full body scan bc don't thinks Hodgkins??? wtf!
so, I went into the appt concerned bc of the hip pain.
right off the bat dr says, tumor markers are fine. okay.
but immediately starts in about my low white count. never bounced back since chemo...
checks lymph nodes in chest etc. fine.
I say, you know, I think that I have swelling in groin, mind if I take off my pants for you?
he immediately gets upset over this, not the idea of seeing my lovely pink panties, but the lymph node he finds. He says I want to see you next month.
I mention that the swollen lymph node is on the same side as my painful hip.
He counters with I wnat you to be scanned within 5 days. ![]()
I said breast cancer? He said he suspects (his word suspects) hodgkins.
holy shit. did I grow up next to three mile island? chernobyl? WTF!!!!

just scheduled double cat scans for tomorrow 1145am.

-
im sorry to hear this ringosmommy, hopefully you will have definite answers soon. hugs.
-
Oh, Lord, Cori!
Well, it can't be that - I simply will NOT allow it.
Love you, and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, now and every moment until you get the B-9 results.

CORI!!!
OMG! Breathe girl!
I think you are OK. There has to be at least 10 different explainations for this.
My (non-cancer, but strange medical shit) best friend had lived with symptoms of and threat of lymphoma for 2 years. 2 years. Scan after scan after blood test after scan. new symptom, new change, swollen lymph nodes like crazy. She finally got a dx of rhumeatoid (sp?) arthritis.
I am thinking this is some dumb thing too with you too! Glad you are getting checked though.
Wish I could be there to hold your kale smoothie while you are in the scanner.
-
(((Cori)))
I am so sorry you have to even think about this. I can't wait to see your post in a couple days telling us it is not serious. In the meantime, as Patty said, breathe and we are here to hold your hand. Love you!
-
thank you guys. Angie just reminded me that I got stung by a wasp on my ass last thursday. You would think I would remember since it's still red and swollen and itchy. damn thing flew down and stung my butt totally unprovoked!! hopefully the groin swelling is that.
I just can't remember when it started. the hip pain started a few months ago. dan has told me he believes it some fancy name for a running thing. I don't know.
I believe dr. bayer was very concerned about my wonky white counts.
he didn't spot any swelling in my abdomen. but lately, 6 weeks or so, I have been saying that I feel fat. like puffy and bloated. visually it's not there, so I chalked it up to mental body issues.

Well, your DIL should know.
Keep talking, we will keep you off the bridge
-
Ooh, i like the way angie thinks! The sting could totally be what caused the swollen nodes.
I hate hate hate hate that you have to go through the scan. My offer to drive there still stands. As does the fct we will be celebrating in Philly the awesomeness that is you healthy.
-
Cori, I think your doctor is scan happy and you are totally fine. What were your WBCs? FWIW, my WBCs are 2.7 (normal 4.5 - 11) and my neutrophils are 1.2 (normal 1.8-7.7). I'm three years post chemo, and my onc is not concerned.
I've given up them ever returning to normal.
Relax, everything will be fine.
-
Ack - I agree, just being cautious - there has to be something else causing these issues. Thinking of you tomorrow. When will you get results? Hugs to you, Cori.
-
I'm so sorry you're having this scare. Your node could be swollen for so many other reasons. Sending lots of love to you.
-
Oh wow...hope he's totally off base and just being cautious! Keep us updated.
-
Thank you everyone!
I hope I'm not being naive, but I don't don't see hogkins here. I read all the symtpoms, and I don't really fit the bill.
I am more worried about the hip pain, but with the tumor markers fine, I'm not panicked.
I think I was just blown away by the whole thing. I was like a deer in the headlights. and I think added to it, that I know two people in my area that are in my age range that were both recently dx with hodgkins. but honestly, overall, I'm holding it together bc I don't buy it.
only bc I was reminded about the nuclear sting.
I actually made dh look at it yesterday and you know that nasty ass wasp stung me three different times! there are three little welts and red marks within the giant swollen area that is my right buttock. here's hoping that is the cause of the node.
ratbait-I totally forgot your counts!! I remember you telling me that quite a few times before. does your onc have any theory on it? my onc said that he's never seen it being caused by veganism, but he has seen it caused by food allergies. I mentioned that I am a sudafed junkie but more bc of outside stuff. we talked about my recurrent cyst in my sinus as maybe causing it. The only thing is, I believe there IS a cause. I don't know what it is, and it might be something like allergies but there is something that is causing it.
Melinda-You are so sweet. I told Dan you offered to come up and he was totally blown away. We will celebrate with whoopie pies next week.
Ironically, dan had just started thinking about doing something for my birthday when this popped up Now the last time he was planning something for my birthday was a surprise 40th bday party that he scrapped bc I ended up with my first round of chemo on my bday. I told him to lay off the birthday plans, clearly it doesn't agree with me.

