32% is what I figure my risk of recurrence is wihtout tamoxifen.

I had two oncotype tests, for two different tumors and combing those two scores I believe my recurrence risk is slightly less than 16%.  That assumes 5 years of tamoxifen.   If I want to figure out what my recurrence risk would be without tamoxifen this is the formula I would use:

Where X = your risk of recurrence and assuming tamoxifen reduces your risk by 50%.  The 16% is my risk or recurrence.

    X - X (.50) = 16%

Solving for X gives you 32%, my risk of recurrence without tamoxifen.

I'm not seeing your logic, but that's okay. I hope you didn't ADD the scores, but AVERAGED them. The 50% would be added/subtracted from the risk factor.

I didn't add the scores.  I used a formula (supplied by my friend who is a professor of applied math) that you can use to figure out the chance likely out come that either of  two independent events occure  In this case, the independent events were the chance that either tumor would occur.

You can't average the scores - what the formula does is factor out the chance that both independent events would happen,, ie both tumors would reoccur.   I wanted to know the chance that either would reoccur.

    Hi Barbe

I was just reading through this thread.  I hope your biopsy comes out okay.

Thanks catbill, I have been on the phone all morning and just actually talked to the 'Biopsy' department of the lab at the hospital. She confirmed the report is ready and she is faxing it to my doctor right now. Phew!
