Ovarian cysts
Ok.... I had BMX in April of this year. All us good there. I have always had a problem with ovarian cysts in the past. I even had to have surgery 9 years ago . I have been having right sided and ultrasound showed a small 1.9 cm cysts (fluid). A week later I repeated the ultrasound and the cysts had grown to 2.7 cm and was a hemorragic cyst now. Still told it was nothing to worry about. Well, it's probably been close to 5 weeks now with pain, so I did another ultrasound a few days ago and it showed the cysts had shrunk to 2.1 cm and looked like it was drying up. Resolving is what the tech said. My doc us not worried. But I am driving myself crazy. Anyone have a history of ovarian cysts?

Hi pkb~
I started having difficulty with ovarian cysts approx. 1 year ago. I had so much pain with one last month that I nearly headed to the ER--- the pain was THAT bad. At any rate, ultrasound revealed that I had ruptured a large cyst (found excessive fluid in the sac.) My OB/GYN's recommendation was to start birth control pills (which is obviously something I do NOT want to do from an estrogen perspective.) Were you advised to have regular pelvic ultrasounds to monitor the situation?
I'm so glad you're doing well with your BMX. I am anxiously awaiting mine on Oct 24th.

I am dealing very well with the BMX. I have my sad days sometimes. It's hard to believe it's ME living this ... Now I'm terrified of ovarian cancer. I work at a hospital and the ultrasound tech does favors by checking on this cyst.. I just don't remember have pain for thus long with any of my other cysts.. How big was yours? Mine is relatively small compared to some, but the pain is horrible. It comes and goes. It is especially bad when I'm active. I seem to be fine when I'm resting. I did test negative for the BRCA 1 and 2 gene... Thank goodness. I keep telling myself that if if was malignant, it would be growing, not shrinking. I'm just sick of living with so much anxiety ...

I had ovarian cysts off and on for about 25 years, also had a quite large one (approx. size of a lemon) rupture. It is quite painful as the fluid irritates the abdominal cavity because it has no exit. Almost every well-woman exam I had a cyst was noted - also had fibrocystic breasts and uterine fibroids. I finally had a total hysterectomy/bilateral ooph when I was 45. My 22 year-old daughter seems to be having the same problem, she had a cyst during her last pap. Mine remained harmless - just a pain, literally.

SpecialK,
How long do you think the pain can last? It looks like my body is trying to resove this one on its own. It has shrunk and the the tech said it looks more solid as the blood is drying up. I am ready to go get the out now!!! lol...

pkb - I am assuming you are still having a menstrual cycle? Mine seemed to change with that. I also had what one ob/gyn described as Mittelschmerz - which is lower abdominal (for me right sided right where the ovary would be) pain when ovulating. Two separate problems, same feeling though. It is annoying. I felt it most when sitting down and getting back up, bending over or twisting.

Man, that is about the only topic I can comment on, on these boards. I've been having cysts on my Ovaries since I was a young teeneger. I don't think I could count on two hands how many I've had. The largest, scariest one I had was when I was in my 20's. It just wouldn't stop growing and I was pregnant at the time. It had grown to the size of a small Orange. (That one they monitored very carefully because it was so large) I ended up miss carrying my baby at just over 3 months during that period of time. They told me it had nothing to do with the Cyst, but I still question that. It was the most painful one I'd had and after I miss carried the baby, it went away. Others ruptured and caused temporary pain that made it difficult to even stand. Most of them though, just went away on their own. Out of all of those cysts, all of them were just benign cysts. Some we're painful. They can twist your ovaries which causes pain and as well, if they don't just slowly disappear and they do actually rupture, it can cause pain as well. Just like a breast lump, they watch for things that show up on Ultra Sound that may be a sign of Ovarian Cancer. Septations, Thick walls etc. The same things they look for in a Breast Cyst really.
I hope this makes you feel a bit better. It's far more common then you could ever imagine too. So many woman have them and they don't even know because a lot of times they don't cause any pain. Pain or pregnancy are the reasons they are usually found. So if your cysts is simply fluid filled, even if it's large, that would not worry the doctors so much.
Hugs!

I just read SpecialK's posts. I too had the abdominal pain when ovulating. I still do. I could always tell when it was ovulation time which made it easy to get pregnant. So I always took that as the blessing in disguise with that issue. I never had trouble conceiving either. First try both times with my daughters. I've had a hystorectomy since and they left my Ovaries. If there was any concern about all the cysts I always get, they would have just taken them out I am sure. In my research, I've learned that having cystic ovaries doesn't increase your chance of Ovarian Cancer. My pain somtimes would last a few months coming and going and the severity depended on whether it was a twisted ovary or a ruptured cyst. Hope this is all reassuring you hun!

I had ovarian cysts all the time when i was menstruating. The ones that go up and down are not worrisome. These are functional cysts--just what sometimes happens during a cycle If on a sonogram, however, they see what they call "archictecure," (i.e., it's divided into 2 or more parts) they become concerned. I had one of those and subsequently had a hysterectomy (the cyst was not functional ,but it wasn't malignant, though they didn't know that til surgery. Believe me, if the doctor sees something on the sonogram that's problematic, they immediately respond differently.

Thanks y'all... I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago, but left my ovaries. I regret that decision!! But this morning I feel really good. Of course, the mornings are ok. The pain is worse in the afternoon. I'll probably take another look at it tomorrow.. If I could only get a grip on this anxiety !!! I've never felt so crazy in my life. I feel like worry has taken over...
