So glad you're feeling better about the Tykerb situation, Survivor. I have a feeling that getting Herceptin on top of it might actually turn out to be a blessing.
I'm also feeling very relieved right now after just getting the results of the CA27-29 I had on Monday. I've been having some nagging pain in my tailbone area for 3 days (started the day after I saw my onc), so I was just a little worried about the CA27-29. But it was just fine, and the pain is probably just from getting back into my longer walks.
So glad to see that you're getting into walking, Ellie. Hopefully, that initial aching you're having will go away soon. And 2 to 4 miles is excellent!!!
Welcome, momof3! It sounds like you're doing amazing for being just 4 mos. post surgery.
Kari, what's with this stupid heat again? 106 here the past few days. Deanna
-
Deanna, I know how you feel, every back pain has that nagging feeling. Ugh. Always good when they just go away!
Survivor, YAY for all that exercise!
I did not see Joy, she could not make it. We missed you Joy!
45 on the elliptical tonight, LOTS of sweat!
Somebody asked me something else, but it's on the page prior. Have to go check!!!Ellie! Good for you pushing past the first 10 minutes of pain! And my brother's Bday is Sept 30th!
OH and at my ONC check, (did I tell you all this) I get to go to every 6 months after the 4 year mark which is less than a year away now. Also, no more Zometa infusions! I had 5 (every 6 months) so she said take a break. I brought this up based on what my GYN mentioned, you take it too much, bones get brittle, and can break. ugh! Glad to be off it for now at least. NO MORE INFUSTIONS of Zometa! Whoot!
-
Survivor, that's good news about the Herceptin! We want everything in our arsenal don't we?!
Deanna, so relieved your results were FINE! I absolutely understand about 'nagging pain' and wondering...'uh oh - what if' ME NO LIKE!! and the heat has been miserable, but relief is on the way they say. A cold front is headed in cooling us down by 20 degrees. Wonder if it will reach the desert areas. My sister moved to Vegas last October and her stupid DH asked her for a divorce less than 2 months after that. She finally got a job 6 weeks ago and moved out over Labor Day weekend and is loving life now, has a support group of friends and sounds so happy. She will stay in Henderson, I believe close to Diane, that used to post here (she's on FB), but she's handled the heat ok, she likes when it doesn't get over 100, LOL!
Spring, that's great, so next year you will be able to see onc every 6 months. Wonder if that will be the same for me. YES about the Zometa, same for Fosamax, Boniva, and all those other bone drugs. A lady in my office was on Fosamax and broke both her femurs 2 years ago from being on it. My onc and I were discussing putting me on Fosamax soon, but she would only put me on it for one year she said. We will discuss again at my Dec. appt. So happy you are done with the infusions WOOHOO!!!!!!!!
Went to a work party after work yesterday and ate food I usually don't. UGH-the bloating and headache was not fun. Started the day off right though, so far so good (haha only 10:30 a.m. here)
-
Too wet and rainy to cycle today, back on that elliptical beast! I have to say, I do get a good work out.
TGIF everyone!
-
It is raining here too. But I was so determined to go to the gym that even rain couldn't stop me. 20 minutes bike riding each way + 20 minutes elliptical + 15 minutes of core training class (mostly crunches). I am done for the day. Right now, I am eating garlicy red snapper with a cilantro/avocado salad. Have a nice weekend and great workouts Ladies!
Deanna + Kari : I also think that getting Herceptin is a blessing, and I am truly grateful for getting it.
Thank you all for giving me support!
-
Just a quick stop in. I've been back on track in working out this last week after a couple of so so weeks. I can feel myself getting emotional already, DS gets married a week from today, and I love my Daughter to be.
-
Congrats KMMD!!
Survivorwoman, you are rockin' it!
I didn't get on the elliptical last night, so today is a must!!
-
Great workouts this week, strength training alternating with aerobics. Feels good to be back in the groove.
Thanks Spring. so looking forward to this
-
Hey everyone - sorry i didn't make it to the yoga potluck. A friend had to go to UNC-CH ONC and wanted me to take him. Couldn't make that trip in two days. He starts chemo and radiation next week and then surgery in 8 weeks.
