How did your ILC show on your MRI

Hello

Wating for the results of my biopsy that I had done today.  BS and radiologist concerned about possible ILC in left breast.   US and Mammo showed no mass , but there is a palable area on the breast appox 4-5 cm.  Have some cysts and fibroadenoma in same area as well.  No calcifications.

BIRADS a 4a.   MRI showed a slight shadow in area where palable place is with slight vascularity.  US done again today shows no mass , while nodes are slightly prominent under the arm, I do have a sinus infection and BS and first radiologist a couple of weeks couldn't feel or see any enlargement.   Radiologist today says that nodes don't look abnormal.

Question is this:  Have any of you that are currently diagnosed with ILC have an MRI that couldn't detect a mass?

Thanks in advance

I hope all your tests come out fine.

There is no way to know if it is cancer till it is on a slab and tested by pathology.

I had zero showing on ultrasound and mammograms (for nearly a decade) and my MRI lit up.

My radiologist was convinced it would be nothing because it was not spiculated, but it was cancer.  My twin sister had the EXACT same hospital, MRI machine, same side, breast, spot, light up and biopsy showed no cancer.

    Best to you!

luckypenny, I'm not sure I totally understand your question, but I had an MRI (following a bc dx of one lesion via mammo, u/s & biopsy that was both IDC & ILC) that did not show anything, but which a much larger, more sophisticated medical institution later said was too blurry to be of any value.  When they redid it, they found 2 tiny lesions that turned out to be ILC.  And when I had my surgery, a third lesion that was just 1mm and had not showed up on MRI was found.  So, in essence, yes -- it is possible, though rare, for an MRI to miss something, but it can happen -- although usually not something large enough to be termed a mass.   Deanna

    luckypenny,

I don't want to scare you, but probably will. I had a mammogram, ultrasound and a mri that showed absolutely nothing.  After a biopsy confirmed my fear, it finally could be seen on a PET Scan.  In fact, the MRI said of the cancerous breast Bi Rad 1 " there is no architectural distortion, mass, or suspect enhancement to suggest malignancy."  My good right breast was the one that showed a Bi rad of 3, but was fine.  I had a 7 cm tumor in my left.  Moral to my story, when in doubt ask for a biopsy.  I hope you get the results of your biopsy soon and sending you positive thoughts that it is negative.  If it is not, you have come the right site and now that I am almost a year out, I am beginning to see that life goes on after cancer.

Thanks for the answers.  Think I am trying to 'bargain' at this point and looking for any reason to hope this is not cancer.  There have been so many conflicting viewpoints from the 3 radiologists and my breast surgeon at this point.  First radiologist that did first us said 90% sure this isn't cancer.  2nd radiologist said nothing- follow up in 6 months.  BS said , we need MRI and biopsy, you have strong possibility of malignancy which she thought would be ILC due to size of palpable area and asymmetry.  Believes there is 70% chance of malignancy, which she changed to 50-50 after seeing MRI results

MRI shows no mass, repeat us shows no mass.  Last radiologist who did us and biopsy yesterday says he believes there is even less of a chance of malignancy.   My swollen nodes worry me the most at this point. I feel like I can handle an ILC dx if it comes ,but the ffear of it being in the nodes too is something that I am terrified of .    I can't possibly see how a sinus infection could make those slightly more prominant( but I am not a dr ).  Every little twinge scares me at this point.  The palpable area is 4-6 cm or so.

Radiologist and BS said the ILC can be so sneaky, but they thought that the MRI would clearly show the mass which it didn't -  it was a slight shadow.  THey took 2 biopsies yesterday- one at 10 oclock and one at 2 o clock.   I will know soon enough I suppose.   I am trying to believe that regardless of the results whatever happens is meant to happen.

Thanks so much for your replies and support

Hi, just noticed this thread. I posted a new thread about MRI & ILC but have had no response so far...

luckypenny- have you heard about your biopsies yet? I hope all was ok.

It is so hard waiting for results & confirmation of things. I really like to know exactly what I'm facing,

no second guessing! Hoping for the best for you & me!
