Mastectomy during pregnancy
Has anyone went through it?

Hello,
I have not gone through it, but I did once have a lengthy operation late in a pregnancy (almost 8 months along) and everything went fine with no complications or lasting effects to the baby. He is 22 now, so it must have been ok!
Hopefully this will bump up your post and someone with some experience will chime in soon. I presume they can't wait until after delivery?
Hang in there
((Hugs))

I will be going through this in about a month, I just got diagnosed yesterday, I will be having a mastectomy during my pregnancy, they said there is no problem with it, you just will have to wait for recontructive surgery after the baby is born. Have you had your surgery yet?
-
Hopingforthe best, I'm praying that everything goes smoothly for you and your baby! When are you due?
-
I had the mastectomy and started chemo while pregnant. How are you?
-
Medi - did you have your baby?
Hoping, I posted this on your other thread, but I had also had surgery -- a lumpectomy -- and chemo while pregnant.
I think my surgeon tended to like the idea of doing a lumpectomy during pregnancy, and then the mastectomy with immediate reconstruction after the baby is born. But I think both ways are totally fine.
I ended up just staying with my lumpectomy and doing radiation after the baby was born.
My baby was born perfectly healthy and, if anything, has been hitting milestones early for her age. She's six months old now and happy as a clam.

Hi there Im due in April. My surgery is on Wednesday so nervous. I wish I could not even go, but then I guess I would never get rid of it. I m just so sad about it.

I was induced at 36 weeks (diagnosed April 29th, baby May 19th), had sentinal node biopsy a week later and then started chemo a month later...neoadjuvant (before surgery). I'm having my surgery in November BMX with DIEP reconstruction. I was under the impression that they decided this because the breast tissue was too different during pregnancy (maybe not). This might alter your reconstruction options. Ask about neoadjuvant chemo.
All the best to you and your baby. I totally understand why you might be terrified about this. I was terrified to have the baby 4 weeks early but she is doing so well. 3 months now.

medinorth- There is a young woman with the name joystars who i part of the June 2010 Mastectomy group. he was pregnant and went through surgery and everything went very well. Look for her posts or PM her- she isn't around as much here, but she is a sweet heart and I know she chacks in. Good luck to you and I am so sorry you are going through this.

Well just had my mastectomy on wed, sore and tired, but I got through it! I am now 9 weeks pregnant and feeling ok. The surgery went fine, and the next day I went and had a ultrasound to check out baby , and he/she heart was beating away! Now the next step in this big adventure, chemo !