Glad to see everyone doing something. Rain here for 2 days and I'm tired of it already. But still getting out walking in the rain, no singing!! Dd loves playing in the puddles. The humidity is high so I had to turn the ac back on.
Everyone one a great week. Yoga on Wednesday for me.
-
Sounds like everyone is Rocking It as Springie said! WOOHOO!!
DH and I went on a 2 mile walk then drove to the trail system and did 6.5 miles, lots of hills which kicked my BOOTY! We were both drenched with sweat, ta ta toxins!!
Today, stretches this morning, walk at lunch, yoga tonight - getting an eye exam at 4:30, hope the dilation doesn't bother me too much!
-
Kari, that hike sounds fantastic! YaY for sweatin' out those toxins! And love the idea of walkin' in the rain, Joy! That's something we rarely get to do here, 'cause just like the song says, "...it never rains in Southern California; it pours!"
Did 9763 steps this a.m. And do you believe, it was actually cool when I left at 7:30! What a surprise!
Kate, I'm thrilled to hear about your son's upcoming wedding. And so happy you love your DIL-to-be! That's wonderful! I hope you'll share some pictures with us! (((Hugs))) to all ~ Deanna
-
Kate, I also meant to comment on the upcoming wedding and that you're happy with your DS's choice! Fabulous!!
I forgot to mention that the 6.5 miles were on our new bikes! oops LOL!!
-
Deanna, you are the step queen!!
Kari is riding bikes!! YAY!!! Survivorwoman, we've converted another one! And I must say, I saw Kari on FB with her bike helmet and shades, and she was rockin' it!
I am in NJ taking care of Dad while my brother and wife are away. We saw Mom today in the home, and brought up some hymns on YouTube (with my phone!) and we all sang along. It was a good visit! Mom was so sick last time I was here, but she was totally with it today. I am so glad I saw her all better. I'll see her each day this week. We go home Saturday.
No exercise for me. I am going to have to make up for it when I get home!
Joy, next time, you can sleep at my house if you like -- I assumed someone had offered and you were staying over. It's not picture perfect, but it would work! Keep this in mind.
-
Thanks Deanna and Kari. Not only do I love DIL to be, but, met her mother and we hit it off and have become friends.
I'm getting so excited. Packing etc today. Packing my 3lb weights, my yoga and pilates DVD's, and my bands. Plus, the fitness center next door to where we are staying has a walking/jogging trail. DH and I are set for maintaining exercising while away!
-
Good for you, Kate! So glad you're so happy! Have a wonderful trip & special day!
Glad you're spending time with your parents, Spring. And glad your Mom is feeling better and enjoyed singing hymns with you. I've observed that phenomenon in the past -- someone surprisingly remembering words to hymns when what seems like much more obvious information is no longer there. It must have to do with learning them at a very young age, and/or the combination of the words with the music. But it can certainly be heart warming!
9004 steps for me today. I want to get back up to 10,000 and 12,000, but it just got too hot while I was out there today. Oh, and I just posted a photo on FB of an amusing truck I passed while walking yesterday. I hadn't seen it around before, and it made me laugh! Deanna
-
Spring, you CRACK me up
Family time is special, glad you are there with your mom, especially while she's having 'with it' good days!! You will make up for your lack of exercise next week, no worries.
Kate, you are really dedicated and put me to shame...look at you packing your exercise gear!! WOW! WOOHOO and your DH is on board too. That's so wonderful that you hit it off with your soon to be DIL's mom, lucky you!
Deanna, I enjoyed your pic on FB this morning of that truck. You are our stepping queen, Queen Deanna!!
So there was a big mix up with yoga last night (parking lot being redone, moved class)...anyhoo...I ended up attending a "Kickass Core" class, that was the name! I did some things I'd never done before, thank goodness I was only in the class for 30 min LOL! I bought a 'deal' for a month of unlimited yoga across town and will start that next week! WOOHOO!
-
Kickass Core!!! Holy Cow, Kari!! I am so impressed you tried it out even!!! And survived to talk about it too!!
