I was diagnosed on April 4.  At the young age of 29.  I am almost done with chemo. I have 4 AC treatments and 6 out of 12 taxol treatments

I have some questions, but at the same time I don't know how to ask them, I am hoping someone will understand what I am trying to say.

I am basically triple neg. IDC sage lla grade 3.  I had no nodes involved and clean margins when I had my double mastectomy.  Does having no nodes involved and having clean margins a better chance or survival? I also carry the BRCA1 gene.. Does having this gene reduced my survival rate or higher my chances of a recurrence.  I cant really find much info on recurrence online for the type of cancer I have

No nodes is always good.  Clear margins are great.

You will find this site is likely going to be more helpful than searching around on the net.  I would repost this in the IDC forum.

I am sorry I couldn't be of more help but someone should come along soon with some info for you.

Tanya, looks like this study came out just in time to encourage you.  http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/releases/233965.php

I've read other studies coming out of M.D. Anderson's which are very encouraging for BRCA 1 and 2 carriers. You might look for their research.

Mitymuffin, thank you for posting the study. I have been feeling a bit discouraged lately, so I get how you are feeling Tanya. I must say when I went to see my genetic counselor before testing, he did tell me that being brca pos is not necessarily a bad thing, he then mentioned how brca positives tend to respond to treatment. Sure enough I came back brca 1 positive. Tanya, I was diagnosed at a much later stage and have been doing neoadjuvent chemo. My breast tumor can not be seen by pet scan or ct and my nodes have shrank by 90%. I am happy about this but I still worry what they will find at surgery. Also, i had no recurrence from my original stage 2b diagnoses 8 years ago, I wish i would have done bmx like you!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and sharing your story. I had chemo today and had a long talk with my Doc. He told me today that my cancer has an 81% chance of NOT coming back. I was relieved to hear this news. I go next week to see the gene counselor. I am a little worried as to what they are going to tell me. But baby steps are good.  I am working on my low fat diet.. But it's a little hard. I love food, but if it betters my chances for survival I am going to do whatever it takes to make it. Wishing you all the best and thank you sooooo much for reaching out to me.

My Mom was recently diagnosed  and is  stage 1 with TN. She is 83 years young. I have been going  to all the doctors appt. with her and she is schedule for surgery next week. I am asking for help in understanding how to help her deal with all of this and  has not told any of my siblings and I am struggling with the right decision. I Am honoring her request and realize it is not my story to tell. She feels like if she does not tell it will go away.  I just want to help her the best way possible with her treatments and emotions.