thinking of you this morning Cori.
-
Dang - I missed a couple of days on here and and missed your post. I hate you are having to endure a scan. I can't wait to hear the clean results - damn wasp!
-
I just posted a link to this thread on the YSC FB page. I hope you do not mind but I am sure there are some folks over there that would want to know that you are getting a scan...
-
Jennifer-I don't mind thank you. I am off facebook so I appreciate it.
well, the scan was uneventful except the usual iv bullshit. not their fault, my bad veins.
tech gave up nothing, but I don't think she knew anything to give up.
I am working on getting results. my mom's best friends daughter and her mil work at the hospital so they are watching for the report. I also threw in my usual decoy made up clinic. They fall for that one about 50% of the time. other option...I had the results sent to my rads onc, and I know someone going to him tomorrow for a pre brain rad work up. I am going to ask her to see if he got them and see if he will fax them to me or give her a copy. We are very laid back that way, hippa be damned.
I know my onc wont tell me the results before tuesday so I'm on my own here.....if nothing else, I will amuse myself for a few days trying to get the results out of them. I appreciate all the hugs. really trying to chill out.
cori
-
Glad it is done and you are scheming a way to get your results.
-
Ha- we could start an Oceans 11 style break-in plan if all of these other schemes do not come through by this time tomorrow. I am in!
-
I have a question... if your lymph nodes are active because of the "damn wasp" would they show up as hot spots on the scan? So even if the scan shows something could it still just be your nodes natural response to fighting off the poison?
-
Sending love and b9 vibes!
-
Oh, Cori, so sorry to hear about this. My sister was just mis-diagnosed with leukemia - it turned out to be mono. Crazy couple of days getting THAT clarified, though. My point is, there are all kinds of things that can cause strange symptoms and I think our doctors jump to cancer because...well, we had cancer. But I don't think you have Hodgkins. Keep us posted!
-
looking forward to good results, cori!!
-
Cori~ It has to be from the damn wasp. Mean SOB's.....
-
sending b9 thoughts your way cori..xoxo
-
thanks everyone!
tasha says to me, why don't you just call your onc and ask for the results? ah, I could do that...but then I would probably get pissed when they won't give them to me on the phone.
so, i decided that is a new piece of advice I will give people. find out what your dr's policies are involving releasing test results. don't go there if you dont like the policy...
cori
-
that is actually a really good piece of advice cori- inscanity can be the make or break it of a dr for me!
I'm hoping one of your strings works and you can pull it and not have to wait the weekend. By Friday we can be doing quinoa shots to celebrate during teledrinking. -
Thinking of you this evening. I've decided your onc should be fired. One, he is irresponsible. My doc would never scare the crap out of a person like that. Second, he only looks for cancer when he should be thinking and asking regular questions. And three, he is scan happy.
When my hip hurt, my onc told me flat out that he never had seen mets present that way initially. I was in so much pain I couldn't sit down. Most likely, the pain is due to lack of estrogen. Arimidex does that to people.
I've given up thinking about the white counts. I think I was over neupogened. Anyway, my onc doesn't worry so I don't either as long as I don't get eick, I'm fine. And so are you. -
ah yes everyone, you now know i am always thinking about cori's ass.
cori you know i think the nodes are from the asshole wasp who really really liked you (seriously, 3 stings? wtf?). what are your white counts?
also i think you are exacerbating the hip injury by running. you need to take a break from it. that's the only thing that works, i had a knee issue and had to do that too. sucks, but that's what the body needs.
maybe it will make you feel better to try to research anything you can do to get your white counts up nutritionally - a good distraction.
also dan need stop stepping on our turf because we have taken over your bday celebrating by taking you out of the state. sorry, dan.
love you

Cori-just seeing this now. Sending lots of love and quinoa! I'm hoping for just a running thing. My daughter ran cross country and we had to see a sports med doc for her wonky hip. I'm trying to remember the diagnosis-crazy word, sounded like a Star Wars character. I'm sure it'll come to my addled brain soon.
Lots of love and keep the wasps away from your ass.
