6 year cancerfreeversary!!!!
Hi Everyone!
I haven't posted for awhile, however wanted to let everyone know that I am celebrating my 6 year cancerfreeversary!!!! Also, I am getting married this June 4, 2011. My son 16 and daughter 20 are very happy for us. Plus I am getting two new step children boy 13 and girl 16. Between my fiance and myself we also have 3 dogs. It is an amazing adventure and I'm so glad to be here to live it.
I also wanted to share my story and give others hope :-) As my friend would say, take good care,

Wonderful News. One question though. What date is considered our anniversary date? The day you finish treatment or the day they remove the cancer? Just want to know what day to celebrate myself?
-
From date of removal is what my oncologist told me
-
CONGRATULATIONS Gorilla
My Oncology nurse said >The day you are DX you become a survivor<
I celebrate the DX date.
Which will be 6 years in few days.
-
congrats gorilla! and not only are you a 6-yr survivor, but you are proof that it is possible to find love after cancer, which is exciting!

Congrats and thanks for lifting my spirits. This is my first time here. I just had my surgery and found out that I am a triple negative. Can you tell me which chemos you had and for how long? I'm still figuring this out and I'm very confused. Thanks for your help (anyone else.. please let me know what worked for your).
-
Just giving some hope to my TN sisters out there. I passed my 6 years 2 months ago.
Yippe

Thanks for sharing...what a great thing to read! I too was recently dx and just had surgery last week. It is so wonderful to read about people who have had TN and no recurrence for any amount of time, but especially longer times like years... Thanks so much for those of you who have shared that!
Congratulations on your engagement too! What an uplifting post!
-
Huge congratulations, Gorilla!!!
lwarstler,
Most of us live full and happy lives. We have to work harder than others to do that, and not everyone is lucky, but you have a good chance of being just fine after treatment because TNBC does not often survive the treatment, and most of us do.
I was diagnosed in 11/08. I married my Sweetie of years last October on the beach in St. Thomas. What a beautiful day! I was much like you, except I lost 14 nodes.
PS You don't need all those nodes.

Hi everyone ...Add me to the list of 6-year bc survivors as of July 24th....The fifth year was huge and now am trying to integrate back into what life used to be...Looking back...I was never kinder or deeper than I was during those those years which I consider sort of a rebirth... In the beginning I was so sure I was a goner and was just hoping for a couple of years...I spent a great amount of time searching for bc survivors...it was the only thing that gave me hope...And now I report for all those seeking a little reassurance and of course for all the newbies...Have faith...triple negative gets a seriously bad rap....It's just not true...watch...you will see!!!!

Thank ya'll for posting five years out and more. It is so good to hear happy stories. It really gives me alot of hope. thanks again.

pennylane - I really needed to hear your words tonight. I am 6 months PFC, and trying to go on with life, but there are some days I am just immobilized with panic about recurrence. Never used to be such a fatalist. I feel like I just survived a 10-month long car wreck, and am only now realizing what hit me. Is that weird? When do you get over the feeling that every twinge means it's back and you're living on borrowed time? Sorry to be so negative, but I'm sure you remember that first year. My tumor was removed with extremely clear margins, then chemo and rads, so I think I have a pretty good chance; if only I could reassure myself of that...
-
Thank you for posting your wonderful stories. They give me so much hope for the future. I hope to be able to check in 6 years from now, but for now I have to be happy to be here one year from my diagnosis. One little step at the time.
-
Yeah!!!! Cheers!
-
Congrats all both milestones. So good to hear these stories of survival. Wish more post treatment women would post on this site.
-
These survival stories are SO encouraging! I was diagnosed in February, 2011--had six TAC chemos, then a bilateral mastectomy in July, with negative nodes. I am seeing my oncologist tomorrow for the first time since my last chemo treatment in June. I am exercising a lot and trying to eat healthy and stay positive. I have also had two of my three children get married in the last four months. This has been a year of good and bad, but the good is winning out!
-
Today will be 1 year from my DX. What a journey this year has been. When I have a bad day or having a pity party my DH tell me " you chose to live and watch our granddaughter grow up" and that really helps me feel better about myself.
