8 weeks of Radiotherapy

Options

Hello!

I'm due to start radiotherapy on the 30th of Sep. after a successful surgery (lumpectomy) where my nodes (five) were all clear. The radiologist wants to set me up for 8 weeks of daily rads (Mon-Fri), onlyto the breast. I've already had chemo (Jan-July).

Has anyone else gone through 8 weeks of radiations? Isn't that very long? I saw 5 weeks are standard, and I am 'only' stage 1, grade 2. My young age apparently has something to do with it (diagnosed just before my 30th b-day).

Does anyone know/have links or studies that show by how much radiation minimizes the recurrence risk?

Thank you!

/Carola

I can't answer many of your questions about recurrence; but I can share my experience with internal radiation (brachytherapy). I lives in Indianapolis, Indiana USA and had the SAVI device for my treatment. You can google and find their website. I received two treatments a day for 5 days and I was done. One at 8:30am and the other at 2:30pm. No pain from the implant, no pain during treatment and no pain during removal. I am so glad I was able to qualify for this instead of weeks of external radiation.
