recurrence on radiation
Ladies,
I was diagnosed 9/17/10, finished chemo in 5/11, BMX and ALND 6/11 (clear margins) and started radiation in 8/11. halfway through radiation found a lump in the breast at same general location as original tumor. It wasn't there when I started radiation. Just found out the 15 mm lump is IDC returned.
Why would a tumor grow during radiation????

I'm really sorry to hear this - what did your doctor say? If a tumor is growing, then it isn't responding to the treatment - it has grown resistant. (My non-medical opinion.) Have you considered doing complementary/alternative treatments in addition to conventional? Will they have you do more chemo? The CAM treatments might help lower resistance and boost effectiveness. Keep us posted!

Hi, I dont mean to distress you but, I would also think that the tumor is resistant to the radiation. Also, I notice that you are triple negative. I was also. However, your staging has you at @ 2A. I was 3A. I was diagnosed in Dec 2010, started chem in Jan completed it in April, Mastectomy in May, completed rads in early Aug 2011.
It seems like your treatment has lasted a long time. I only had 1 month down time between chemo and mastectomy and then another month down between mastectomy and radiation. If I might be so blunt to ask why has your treatment has taken so long...you were diagnosed in Sept 2010 but just started rads in Aug 2011.

I started chemo 10/10 (AC combo). I moved when I was dine with that, si I didn't get started on Taxil until feb, finished 5/2/11. BMX 6/1/11, ALND 6/15/11. Since I didn't think I was gonna need radiation, I choose delayed DIEP. However, once radiation was recommended, then I needed tissue expanders. So those were placed and filled mid July to mid august, which is when I started rads. Felt the lump mid sept. Diagnosed with recurrence 9/23/11. I had my CT scan today and tried to do a breast MRI, but the metal in the expanders didn't let them get a good scan. So, now I'm in for lumpectomy on Wednesday followed by a bunch more rads. Hoping for more chemo, but well see what the pathology says.