Deanna, I saw the pic of the truck you saw on your walk! Conservative Gardener??? ha! I guess when a perosn is walking 10,000 steps they get to see a lot!
Kate, good good good for you girl!
Saw Mom again today and we had a good visit. She is more with it so doesn't want us to leave, so that is a little sad. But overall, it was good. Today we first looked at pics (I brought my mac and showed her lots of pics, she was most intersted in ones from almost 4 years ago. Interesting!) We then sang some too. I found some sheet music for an old song she used to solo "I'll walk with God" and she remembered it! I think music in the brain is different than a lot of other things.
-
Awww! Spring - so sweet that you have the chance to spend time with your parents. I miss my mom so much that I am heart broken a lot of times. My mom is in Hungary and is not able to travel any more. She lives with her sister. I have not seen them in about 4 years. Now, with more treatment on the way for me I don't know when I will have the chance to travel again. I am trying to save money so that I can move out.
Tomorrow is my muga scan then on Thursday I start Herceptin.
I had a great work out on Monday: did a body conditioning class. And today I did zumba. It was fun, only that the class was very crowded. Still, great workout.
-
You girls are rocking it, for sure! I've been keeping on the walking kick - 5 X last week! My weight is pretty stable and the walks make me feel so much better. My oldest boy is giving me fits - had to move him out of his girlfriend's apt. Monday - I was supposed to have Friday off but now I have to work. The things we do for our kids! But, I'm glad I was able to help him - I wish I was crazy about his choice but I think they are the equivalent of fire and gasoline! Have a great day everyone! Keep on keeping on!!!!
-
Survivor, you know those links you posted (I think last week), well I attempted to do them last night and OMG, that was hard! I was sweating a lot, plus it was hot in my house already (been hot here this week), but I am sore today!!! I will try and attempt these again, but not too soon LOL!
I haven't gotten in any walks this week. Doing other things at lunch. Supposed to cool off soon, be Fall like, YAY!
Survivor, thinking of you today as you started Herceptin, hope its kind to you. Did they give you your EF (ejection fraction) score from your MUGA? Big hugs.
Spring, that's interesting about your mom and her interests of 4 years ago...wonder what that means...ENJOY her!! I miss my mom, she passed in 2005
Ellie, you're a good mom!
-
Kari -- Thank you for thinking of me. I am really glad you liked those excersizes. Did you see -towards the middle of it how the girl in the video -- who is also a trainer- is sweating? Do you know how to download those exercises and save them? I think the trainer is doing a dvd right now based on those exercises. Once he is is done that link won't be available. I don't know how to save those videos. Is there anyone among us who knows how to save videos from you tube?
What a day I had at the hospital!! Insanity! First, I had an appointment at 10 am with a new psychologist (assessment) then I dashed into the city. When I got to the hospital by noon I found out that they overlooked my onc's request for Herceptin. I almost had to wait until next week, but thankfully, there was Katie ( the best onc nurse at the hospital) who was kind enough to get the medicine from the pharmacy. So I got my first Herceptin. I didn't have a terrible reaction so far, but I am a bit hot and itching and a bit red. I think my dizziness came from not eating all day.
I hope you all are doing well. I see how I feel tomorrow, but I missed the gym today.
-
Well, I put in a 12 hour working day today...........maybe I should use a pedometer to calculate the walking miles at work???? My feet are killing me! The best part was that an hour and half of that time was spent line dancing with one of my clients! Can't count how many times I flubbed it and my feet got it all wrong but......it's all good right???
Survivor hope your herceptin goes well and causes you very little SE's. Hope tomorrow is a good day!
-
Thanks Viv. It sounds like you have a nice job. I don't know what you do, but dancing sounds great.
I had a lousy night. I had low grade fever and pain all night. I woke up with a nasty head ache. I might walk to work instead of riding the bike. I feel a bit dizzy. Wonder if I should take Companzine for nausea.
Have a great Friday Ladies!
