Recurrence 2 years after lumpectomy
I am scared. I had my second annual mammogram after lumpectomy and 30 radiation sessions ending in October, 2009. Radiologist found suspicious calcifications. My biopsy is tomorrow. She is 95% sure they are malignant. My breast surgeon said there was only a 20% chance that what the radiologist saw was not scar tissue. I gave so little thought to having breast cancer that this has come as a real shock. I know that IF it is not scar tissue, there's a 50% chance that it could be invasive this time. I am trying to deal with how frightened I am, even before I know the results. I need some help here.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that! I'm a newbie here, but it doesn't surprise me at all that you're frightened. Sending you prayers right now!

Hi -- just saw your post. I PRAY that it is nothing malignant. Did you have chemo at all back in 09'?
My thoughts are with you -- I'm in the middle of chemo right now; #2 tomorrow.
Please keep us posted!
Best,
Chrys

Thanks for the responses. No, I didn't have chemo because it was DCIS. Thanks for your prayers. I'm hoping for the best, but pessimist that I am, not expecting it!

Janetweiss, I'm so sorry to hear this. Sending you HUGS and PRAYERS! So scared for you and me as this is my biggest fear, I was dx. w/ DCIS this July and the fear of it coming back to me is worse than going through the treatment now. Just wondering, what was your treatment when you started this journey? Please let us know, I will be thinking of you and praying. Please know that you are loved by your sisters here. Stay strong, we are here for you!

I am so sorry you are going through this. My prayers are with you. I am scheduled for an MRI after all my treatment and I am scared too. I hope everything will be okay with you.

Janet, I certainly hope you actually got your results good or bad on thursday and didn't have to wait through the labor day weekend. My thoughts: the radiologist was way out of line for speculating on whether there was a malignancy. Shame on her. And I know exactly what you mean about not dwellng on breast cancer that much and now being slammed by the possibility of a recurrence. Of course you are freaking out.
hope the results are benign after all Janet.
