Mom might have met to brain

Options

My mom was just diagnosed with IDS last summer.  She had a mastectomy and 6 rounds of Taxotere and Carboplatin.  She has had 16 of 18 rounds of Heceptin.  Yesterday she had an MRI of the neck and spine for herniated disks that are giving her problems.  When she went back for the results today, she was told there was an egg sized spot on the brain above the spine.  I don't know anything more, she was too upset to talk to me.  Has anyone had something like this that turned out to be nothing?  Two months ago she had a normal bone scan and mammogram so we thought she was in the clear.  I can't believe this is happening, I'm sick and numb.

So sorry your mom is going through this - it must be very frightening for both of you.  She's so blessed to have such a loving, supportive child who is taking an active part in her treatment.  I don't have any answers but I didn't want this thread to be lost.  Hopefully someone who has had a similar experience will be along to reassure you. Your mom's cancer was DCIS and Stage 1 and given the fact that she had a clear bone scan just two months ago, let's hope and pray that after further testing it will turn out to be nothing.  Keep us posted.

Thank you jacksnana.  I'm hoping and praying it's nothing. Trying to be optimistic, but it's hard after spending the last 2 hours reading about brain mets.
