. Can remove the foam cups, and without them, the bra still does a nice job of supporting the girls.
My only complaint is that although the band is knit into the whole bra, and it's about an inch and a half wide, I find it's pretty snug. I tried a large and an extra large--both work fine for cup size and support. My regular bra size is 38 B, so the large should have been fine.
And it is, except I'm experiencing midriff swelling that's intermittent (maybe truncal LE--having that checked out next week)--and the swelling is much less likely if I wear a camisole with cups knit in--no bra band. The genie bra band, despite being soft and wide, is still snug enough to prompt the swelling. If that's not an issue for you, this bra might work well for you during recon healing.
-
I cant wear mine 8 hours yet, but for most of the day it is fine. I also use foam foobs in mine for the time being
-
Thank you, ladies, for the responses.
First, Tappy, it is a relief to me to hear that you cannot wear a bra for 8 hours yet. I am sorry you cannot, but it is a relief because I thought I should be able to do that by now and was becoming very frustrated. I need to go back to work very soon and will have to find a solution (I had a umx without recon...I need support for my lone breast), but at least your experience lets me know that I am not just being a wimp... Thank you.
Carol, thank you for going and trying yours on-for going the extra mile. It is good to know I will be able to do that. I don't think I am experiencing swelling at the chest. (Oddly enough, I have been experiencing some intermittent swelling at the hips and waist, but I haven't found anywhere that this could be LE related to breast surgery and none of the doctors know why). But, I am having issues with the drain sites. They (along with the snb site) are more sore than the umx site, itself. So the band may be an issue. If I buy the genie, I will go larger on your advice, so thank you tons. Also, I will give B, B and Beyond a shot (along with Kohl's that, online, advertises the same price).
Thank you both. Your are both very helpful!
-
My two cents, for they're worth: Go way, way up in size. I'm a 38A, and a 2X (extra extra large) is about right for me--though if there were a 3x, I'd probably be happier!
-
Thanks, nagem. I wear a 34 or 36D, but I wear a medium shirt. I was thinking of getting a large in the genie bra. You think I need to go up to an extra large? I will look at them carefully in the store. Hopefully, I will be able to take them out of the package and get a good look at them. Thank you for your input. I will definitely take a closer look because of it...:)
-
yes go way up in size - that helps and use foam padding/foob if you need it. it will cushion your scars or TES.. I suspect that I will wear ti to work and go and pull it off in the after noon.
when it gets uncomfy. I have even put a little cushion on my left side which seems to pull and be sensative. It is not thebest...but it is the best I have found so far untill I heal up to wear something else.
For what it is worth....I am kinda liking being flat. I normally wear my softie cami underneath and just a shirt on top. I love those softie camis...i stopped putting in the foobs because I could never get them straight.
It is what it is...I am flat now...I think I am growing to accept it.
-
Tappy... I understand the flat thing. I am so glad you are gaining comfort with it/acceptance of it. If I'd had a bmx I might be one to go flat...but I had a umx and am a D cup... Also, I am a teacher...of teenagers... I don't think I can do flat on one side... I have been going flat on one side on my outings... to doctors offices and stores and have been very comfortable with it, but not to work. Also, I need support for the remaining side...
And thank you for the confirmation that I should go way up...I will remember that when I am indecisive about the size in the store.

I feel like a lightbulb turned on for me, I never ever considered going way up in size on these bras, what a wonderful idea!!
Hugs, denise
-
The larger sizes make them fit more like a snug undershirt and less like a vise ...
-
I bought the Genie Bra first in a size large, my normal band size is 36. I then bought the XL which feels much better and still doesn't ride up. I go flat most of the time but it's nice having an option when I want/need it that is comfortable. Now you've got me wondering what the 2X would feel like.
-
I wanted to let you all know what happened. According to the box, I should wear a medium genie bra. The XL/1X fits really well...It is not painful to wear, I can put it on by stepping into it, I can put the lightweight foam in the pocket (with a little cramming and persuasion). Thank you all for your feedback and advice. I will be able to wear this one to work all day, I think (though with the foob, it is a little tender on the chest...I may have to reduce the size of the foob a bit.
Thank you all, again...