-
Daisy, you SHOULD use a pedometer at work!!! Count those steps! You are lucky. I have a "desk" job which is a horrible thing for your body!!!
I think I gained 5 lbs this week eating my neice's bday cake!!! What is it about this place that makes me so bad?? ugh. We leave tomorrow, back to the real world! I will have to really focus on my diet and exercise for the entire month of October! I have a reunion in Nov! (Back up here again!!) I am doomed!
-
Spring, you are doomed and heading into holiday and hibernation season! yikes!
Survivor, I think the Herceptin is not agreeing with you...did you call the onc nurse? Maybe its from not eating beforehand. Make sure you have a good 'base' next time. How often will you get it? Every 3 weeks or so? Thinking of you daily and sending love your way along with positive vibes for healing.
Viv, what do you do that includes line dancing? How fun!!!!!!!!!! But not fun if your little tootsies are killing you after a long day, booooooooooo
I am still so sore from the exercises this week, from the videos and core class.
Oh....Survivor I just called our I.T. guy and he said you can go to Google and enter "You tube video grabber" download that software and it will let you grab the videos. I am going to try this over the weekend!!
All set to walk in 20 minutes (lunch hour)!! If I can move my sore butt that is!!
-
Just running through. Ya'll are a bunch of skinny minnies. I haven't seen a 2 since toddler 2. But then again I am 6'2".
Had a blind date the other day. Had a good lunch, laughing and talk. But not for me!! I'm not really looking but it was a nice afternoon.
Suppose to turn chilly this weekend. We are also having the Seafood Festival this weekend. Expecting over 200,000 tourists.
Survivor hope you are feeling better. Had yoga on Wednesday and have walked twice everyday. Can't wait for it to cool down some. 84 today. Have a great weekend. I'm working days this weekend.
-
Survivor, sorry you had a bad nite. Is there anything they can give you for SE's???? I agree that maybe part of feeling so unwell was because you had nothing to eat?? But then again, who am I??? I am notorious for skipping meals which usualyy results in feeling tired, cranky and yes dizzy. It must mess with my blood sugars when I do that! Bad Me!!! I am told breaky is most important but, I never feel hungry untill a few hours after being up and then by the time I notice it's almost noon! Anyway, hope you get some relief!
Spring......ha! Ya! I should! Anything I've ever done has always required me to be on my feet and moving! We have a get fit heathly living challenge starting at work next week and running till Dec! It's a team challenge so maybe I can gain some points that way!
Kari, I must admit I LUV my job! I work with people with developemental disabilities that require 24hr supports. The people I support are quite young ranging in age from 21-30. My job requires that we support these people to live an active healthy life style and are integrated in their community as much as possible wether it's in sports, supported employment, volunteerism or whatever they would like to do, try or achieve. so, one young lady I support loves music and dancing so her and I have begun looking for opportunities for her and line dancing was what we chose to try! I have also taken her swimming over the summer months, anything goes as long as she is enjoying it! Besides getting to do all these wonderful things I also work as an on call florist when weddings and other floral arrangements need to meet a deadline and my cohort gets to busy to tackle it all.
Have a great weekend ladies! I am off to Smithfalls Ont this weekend to have a sisters weekend with my two younger sisters!
-
Just a quick fly by guys. I think it will be a recuperation day for me. My muscles are so sore, because I danced my feet off at DS's wedding last night. We had an absolute blast. DD's (I can now say that!) family was wonderful to meet. A good time was had by all
-
Back home!! Yay. Eating veggies, eating right, and cycled for an hour! Back on track. Tomorrow will be elliptical or cycling, then Tues and Weds will be Yoga.
Hope you are all well!
Joy, well!! You tried! Good you had a date. what the heck! You can't win if you don't play!
-
I almost didn't exercise today. So cold! Just wanted to curl up on the sofa. But then, ABC news had a piece on how exercise helps prevent cancer, by up to 50%! They think its burning up excess estrogen and insulin, both feed cancer.
Needless to say, after seeing that, I did the elliptical for 45 minutes!
Please help me remember this! A lot of us have done toxic treatments to reduce our risk. Exercise is so good for us!
