Stitching the pieces together

It is hard to tell if it has been folded in half - I agree Barbe - it is an unusual size.

that quilt IS folded in 1/2 and hanging from a bar.  It is huge.  larger than a king size quilt.  I suspect an altar society made it for a priest or something like that.  It has a few religious embroidered symbols on it - as if they came from the priest robes possibly.. I had it somewhat appraised and the woman I spoke with guessed it was made in the 40s or 50s, by looking at the materials used.

I couldn't believe my brother did not want it, and I can't believe the owners of the house did not want it or did not want to donate it... it hangs there for all to enjoy and the house is 'dark' enough, sunlight wise, to not let it fade.  ... as if it was built to protect it.  I sewed a green border around it to protect the edges, altho that probably devalued it by a million percent (if you ever watch the antiques road show).  I used it on our bed occasionally when company came over.

My quilt guild gave 75 hand made quilts to the children's advocacy center last week for their ribbon cutting. Reported to the guild this week, the first quilt was given to a scared 5 or 6 year old girl but after receiving the quilt she calmed down and when she was leaving the center, she was seen skipping down the hallway holding on to 'her' quilt. Just hearing that report was like music to our ears, what we were doing was actually making a difference in the commumity one child at a time.

I am busy, the ladies group at church is planning a bazaar this November to raise money for the new fellowship hall. I am making some pocketbooks, gift card holders, microwave soupbowl koozies, and other things.  I was working on some polar fleece shrugs Thursday using a decorative stitch and my machine locked up. I cleaned the lint out of it, changed the needle and it started skipping stitches. I need to take it to the sewing machine hospital on Monday to let them fix it. The bad thing is this Thursday, my quilt guild is having a make-it-take-it night and I need a machine. My mom said I could borrow her circa 1940's Singer Featherweight that night. She doesn't trust it with just anybody, I feel priviledged. 

Sheila, make sure your needle isn't in backwards or that your feeddogs have paritally dropped. Rethread your needle and check  your tenbsion. Try all that before you take it in for service, that's what they're going to try!

Okay, I'll cry UNCLE!!! I can't fix your machine from Canada...sigh.

It's OK Barbe, I know you were just trying to help me figure out my problem before spending money to get it worked on.

This week I went to one of the lady's home from my quilt guild to show her how to sew up the zippered Bible covers that I am making. When I was talking her through sewing it up (like a box cushion), she asked me how many years did I work in the furniture factory. I replied '3 years this place, 7 years this place and 5 years the last place, I guess 15 years'. She said, no wonder you said that it was easy sewing this Bible cover. She has a collection of sewing machines from portable to large industrial machines. She made me jealous, all I have is my $100 basic portable Kenmore with 18 stitches and a Simplicity serger. Although my mom sews on an antique Singer Treadle machine at home and is perfectly happy with her treasure.