I knit my foobs a la British women-soft yarn and filled with polyfiber for washing machine. Soft against scars if you use baby yarn. Can fill a lot or not so much. Used small velcro pieces in old Vanity Fair underwires, 40 D, to keep foobs from riding up. Comfortable for all day. I'm two years past surgery for dmx. Pattern for knitting foobs can be found on internet search-'knit prosthesis' and is free. Doesn't take more than an afternoon or an evening to produce the whole thing while watching t.v. The tee shirt pockets would undoubtedly work well also. I'm still 'fussing' with the amount of filling to put in, and have done several variations-six pairs of foobs. Total cost, under $10.00. If you don't knit, perhaps you have a friend or mother who does-or it's a good time to learn!
Good luck to all.

like we know how to knit..
wish i did. I;ve tried on both bras and find them similar.. i think i will buy one. I borrowed my 12 yr. old daughter's (yes she is developing early.. she's already in a B cup) and still tiny everywhere else (size 12 pants). I bought a poofy boob shape at a garage sale and it actually is the perfect size. I wish i knew where she had gotten it... and it stays in place beautifully without securement.

Just got back from BB&B and wanted the genie bra in a 2X since every source says they run a little small. My store's largest sixe was the XL/1X, which goes up to a size 14 blouse I think. I don't consider that xtra large or 1x. Has anyone found the 2x' s or will I have to order online and pay shipping................UGH!
-
I found 2 X at BBB - lots of them. Nude and Black in the same package. Being in a hurry to get dressed the next day, I wore the nude one and thought it had a bit too much padding, but I would go with it. When I took it off, I realized the pads or liners were removable.... Old age, chemo brain, whatever... And I am a 38 D, got the 2X and it is very comfortable for me.
-
I havent tried the Genie Bra or AAAh bra. Is there a difference in size? Ladies First, that supplies the softies has a soft silhouette bra. Has anybdy tried it?The Active Teee also looks comfy and both have inner pockets for prothesis or foobs. If you are flat, how do you measure your size for fitting?
-
I tried on a Genie Bra which was in the "As Seen On TV" section of a SuperTarget. I am a large 36 or small size 38 in bras and I found the Large to be a medieval torture device. Wayyyyyy too tight around and I found the straps wayyy too short which meant they dug into my shoulders and the bra rides right up if you raise your arms. I have a BMX. My avatar is a current pic. They didn't have an X-Large at that store. I saw a local Walgreens that carried both the Genie and the Ahhh Bras though in extremely limited sizes and no way to try them on. The Genie has a built in pocket though I think the opening would likely have to be enlarged to accomodate prosthesis. The Ahhh bra does not have the pocket. The Ahhh bra impressed me as rather high in the front so that it will likely show like a cami if you wear any kind of v-necks.

Okay after 19 months of going flat, I bought a pair of lightweight silicone size 3 in order to take advantage of already having met my deductible this year. The store had absolutely nothing I liked in mastectomy bras. I have some totally flat Bally Total Fitness super soft cotton, 3 to a package (assorted colors) for $10-$12 at Sam's Club. I made covers for the foobs but find there was no reason to sew them in as everything stays perfectly in place no matter what I do and being separate it is easier to switch between bras. Due to footprint size, weight, and the spaghetti straps, I think the maximum you could put in one is a lightweight silicone size 4. My goal was to be able to easily and seamlessly go back and forth from flat to foobs. The foobs will allow me a much broader wardrobe by being able to wear some darted things that would have otherwise gone concave. I am a couple of hours into my first day at work with them in a fitted darted blouse and even the one or two ladies that I specifically asked if anything looked different could not figure it out until I told them. And yet if I were to take one off, it would instantly be apparent. Mission accomplished.
At under $4 per bra, it might be a possible alternative for those with small forms.
