Crazy Bra Question

Options

Ok, I am new to this, so please dont take offense and humor me.

What do you do with all of your  bras ?  I have a small fortune in very nice bras of every style color etc !  some are a different size due to padding etc...(all of mine are underwire except for my sports bras)

Can you buy forms to fit in to them ?  or do they fall out or slip and look loopside ?

Is the underwire hard to handle after a double mas for tender skin ?

OR do you just send them off to bra heaven ?

    Hi Tappy,

Definitely keep all your bras for now. You may be able to wear some or all of them afterwards, either by having pockets sewn in or by using forms that are comfortable against your skin. Some women can still tolerate underwires (there are even some mastectomy bras made with underwires), others (like me) can't. But you can usually remove underwires from your bras and they'll still work.

In my case, I found that the bras I'd had before really weren't comfortable afterward. But maybe others will come along who've been able to still use their pre-surgery bras. Since it sounds as if you do like bras, you may be glad to know that there are some pretty great/sexy mastectomy bras these days. Check out About the Girl, a UK site that ships to the US. Also, you might get some ideas about what's out there from looking at the Bras and Camisoles section of my non-profit website, BreastFree.org

    Hi Tappy

Do check out Erica's website. It was there that I made my decision to not have reconstruction. You will finds lots of good information there.

I threw all of my bras away. I wanted a new start which was a bad idea because mastectomy bras are expensive lol

I think I threw all mine away too and for the same reason-I just wanted to start fresh after TYOC (the year of cancer).  Breastfree is a great site.  Check it out!  I had lots of underwire bras prior to breast cancer and have none now.

I sewed bra pockets in all of my bras.  Mastectomy bras straps were hitting my port and are uncomfortable.  My pre MX bra straps are on the other side of the port and are comfortable. I had just replaced all of my bras a month before diagnosis so I wasn't going to get rid of them.  Glad I didn't.

If you don't want to keep them, donate them to your local abused women shelter.

I donated my bras to our local abused women shelter through the lingerie store, SOMA. I work there now and while it is not widely pubicized, except when we are actively collecting them, we still take the bras in and will keep them until corporate collects again for the shelter which is usually around the holidays.

The other suggestions above are also good. You may be able to wear some of them. I got rid of mine and then had my implants replaced with larger ones and probably could have used several of them, but getting new is nice.
